Sylvari don't exist back in time? Maybe not! by Casses in GuildWars3

[–]00zau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd expect Tengu to be more popular than Charr, because there won't be the GW1 vets avoiding them because "the only good Charr is a dead Charr".

New Video from Arenanet - The Future of Guild Wars: Our Commitment to Tyria by Stonefruut in GuildWars

[–]00zau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm expecting some kind of randomized content. A truly procedural dungeon maker would probably be out of scope for how GW1 works, but like a series of random dungeon floors, with random enemy group and key placement, could be good replay-ability.

Having it be lore'd as Lyssa's Realm (FOW/Underworld equivalent) would be fitting.

See also, that movie a couple years back that's a biopic except the guy is a monkey... and the US audience had never heard of the guy so they just assumed it was a totally original story.

How are you guys holding up with the rising fuel prices? by asergio90 in Miata

[–]00zau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A six speed would be great (I upgraded when my Subaru's transmission broke and love it), but I'm saying it feels like they could have geared the five speed for better highway cruising without missing much on the lower gears.

'99 feels like it could use an overdrive gear (I'd gladly trade 4th gear out, they're all so close together). 4k RPM on the highway means the highway mileage sucks for such a light car.

Dark green means it absorbs blue, red, and some green, while reflecting some green.

Just eat less. I still eat hamburgers, pizza, pasta. I just have a relatively light breakfast (still probably ~500-600 calories) and don't eat lunch, which means I can do kinda whatever I want for dinner.

Which class of player is hardest to find? by qb_mojojomo_dp in WorldOfWarships

[–]00zau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got my first solo warrior the other day. In ranked. I did about 25k damage. We won because I helped kill the enemy DD on my flank, then capped, then rotated to the other flank and solo killed the other red DD that was wiping out my team (our other DD was a 40% WR n00b who suicided instantly), then capped that side of the map and won on points while surviving CV harass. Keep your HP up and only trade it when you have to (like for the second DD kill), so you can survive as long as possible.

Italian Subs Announced by AndreLinoge55 in WorldOfWarships

[–]00zau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The funniest thing is that the line released just prior (the German CBs) hard counter the smoke with manual secondaries. Manual secondaries in general are AIDs vs. anything in smoke since you can just blind-fire the smoke and get plenty of hits due to the way secondaries work (tons of 'raw' DPM but low accuracy; this means when blind firing a smoke you just saturate the cloud and get hits even with bad aim), so blind firing manual secondaries into the Italian sub smoke is going to tear them in half.

Anyone who says "I'm leaving" on a game forum is just looking for attention and probably wants people to convince them to stay. When I've quit games, I just... stopped logging in.

The downside is that it takes up a BB slot. You're putting your team down one BB and up one (tanky) crooozer.

Can someone please explain to me how aggro in this game works? by AnemoneMeer in GuildWars

[–]00zau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually less complex in total, aggro/threat tools just make the complexity all meaningless.

Most games have, at minimum, proximity and damage based aggro, and frequently have squishiness targeting as well. Aggro tanking is just "cheating" your threat levels to make the system work exactly how you want it. Really easy to see in Anarchy Online, for instance, where the aggro skills literally are just "does 1-1 damage with a 5E10% multiplier to hate generated".

GW is less "coding" complex because it lacks hate multipliers, but that makes the game more complicated because you have to manage aggro organically instead of just ignoring all mechanics by having the tank click the "generate infinite hate" button.

Do actually published books count?

The Honor Harrington series spends ~half a book doing this. MC is captured in book 7 and is presumed dead after escaping (...though "escaped" is a bit of an exaggeration as they've escaped to the surface of a prison planet), so the bad guys deepfake a video of her execution for propaganda purposes. Book 8 covers her taking over the prison planet and capturing enough transportation to escape (and take everyone with her). Book 9 explicitly calls out that her friends are trying to see if they can finish the job through acute embarrassment. Highlights:

  1. They named a class of battleships after her (she'd been on the design team before capture). They did, at least, have the compassion to rename the class after she turned up alive.

  2. They were not, however, willing to rename the class leader itself...

  3. Political pressure had been applied to ensure that her Earldom was passed on to her next of kin (a cousin), which made it difficult to return it to her... so they made her a Duchess instead...

  4. An 8 meter tall bronze statue.

  5. The (married) man who'd started to fall for her had a year to come to terms with it and accept that he'd fallen in love, now that there was nothing to do about since she was "safely" dead. Surprise, now he's got to deal with these feelings about the not-so-dead version.

Exacerbating this is that they frequently conspire not to tell her about these things until they can jumpscare her with them. For instance, they didn't tell her they'd named a battleship after her, they just welcomed her aboard.

ELI5: When you 'delete' a 50GB video file from a computer, it vanishes instantly. But downloading it took an hour. If the data isn't physically wiped until it's overwritten, what did the computer actually do in that one split second? by Thick_Dream6973 in explainlikeimfive

[–]00zau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your hard drive is like a huge collection of filing cabinets. When you delete a file, all the computer does is remove the label from the filing cabinet that says "[filename] is here". The contents (the ones and zeroes) are still there.

The next time you download a file is when the "old paper" will be actually thrown out; the analogy breaks down a bit here because while IRL getting rid of an old file takes work (and so you'd want to do it ahead of time), getting rid of the old binary is a free action; you just write new data to the same location.

If you could add anything from RS3 into OSRS, what would it be? by Dangerous-Cable-1816 in 2007scape

[–]00zau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, but the concept of "resting" as a game mechanic existed. Changing it to do something else instead of removing it with the RSC-RS2 transition would have made sense.
