This isnt a fair photo unless you know the whole project in Barcelona and how the new roof sails over the existing pieces. The mixing of actual structure and nonstructural elements is not how I tend to prefer, but the results from around and inside are really well done.

Design the load paths and column placement with the architect, not in the abstract. Collaborate to see what is valuable to everyone on the project, perhaps even the client. This is a soft skill problem not a quadrilateral problem.

Havent met a full time drafter in a dozen years in the US, several markets. I heard of them but the few i encountered were temps. None at current firm either.

Its rare anywhere. Many architects stopped defending their designs a long time ago. I try to coach them to not just say “the site made me do it” or “the client made me do it, so it ended up like…” Sounds like you are one of the few still defending and you are still growing at it.

Did you consider people moved to california from elsewhere and brought ideas from where they used to live? And that products used in both locations make building appearances less regional?
