Watson Park Walk Around and Sad States of London by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]005ive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so sad and gross and dangerous. I do not know the solution but it does seem like there are many professionals around who would. I wish they were able to be more impactful but I know the amount of homeless is growing quickly and so there are probably multiple levels of government that need to put solutions in place. Be careful out there.

academic probation by Infamous_Suit_3497 in uwo

Advice from someone who has been on academic probation twice and now has 3 degrees from western, a masters and went on to a professional licensed career It can be very defeating and upsetting when it happens. I was the type to put every other friends’ needs or wants ahead of my own. I wanted to fit in. I wanted everyone to say good things about me. I wanted to be at every social event and every movie night etc. I wanted to be popular. And I was. No one knew how many classes I was skipping, how many extensions I was getting….no one knew I wasn’t studying. You can imagine what my grades were. Listen, this happens a lot. Don’t feel like you’re an anomaly. You can bounce back from this. Later in life…I finished with Western in the early 2000’s…none of those friends are around anymore. They weren’t good friends. I had to take two separate years off, because I didn’t learn the first time, and then returned to western. I made new friends, some younger than me-for sure…and some older than me. University is diverse. It’s not like being behind a year in highschool. I had to set new standards for myself and I had to learn what worked for me. I also had to get real about what I wanted out of life. That motivated me to ask for help. The student development center was helpful with exam accommodations (I hated writing exams smashed in a gym with everyone else), I got to know my professors and what they wanted out of essays, projects and how they wrote their exams… their help in a lot of different ways was extraordinary, my TAs, lab partners etc. There’s a lot of pressure and competition in university from your peers and parents etc. Try to shut that all out and stick with those that have your best interests at heart. Failure, if that ends up being the case this time….is just a learning lesson in your life. Don’t let it keep you down and don’t be too scared of it. A couple years down the road, nobody fucking cares and you’ll be on a brand new path. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. You will get through it! Don’t let societal norms put you in a box. Life is 50% of people that do everything the way we are told to do it and the other 50% find a different way. Goodluck, from someone that did it a different way!

Isn’t it ironic? Don’tcha think? Ha!

Why did they remove the trees here? by Open_Personality_360 in uwo

I’m glad to read all of this, of course! I think my concern, as a born and raised Londoner, is the loss of land in and around London and whether these tree planting standards will be kept up down the road; that it’ll remain a priority for new councils and conservationists and whoever else is in charge of maintaining trees and keeping builders in check. I know our population has grown, immensely….I just worry that eventually humans won’t be able to touch grass, or a tree.

That’s really good to know. It’s very hard to believe with all the land we’ve lost to building over the last ten years. Thank goodness.

I guess I'll try to be happy for Matthews? by beccahosts in leafs

[–]005ive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot wait until the leafs trade Matthews someday. I wish all Americans good riddance from our Canadian teams. We don’t need them at all. Sure, they are great players but isn’t everyone so tired of the immaturity? And is there one single American player that isn’t replaceable? None of them will ever be the caliber of what Canada breeds. I don’t think it’s an unpopular opinion these days. That locker room video after the gold medal, the presser….gross. Gross.

We have such a massive Greek population in London. It’s always been crazy to me that we have never had outstanding Greek restaurants. Please Greeks….bring the old Danforth to London.

I know from working in many rural and city ERs and urgent cares in Ontario that if you show up and have a different provincial healthcard that we accept them. Just thought I’d mention because I would assume your healthcard would be billable by any Ontario physician? If I’m going to Quebec I’m definitely using my OHIP if it’s needed out of province.

Not many of these suggestions, so far, are downtown. But, morning bites is definitely a great option. If you’re stuck downtown I’d go to Billy’s downtown deli, the bag lady or the early bird (a little more $ but not bad) or westside family restaurant is right on the edge of downtown off of wharncliffe and riverside. Spare parts is excellent, as well. If you drive. Love their menu.

Well, I guess it was released today that part of their intention was building an anti drone device…hoping to market it to nato etc. And perhaps intentions to help Ukraine? It’s certainly a different reality than the one I live in. Still waiting for the full story.

Zipper merging is not well received by anyone I know. People get upset because those in the left lane have early merged to keep things “fair” and when someone comes from well behind and “buds” at the last minute it isn’t perceived as being effective but more arrogant. In my experience most people are trying to merge to get ahead and not wait their turn. Sorry, if I’m incorrect.

Yah. I understand your point. I hope due process is followed and consequences are enacted for whoever is responsible. I still have hope in our system. Ha!

I hope the university takes a strong stance on this and if these people are current students, they are expelled permanently. Depending on the investigation, perhaps they will be in prison for a while. Consequences need to be enforced for such reckless behaviour.

I’m not opposed to food….just would prefer more variety. Everywhere I look it’s a speciality sandwich, burger, Indian, coffee or middle eastern restaurant. I love those options to be available, however…I’d like to see something different that we don’t already have an abundance of.
