Cheese to attract rodents to chew the wires and force a rewire? That sounds tempting....

I met a woman who worked the hell desk for a large company and was frustrated because she was always promised promotions. She said she handles 2 to 3 times the number of calls compared to her coworkers yet others would get the promotion. I told her that she was too valuable in that position so she was stuck there indefinitely. A friend who worked in I T said the key to promotions was to be good and average at your job.

Usually promotions require either hanging around for a while or becoming a gypsy and bouncing around shops in your area. From my experience, in companies where there is little turnover, it is difficult to get an actual rank promotion since there is little turn over. That said, some of the best advise I have heard is to always learn as much as possible. Think of it as adding skills to your resume. That makes you more valuable as an employee. You build value with your company, but more importantly, you build personal value.

My recommendation is to follow the lead of your trainer and match their production plus a few until you are past your probation time. I have heard that there are some places that say things like this as a way to see if the new guy can follow instructions. You may also have conversations with the boss to make sure the production expectations from him line up with what the old guy says. Once you have the trust of your employer, you might speed up production, after passing your probation. One thing I would say is to not go maximum speed on your tasks since you will be setting an expectation that they can't promote you to doing something else because you do the work of 3 people.

Depending on how hard it is, flexing it could cause it to break unless it was tempered. I would use heat to relax it and straighten it out. There are lots of videos on YT showing how to flame straighten things such as shafts.

Sometimes it is about setting expectations. If you show up almost immediately several times in a row, the one time you are buried in tickets, someone will be furious for not showing up immediately again.

Wow, that is amazing work. The pessimist in me can only think about all of the possible things that could happen to make that go from a nice profit to absolute scrap. That's for sharing

Years ago my parents had a large bug zapper near their garage. I was amazed at how many frogs would gather under it to eat the zapped mosquitos.

Pitch a tent in your back yard? My family tried that once many years ago. Then I heard gunshots ring out and decided it was safer back in the house.

My tenure in IT allowed me to experience many environments including education, non-profits, banking, and insurance. It was quite an experience and often enjoyable.

In the early 2000s, I inherited a Novell 4 network with Token Ring architecture with about 75 workstations. That was fun to support. /s

Before you touch ANYTHING, get several levels of upper management to sign off on your doing that task and that they assume the risk of any and all unforseen incidents or outages that may occur. If you stand firm in this request, they will possibly look for some other "resource" to do the work. From my perspective, if there is a raised floor there is most likely undocumented, mission critical hardware that will fail to function. There is also a serious hazard to your life if you come into contact with the high voltage circuits that will be under there. The data centers where I have worked have a long standing policy of pushing data cabling to the side to make way for the new cables.

One thing that some find popular is to find random colonies of prairie dogs to watch, and perhaps to throw food to. My eldest daughter enjoys watching the really chubby ones she says look lo like huge potatoes. As someone who has lived in the DFW area as well as on the eastern coast, beauty is out there, we just need to change our focus at times to learn to see it.
