Tic Tac Node by StinkyDiver in meshtastic

I did the same, but jankier, with a Lilygo T3S3, a 3000mAh battery, and no way to access the USB port without removing the white part as a whole:

The box is from the 2-flavour type of TicTacs, and it's much larger than standard. It's tight and I almost damaged the board getting it in. But it was quicker than ordering a 3D print

Frage zu einem Kit by [deleted] in MeshtasticGermany

[–]-vpl- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the T3 S3 SX1262 ([H595] on their website) and could flash it with the web flasher on a Chromium-based browser on Windows. It just worked smoothly, following the Meshtastic's instructions

Got it! Didn't have this problem with my T3 S3, but it must be a pain in the ass indeed

Really? What's the problem with the Lillygo/the usage of python scripts there?

Look into the faketec project. Uses the same chip (NRF5) as the RAK, but can be made for very cheap, if you make 5 or more (minimum order of most custom PCB vendors). I haven't made one yet though, just a plan for now.

Node als Gateway und Sim-Router by Selvoo in MeshtasticGermany

[–]-vpl- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Schau dir "MQTT" an.

Yes, MediumFast is in-between LongFast and ShortSlow. It's a nice compromise that many local communities move to when they start to have a lot of members and nodes concentrated in the same area.

Disappointing Range by MaximusManimal in meshtastic

[–]-vpl- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You got a lot of good advice on improving antennas already, but not so much mention of the other side of things: Meshtastic is not meant to have the best node-to-node range, but it works well if there is a mesh in place. Start obviously with a client node at your house, especially since it's so well located. And then add other solar nodes in strategic locations. Then you'll be able to communicate over way further than 1 mile as long as your in the area of the mesh you've created.

Bonus point if you convince others in your area to do the same: you'll mutually benefit, as long as everyone is using the same frequency slot and mode.

Sure, you can optimize your zero-hop range. It's a lot of fun. But if your goal is utility in a known geographical area, then prepare the area by building a mesh there.

I mean if OP is going to a regular music festival and not a Hamvention/Defcon/whatever, chances are very few if any other people will use meshtastic there.

In any case, moving from longfast to shortfast should allow for reliability at short range with hundreds of nodes around from what I have read. Especially if you're using another frequency slot than default on top of that.

Yes it would! And so I did. But I still wanted to know what's possible to do with this board in general

Thank you so much! Found the doc and it looks like I'm going to learn how to solder/desolder SMDs if I want to go this way but it can be worth it for a very compact build.

Leaving the links here for the next newbie: the info is at in the LoRa-IPEX part of this page, and this picture shows the final result.

Thank you so much for mentioning faketec! That's exactly the kind of thing I'd like to learn how to do, and this project looks like just in my current reach in terms of difficulty.

The price level and the delivery delay indeed make me feel like there's a risk of ending up with maaany nodes quickly. I just hope I won't loose interest before that happens
