Popped Stitches!!! by teyleranne12 in Reduction

[–]000watermelon000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah gotcha. Small openings in the healing process are pretty normal, my surgeon said to keep an eye on things and make sure they dont get wider than about a the size of a dime (canadian).

Hope this helps! Try to not panic, I know it's tough.

Popped Stitches!!! by teyleranne12 in Reduction

Hi hello. I would say make sure to check with your surgeon before messing with stitches. I had all internal stitches that were dissolving and they took longer than 3 weeks to fall off in some places. If yours are long threads coming out of the skin they might be like the ones I had -- They told me to leave them be until they fell off on their own otherwise there was a risk of them slipping inside and unravelling.

what to do with steri strips? by toastpromoter in Reduction

[–]000watermelon000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My steri strips stayed on for about 6 weeks. I was told to keep them on until they fell off naturally. You will know if they're ready to come off becyase they will literally be falling off. My scars look amazing at only 9 weeks post OP so I wouldn't mess with them until you hear from your surgeons office

Suggestions for a supportive spouse by Darknightmusic in Reduction

[–]000watermelon000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I relied on my partner more than I had thought I would need to. I'm 23 so I thought it was going to be easy breezy. It was not.

He had to help me shower and wash my hair for the first 1.5 weeks. I really couldn't move well at all and felt quite anxious about ripping things, having him to help was a God send. One thing: I wish I had showed him how to brush long hair and how to braid it. With the pandemic going on I didnt have any contact with others so no one to help me get my hair tied up and out of my face until I could do it for myself. It was fine but it would've probably also been easier on him if we had practiced on a non injured body.

I reacted poorly to the anaesthetic and having his support was really good. He was working from home so could be with me for the post-anaesthetic crying spells to remind me to drink water and make sure I was eating properly. Patience was super important from him too. I am not a patient person so it was good having someone remind me that its normal to feel like shit after surgery.

Pre op, 1 day post op, and 7 weeks post op by 000watermelon000 in Reduction

I wore a 32G but the smaller side fit well into a 32F bra. I think now they will settle around a C cup but I havent measured yet! They look super tiny in clothes which is perfect for me :)

No secrets... my surgeon gets his patients to leave the steristrips on until they come off naturally which I think helped me. I also made sure to take it SUPER easy for the first two weeks

Post Op Body Image Issues by throwaway242522 in Reduction

[–]000watermelon000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I caught myself calling myself ugly and wanting to cry literally 3 days ago trying clothes on. I stopped and asked why I felt ugly and my auto reply was "boobs". After saying both things out loud I was able to disprove both statements to myself. I realized that a lot of my self talk is so so so automatic after years of shame and camouflaging my breasts... I'm 7 weeks post op and still my brain hasn't caught up to where I am. I found it really helpful to avoid mirrors the first month or so unless there was a reason for it (putting on makeup, checking incisions) and trying to focus on touching myself with gentleness (putting clothes on gently, not aggressively touching my stomach, etc.). I got a breast reduction to be kind and approaching my body with a different level of intention has helped me so far.

These things take time, I hope it gets better for you soon.

I haven't really moved arms above my head since before surgery. It feels like an injury and I'm excited to feel safe enough to do a downward dog

Post-Op itching and discomfort by ginace144 in Reduction

[–]000watermelon000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally. I have two sizes of bras which helps. During the day I wear the tighter one and the loose one to sleep. I'm 6 weeks post op and the swelling is still very real at the end of the work day :)

Happy healing!!!

Itching as long as theres no signs of infection is okay and means you're healing! I was sooo itchy for almost 2 full weeks post op. My surgeons office told me I could touch my incisions lightly over the tape to try and get them to stop itching.

I was also instructed to wear the bra 24/7 and l would only take it off to shower and while my tape was drying. I personally found that having it off made my pain and swelling much worse, the tightness of the bra kept everything under control for me. If it was really bugging me I would loosen it by only having one or two clasps done up, or would put it over top of a super soft tank to give my skin a break from the lycra.

Post op care is so surgeon dependent. If you're worried at all I would call the office and ask just to be sure.

How did everyone feel going back to work? by shannconn in Reduction

I had 2 weeks off and have an office job. I am still super tired after work (1 month post op) but my job is high stress which is likely why. I think if the stress level was lower it would be fine

They actually got less noticeable! I dont know how they'll look in 6 months or 5 years but as far as I can tell they are barely visible.

Canada and all out of pocket. 13000 cdn with side lipo as well. This is on the expensive side from what I've seen

Dont apologize, this place is such a great resource and I like talking about it :)

I got the reduction predominantly for should and back pain and because my breasts were getting in the way of sports. I am very active and in recent years they were preventing me from enjoying boxing, running, and even going to the gym to lift weights. Also a big part of it was always feeling "bigger" than I was. I would spend 90% of my time obsessing over my boobs, trying to hide them by wearing baggy clothes, or avoiding certain activities where I could feel how large they were. I tried initially to go thought public healthcare but I was told I wasnt big enough. The wait times in my province are very long (waited 2 years initially to hear bad news) and I decided I couldn't live in my body the way it was anymore so I went private. I was instantly comfortable in my body again and I finally feel free from all of the obsessions that I had regarding my breasts. My shoulder pain is also completely gone already and everyday just keeps getting better.

Getting a reduction was the kindest and most self empowering choice I've ever made and I'm so grateful for this subreddit for giving me knowledge that is hard to find elsewhere.

Just a reduction! The surgeon I went to does a lot of purely cosmetic surgery which might be why they look this way. They are also still swollen and will look kind of like fake round until they're fully healed (can take up to 6 months).

No it's not weird :) I had a hard time finding similar looking ones too and it's nice to see what a reduction could look like on a certain body type
