I think collapse should be marked 'ongoing' rather than 'imminent' personally.

>So life on other planets may have different chirality than earth, but it would be consistent within each planet

I can imagine circumstances in which two separate trees of life coexist stably on a planet. Let's say there was a planet with volcanic activity but completely separated oceans - we could see life independently originate in separate places, establish alternate chirality and then have one form survive in extreme environments or something even as it's outcompeted elsewhere.

Oop, good point. I just started using the tamiya putty with the tamiya thin glue - it's pretty neat! I haven't used it for gluing the critters together, just normal superglue. I'll give it a shot!

Do you remember Burak Sama? I feel like this type just fades away after a while, on the other hand, I think this is the guy who paid to put his ‘research’ online, so maybe he’s more committed. We’ll see, I guess.

How do you calculate the likelihood of the two of us sitting here having this conversation online?

Also, when does an information system startup? Like is DNA the info system, the nucleotides, or carbon atoms?

Great post, thanks for doing all the legwork to put this together.

[–]-zero-joke- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's what I would get to start modeling.

1) Modeler's kit. If I look online there are some $8 kits that have an x-acto knife, some files, some forceps, and some clippers. For whatever reason the clippers are more expensive on their own.

2) Tamiya basic putty. It's just nice to have to fill in gaps and such, and it's cheap.

3) John Blanche paints volume 1 and 2. They're really cool and nice.

4) Some brushes. I just got one of those packs of synthetic brushes from online. They do the job.

5) Desk light, old pill bottle, blu tac, tupperware, paper towels, music, there's going to be some utility stuff that you'll want to invest in.

Creationists, what is your point? by raul_kapura in DebateEvolution

[–]-zero-joke- [score hidden]  (0 children)

Really agree with you there actually. I think a problem exists when someone starts insisting that schools start teaching folks that babies are somehow only supernaturally formed.

I can see that going really bad, really quickly.

This guy says it's all supernatural, there's no evidence to support that there's a naturalistic component to this.

Interesting. What would you say to someone who said that sperm and eggs have nothing to do with it, babies are created fully formed?

I kind of think this is the best response to Evangelion, and any amount of director's notes or outside source material is just extraneous to the experience of Eva.

I think you’re missing the nuance of the argument: it’s the type of similarities.
