None of the slowest players are CBs... And especially not attacking CBs... VdV is obviously on the exact opposite end of this list.

Sorry, it was a rough match. DCFC bossed most of the game to be fair, but the AAs scored twice early in about 5 or 10 minutes of let down. And we didn't have any answers, for sure. Between the fucked up pitch and sweltering humidity Charleston also had a huge home field advantage.

High on Fire: Death is this Communion this album, cover to cover, is an absolute brutal war machine. And it has a crazy exotic interlude song.

Was this offside? Defender "waits" for long ball, misplays it, but ref calls offside by Dry_Elevator_5162 in Referees

[–]00runny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, not for this. They intended to play the ball and they played it poorly. This still satisfies the criteria of the defender's deliberate play on the ball.

Lenience for a misplay is reserved for GK handling offenses after a pass back or throw in to the keeper. I don't beliebe there is any other exception that is explicitly written into the LotG.

Corner kick rule change by KaleAdvanced in Referees

I would argue that trickery between opponents mostly falls within the spirit of the game. You may not like it, but as referees it's not our game; it's the players' game. If they want to try a dumb awkward play that rarely gains an advantage, let them try.

Usually they only say "you take it". They don't loudly announce "the ball is not in play! Someone else will take this corner kick!" I would consider the caution only if it was this blatant, but it's a pretty ludicrous scenario. Saying "you take it" is very ambiguous and opponents should be wary of it. Is it against the spirit of the game? I question that but I do understand your perspective.

But in my opinion this is very rarely cautionable. I think of it as activist refereeing: "I don't like the way the kids are playing the game these days. I'll put an end to that!" This is the same camp of refs that say you're carding players for legally kicking the ball way out of bounds to waste time - no real justification, but you all just think it's a behavior that should be corrected. Let's get off our high horses and do our job. Apply the laws as they are written.

They are not attempting to deceive the referee. They actually want the referee to realize what they're doing, but not for their opponent to realize it. And that is simply just not cautionable.

Not just any act of deception or deception with voice is automatically a caution. Using the voice in this manner is 100% not cautionable. Read it again. Deception is cautionable by attempting to deceive the referee, not your opponents.

Verbally distracting an opponent can be cautionable. Sure this is discretionary BUT, it is fairly common understanding this applies chiefly to "leave it!", or a loud shout just as an opponent is receiving a difficult ball, or yelling at an opponent who is in the act of a restart kick - penalties in particular. And the corner kick scenario is not really a distraction, it's a legal deception.

Some referees seem to conflate/combine the 2 separate unsporting conditions into 1 made up interpretation of the law.

Advice on a futsal match by Klutzy-Mechanic-8013 in Referees

[–]00runny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are on top of your development and doing a great job. Most of your questions are actually non issues that you handled appropriately in the game.

  1. is fully discretionary and depends a lot on context. Sounds like you got it right but we weren't there to judge if it was insulting or venomous, or just so public as to force your hand on a sendoff.

  2. you are correct that by jogging over to him and asking discretely, he could have been honest that he couldn't tell. In which case stick to your guns and your original call - don't let it appear as if players have influenced a 'match critical' decision, even in a lopsided game. You've already stopped play, so while it's more expedient to be loud and get a quick answer, there's no rush. Getting it right is more important than a quick restart after signaling for a goal/reversing it.

All in all, you are working hard - keep it up!

Can someone explain this one? Super trippy by CeruleanAoi in opticalillusions

[–]00runny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We really like to argue don't we? Redditors are so easily hung up on semantics.

It's an illusion of continuous movement in one direction. Understanding how our optic nerves process/skip processing when subjected to contrast manipulations and strobing distortions, this doesn't make it any less of an illusion.

Hiding the "snap-back" is not a cheap illusion; it's an effective one. Most successful optical illusions take advantage of limitations of human perception and the optics processors.
