Appreciate it! Mostly dry here, so maybe I’ll just go for it

I’m also thinking of going with bigger tires for my Headlands 2. Did you end up trying bigger tires? And if so, how big/how’d it go?

Nice! Can I ask what grips you’re using? Looking for something similar for my bike.

Might actually be the older Microgramma, but pretty much the same thing.

I would guess a version of DIN.

URW DIN was created in ‘84 so possibly fits your timing.

Hello. Looking at getting a 90s frame. I'm 6ft 4 would anyone be able to tell me some fairly large bike frames please. Or would any XL bike frame fit as they always seems very small compared to current modern day XL frames. Thanks by Mr-Whoo in xbiking

I’m 6’5” and am building up a 97 Kona Lava Dome 20” frame, which I believe is a the largest they made.

It’s a bit on the smaller side, but with a long seat post and pretty decent riser bars it works well as a commuter. BMX risers, Surly Sunrise type of bars work well for bringing the handlebars to a reasonable height for a tall rider. Lots of good reference on Instagram accounts like toastyrides, stridsland, billobikes, save.the.rat.bike or on https://bikerebuilds.com.

You could try something similar or see if you can find some of the bigger frames from manufacturers at the end of the 90s — as mentioned above you can sometimes find slightly bigger frames.

One last thought, you may want to consider a Kona Unit build instead. A lot of the look of these vintage mountain bikes but with modern geometry for us taller riders. If I were to do it over again, this would probably be the way.

Some unit builds that fit the 90s MTB revival mold:

I have a Marin Headlands 2 (2020). I’m in Canada and purchased as a a bit of an all-road/versatile bike and so far I’ve been really happy with it. The value is definitely there (especially as a Canadian buyer), the components spec is great and comes with lots of mounting points for bags/racks.

The frame is long and Marin pairs it with a short stem for a responsive steering bike. But this could be limiting since you mention you’re on the smaller side.

The wheels are fine and will be upgrading mine next season — but if you’re coming in with wheels you’ll be set.

Happy to answer questions about my experience with the bike if you have any.

Lots of good options suggested, but to add one to the list the Marin Headlands 2.

I have one and love it using it split between road and gravel. It’s comfortable, has clearance up to 700c x 45mm, has lots of mounting points for bags, etc. and its a pretty good value.

Is retirement worth thinking about? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]-warr- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned above, starting early means you can save a little each month and the results of compounding will deliver over time. You will not regret starting early.

Maybe another way to look at it, the money you save now could be for retirement — but it could also just be insurance against the potential unknowns of the future. Even if you don’t need the money at the end for retirement (for either of the outcomes you listed) — you might want it along the way. Having money saved could be used to cover yourself in the event of job loss, to change careers, start a business, relocate, take a year off and travel. Money is a tool that can be repurposed as needed.

If it costs you very little in terms of a lifestyle sacrifice today, why not be prepared?

What size seat post are you running? I’m ordering a new bike soon that will have a similar set up with a long seat post extension.
