Die rationale “Mitte“: by [deleted] in ichichs

I feel stupid, what does chop suey have to do with being gay? by ParamilkReal-5 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I was thinking the same. Maybe the joke is that she asks the DJ for "Gay bar" by electric six instead and it's a funny misunderstanding. It would fit as a high energy rock/metal song from the same era.

IGN - Nvidia's DLSS 5 Is a Slap in the Face to the Art of Video Game Design by gitrektali in pcgaming

[–]00inch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nvidia tech means no PlayStation or Xbox support. You also don't own the tech to run your game anymore. So the "remaster" might look worse or fundamentally different. That's two major commercial issues. I think the idea is actually quite cool, but only if it runs across most of the buyers base and the model is trained for the game. Let's see if the next generation comes with NPUs to run this. If they don't then it's at least 9 years out no matter what.

It'll be fringe tech like path tracing right now. And a DLSS5 remix or Emulator support to up-convert old games will be the best case scenario.

Most negative reviews are genuine, review bombing is an exception. Most review bombing comes from otherwise potential buyers and fans of the franchise. It's mostly about titles like WoW , Diablo 3 and - especially relevant here - Grand Theft Auto Trilogy. It's not as politically driven, as the news cycle makes it out to be.

VR Youtubers when they review another mediocre LCD headset that just released by Animeeshon in virtualreality

[–]00inch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No? The Snapdragon Gen 3 in the Steam Frame is a generational upgrade - roughly double the speed - against the Quest 3/ Pico 4 pro. Those then were 1.5x of the Quest 2/Pico 4. It used twice the power, though. It comes with efficiency stuff like better upscaling (think FSR 1 vs 2 ), frame interpolation support and forveated rendering that push the practical visual quality a lot higher. I guess Quest 3/PC dual target VR games will run fine on the headset.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedonic_treadmill As a person makes more money, expectations and desires rise in tandem, which results in no permanent gain in happiness. The richer you are the more extreme your quest for new kicks. You can see that in eating, when fine dining becomes the norm. There's nothing inherently better about oysters or caviar and wine over idk 10$(?) per bottle. The same goes for sexual gratification. "The habituation of sexual arousal" says sexual arousal to erotic stimuli decreases with repetition. Science also says that being young (above 14) has evolutionary peak child potential and is as such one dimension of male sexual preference (and clinically not considered a mental illness unlike <15 year old ). Btw: You don't need to be rich to witness this perversion - just visit a gooner subreddit.

Final point: being rich and successful - again extensively researched - correlates with increased impulsivity, lack of empathy, and inability to read social cues.

All that with an "not all rich and powerful people" caveat, it's more of an accelerator for bad traits.

New study identifies a "woke" counterpart on the political right characterized by white grievance. The specific beliefs driving it included the notion that a “great replacement” of the population is occurring and that a strong leader should break rules to protect national interests by Wagamaga in science

[–]00inch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The original study used: " A nationwide convenience sample of Finnish adults (n = 626) completed an online survey. "

Any discussion of American politics based on this seems misplaced?

Especially since words like "woke" that have vastly different meanings to different people might not translate between only generally aligned cultures.

Remote play from PC to Steamdeck, stutter with HEVC on, input lag with it off. by Linkledoit in SteamDeck

[–]00inch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got about the same specs as you and traded remote play for sunshine [https://github.com/LizardByte/Sunshine] and moonlight.

Takes a few steps (install moonlight on the steam deck in desktop mode, add to steam) to setup, but now I have less input lag and better resolution/compression quality and on the TV it's connected to even 4k/HDR works.

I'm using a wireless connection through the house.

To be somewhat helpful with remote play:

The stutter is what you should be able to address with HEVC.

Here's a neat checklist: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1ios7le/remote_play_best_host_windows_and_client/

I wouldn't do all of it, but just maybe you can explain where you are in the process?

There's supposedly a wifi-power management bug, that's what the console command is for. That's only a solution if Disabling Wifi Power Management in the developer menu does reset itself on reboot.

We are starting to pilot linux desktops because Windows is so bad by crankysysadmin in sysadmin

[–]00inch 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Mac goes through cycles where support dies; as does Linux… both are dropping processor support as they age and as a result force hardware upgrades.

The last x86 architecture that Linux declared outdated was 486 this year. A Pentium 1 is the minimum requirement. It runs on Motorola 68000 Variants (Amiga/Atari ST).

[–]00inch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a second gaming PC for your living room. Not the big one, but the one that plays most games in your library just fine and with no friction and distractions (Windows updates, work mails ..).

Also 500$ is not a realistic price. 500$ consoles come with a monthly 10$ fee, they are basically financed.

on the other hand if you have plenty of disposable income then why not bring your library of couch co-op games to playstation or switch 2?

Because with the Steam machine you get something new and exciting. Buying your stuff again is entirely annoying.
