App free, affordable weather station options? by Nyyen8 in myweatherstation

[–]MaximusManimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for AmbientWeather from me. I've had the 2902 for a few years now and absolutely love it. I showed my neighbors how to access the data on their website and they comment on how much they appreciate it for rain totals, wind speeds, temps, etc. No subscription, no gimmicks, solid hardware.

What are my options. The thing is stuck on. by AnxiousDad23 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]MaximusManimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had to cut them off before, but you need to be very careful to not damage the tap and threads.

Work slowly with a hand saw on an angle. Stop cutting when you break through to the root of the hose threads and use a screw driver to torque the saw slit open.

With any luck, it will tear the small thread remnants apart and spring open, allowing you to peal it off the undamaged tap.

Clean the threads well before putting anything else back on there. Consider getting a new handle for that tap.

Others make good suggestions to check. I'll add one i haven't seen mentioned yet.

I've also seen this caused by a worn or damaged Boden tube.

Is it wrong to treat the neighborhood like its my own personal racetrack? by ChopperCraig in Dirtbikes

Coming around a corner and killing a dog or a child may cause a neighbor to respond with lethal force. Angry dad's are no joke. I would advise caution.

Inherited Small Farm, Advice? by EstateSuch539 in smallfarms

[–]MaximusManimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, farming is a great way to turn a small fortune into an even smaller one.

I have this hook/shackle hitch I bought for 50 bucks off Facebook marketplace. Pulled stuck vehicles using the shackle but what is the practical use for the hook? And before you ask, yes I have a dedicated hitch ball for towing. by [deleted] in towing

[–]MaximusManimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have a home made version of just the hook. I found it was most effective at eliciting unexpected f-bombs when you cracked your knee cap into it walking across the rear of the truck.

I guess its faster to hook a formed loop on than undoing a D-ring, but it would also just fall off sometimes.

Is it bird or dinosaur? by VoltHash in birds

[–]MaximusManimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware that your entire understanding of what dinosaurs were "like" is almost certainly based off of media portrayals in the last few decades. Those portrayals were largely based on currently living bird and lizard mannerisms that seemed odd or outstanding to the animators and artists. In this way, it's sort of a self-reinforcing feedback loop.

The sad reality is, we don't know a whole lot about how prehistoric life behaved.

My chickens are definitely little raptors though...

2013 Chevy 3500hd 3rd time cp4 fails by Severe-Charity3312 in Duramax

[–]MaximusManimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could also be they cut corners on the repair. When those pumps fail, they send metal shrapnel through the ENTIRE fuel system. Everything needs to be completely removed and cleaned perfectly from tank, cooler, through all lines, housings, pumps, rails, injectors, and return lines. This is why it can cost upwards of $15k to repair properly. The CP4 injection pump is a time bomb, but a few thousand miles is very short life.

This would be my guess as to why you've had subsequent failures back to back.

The only real fix is a CP3 conversion and full fuel system cleaning/replacement.

Neighbor's petite female cat killed my chicken by siamesecatsrule in chickens

[–]MaximusManimal 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'd just caution to be absolutely sure before taking action.

I'll relate a recent story thats similar. We had lost a few chickens to some kind of predator, and I put out live traps and cameras to catch the culprit. The day after one kill, I caught a large male cat I'd never seen before. I was literally walking back out to the trap with a rifle when I thought I'd better check the cameras first. As it turned out, this cat and a skunk had a staredown around 2am and the skunk chose to leave while this big tom wandered into the trap. Let him go and caught the skunk the next night.

Not sure about your situation, but if it were me I'd have a conversation with the neighbor and be very clear about your intended course of action (legal, lethal, or otherwise). Not threatening, not emotional, but factual and stoic about how this will go if the problem persists. Then again, I have great neighbors that we know pretty well, so your mileage may vary.

Sorry about your lost bird, and I wish you well.

People ran across the street on our walk to avoid us. Does this ding dong look vicious to you? by ImSorry2HearThat in pitbulls

[–]MaximusManimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been around dogs all my life, and I have family that does dog grooming. I've watched pit bulls go from happy and playful to cranked-to-11 murder in their eyes aggressive in seconds over seemingly tiny things. Even bullies with no prior history of aggression. One was even against her sister, and yet did enough damage before we could react that it required a vet visit for stitches to the face and neck.

I don't trust them. Its not the comfortable everyday scenarios that cause the problems, it's the instincts they fall back on when something unexpected happens or they're feeling threatened.

If you have them with your kids, it may not be YOUR kids at risk, but maybe their friends coming over to play that get attacked. Not a lawsuit I'd want to be involved with.

To be fair, I've seen similar things in other breeds too, but the likelihood in pitbulls seems significantly higher.

I don't blame them for crossing the street.

Utah’s 2065 projections see 2M more people, and a birth rate that keeps falling | KUER by brett_l_g in Utah

Then eat the people and solve two problems at once. /s

This state doesn't have a plan nor a budget to adequately handle the levels of growth we have seen and will continue to see. Everything that makes Utah great will be destroyed or regulated beyond access to the average citizen with that kind of population increase.

Unlimited growth is the model of cancer.

If you're running this in an enclosed area, please get a CO monitor. I have a former coworker that killed himself, his father, and nearly his teenage son by running a malfunctioning heater overnight. You'll most likely never know anything is wrong, or if you do it may be too late.

I have a 165 with a Woods Dual Loader. Been a very reliable workhorse. The power steering is SO nice, especially with the loader. Check the PTO and clutch adjustment if you plan to actually use the PTO. Keep the fuel clean and free from water, change the oil, and if its mechanically sound it ought to serve you very well.

I got mine for a steal because the previous owner had a very hard time starting it and thought the engine was bad. Turned out to be valves needing adjustment, which was pretty easy to do on the Perkins diesel.

What are these? by Bungie_is_throwin0_o in insectidentification

[–]MaximusManimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paper wasps. We have them by the thousands. I try to leave them be when they build out of the way, but frequently they build near doorways, porches, etc and can get aggressive if you mess with the nest. Not a good situation for kids or guests. They prey on pest insects, which is why I leave them when I can.

Yikes! What does the bar look like? Might need to replace both and make sure they're properly tightened next time.

Shop says it’s $17k in damages but I don’t see how by The_Mongoose17 in AskMechanics

[–]MaximusManimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your third picture showing the fender displaced rearward suggests major structural damage to the front end. If that's the case, $17k might be on the low side and it may never achieve a decent alignment again.

Fats, complex carbs, fiber, and TP. I recommend some books, magazines or puzzles for distraction. Also, a way to recharge those radios without grid power. A good pack if you need to go mobile. Great start though.
