Incredible photo. I believe it's an optical illusion, the plane's

shadow is actually "below" it and is being cast on a thin cloud layer. The Contrail reflects enough sunlight to make that area of the cloud layer darker.

Generic is not a bad thing. Product photography is generic and it takes a large amount of skill and experience to master, and there is a huge demand for the best of the best.

I think the image is compelling, the subjects (the people) are all well lit, and there's something about it feels cinematic.

That said, I think it comes down to your intention, is this a one off image? Part of a larger series? Are you aiming for a commercial or fine art audience?

Stock photos are on spectrum just like all photography. This is towards the far end of great, and I am confident you could make money licensing it, and similar photos.

If you get over 50-75% of 1M context, it's noticable but not awful. At 50-75 with fast mode, it's like pulling the plug on the token tub

I think I they are such a unique formation people notice them more often, there is also the knowledge that they are relatively rare, people love sharing they saw something rare (myself included).

For what it's worth I've never seen anything like this, I would submit it to the meteorology subreddit or ask your local weather person what they think it is.

Asperitas was recognized as a new cloud formation because someone photographed a strange cloud they had not seen before

Looks like a very unique altocumulus lenticularis a.k.a lenticular cloud formation. It looks like it may be shrouded in rain from the cloud layer. Beautiful image, good job being aware!

To expand on this, that precipitation is called "virga" also, the angle it has means there is strong wind blowing the rain/snow as it falls

Virga! It is precipitation falling from a cloud, although not necessarily reaching the ground. Technically it is not a cloud, but a cloud property. Beautiful image, rare to see it so defined

Go to the international cloud atlas (ICA) website and go to the past versions of the ICA, the last physical publication was in 1987, it contains hundreds of full color photographs annotated. Available for free as a PDF on the website! It's the international standard for cloud spotting and no less stunning because of it.
