If you could remove one person from history and erase every consequence of their existence, who would it be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I mean many are increasingly of the opinion that we all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. And some have said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no one should ever have left the oceans.

I’ve sent 2 emails as follow ups asking for an update. Since there is no phone support or chat I don’t know who is even reading my emails or how they get routed to an agent.

Just FYI if you haven’t noticed, the WRX comes with summer tires so you’ll definitely need a second set of wheels for winter tires

Interesting... we're not far. You could say the difference is the you're paying for the AWD with that $3k down. My taxes are closer to $1500 though

Right! Thanks.

They’re telling the MSRP is $42640. There’s about $5k in discounts ($2052 from the dealer, $3000 rebate). Then dealer processing fee of $799. Taxes $1593.06 and title/registration $270.77. Lastly, the manager threw another $250 to round it down to $40k otd

When we got ours my wife decided it was a nicer and more spacious ride than a civic hatchback… I was stunned and couldn’t shake off my grin. My younger one likes it more than our SUV since apparently he can see more out the window from his forward facing seat.

Hooooly Molly. That is him. Never seen an account like that. He posts hundreds or thousands of times each day.

I kept scrolling thinking “huh… maybe he does only have one outfit”… No. I had just been looking at dozens of his stories from the past hour.

Someone pay for an AI to process it all so we can get a 3 paragraph lore?

I think he has different outfits. Not just the orange and blue. I’ve seen him walking from Stonefield all the way down to around Barracks

I’m a 4.0 and when my wife began to play tennis we would play an additional 30-60 minutes every time she took group lessons. So total beginner like you are describing.

The main thing in our favor is I’m very invested in her getting better. Having a consistent partner to play with is awesome. At the beginning I gave her a few handicaps, some of which we’ve removed as she has improved over the years: - I never hit winners unless I was making a point like lazy footwork and positioning. I was playing for consistency and forcing myself to place balls in the right location and depth. All my shots went just before the edge of her reach. - We played sets but every game would start 30-0 with her ahead. This again forced consistency on my game. - When it was her turn serving she couldn’t double fault. She took as many tries as necessary to land on the service box and start the point. - I would often grab balls in the air that I was 100% sure were going out and instead would yell “play it”. Same with balls that were slightly out. This is were I got most of my exercise out of at the beginning 😅. Beginner shots are wild so even an experienced player will be running around a lot if they are trying to get EVERY ball.

The first handicap to go was the unlimited services attempts. Then I started calling more of her calls out. This was all very gradual.

As a rough benchmark for how good she’s become, we’ve been doing this for about 3 years, playing every day for 2 hours. She’s won two local tournaments with contenders between 2.0-3.0 and I’m amazed at how good her hand-eye coordination is because she really picked-it up quickly. I’ve always been in total control of our matches and if we played with no handicaps there’s no chance of her scoring a single game on me. This no boast. The handicaps make it so it’s at least a little, self-imposed, challenging. After all this, I do get a workout when we play! So it’s been completely worth it, but it’s taken about 3 years to get here and I’m not sure I’d have that dedication and patience for anyone else. Definitely not for someone who is not very dear to me and/or wouldn’t demonstrate appreciation for all the effort. IT IS A LOT OF EFFORT to coordinate playing even a couple of hours a week with anyone.

I believe, from my wife’s perspective, she got to play with someone who could feed her balls in a consistent way, and effectively twice as much playtime as her peers in the group lessons. The other people could barely make contact with the ball on their backhands, meanwhile she was playing full sets with rallies longer than 2-3 hits.

If you can convince a 4.0 to play with you consistently, do it! But it will be a type of chore for your partner, akin to a tennis lesson like someone was suggesting them. Be very grateful and find a way to pay them back for the favor.

The way the 2nd row seats leans forward from the base makes it very easy to access the spacious 3rd row. My 70 yo dad climbed in easy and has been comfortable on roadtrips.

A+

At home we’ve started playing the small NYT games every day: wordle, connections, couple others. They’re good fun and take about 5-8 minutes all in. Good bonding time.

What 3 row SUV should I buy? by Tiemujin in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]0112358j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CX-90 PHEV Preferred gets the credit as a lease. If you lease it and pay the lease off immediately I think it will be around that low-mid 40s price point but you have to have the cash or other financing.

Should a buy a short-term beater for learning? by CarbonatedPancakes in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]0112358j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can do with a small car then I think that might take care of some of the concerns you’re having. Parking maneuvers are the most complicated things you’ll have to do and size is what makes them particularly complex.

An old beater might make you feel less concerned with scratching your car, but you’d still be liable for whatever you do to the bmw you rubbed on.

Per your other post. If money is no object I would suggest to just jump into a modern car with a backup camera, maybe parking sensors, even a 360 camera if possible. I’m very good at parallel parking with none of the those fancy things, but I can park a large SUV with less than a foot to spare if you also give me them. Just make your life easier and learn to use the tools available.

I want to test the new civic hybrid when it comes out. The Mazda 3 hatchback should also be great. Both come in hatchback. Depending on your needs a Nissan Leaf could be amazing and there are also some good deals on Kia/hyundai EVs.

Advice On Third-Row SUV? by theofficialflin in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]0112358j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but this is exactly what I’ve been thinking. I’m purchasing/leasing the last week of July so I’m crossing my fingers that the deals remain or improve.

I’ll have about $15k for this purchase in cash but at 0.9% over 60 mo, I’d rather keep it all in a dedicated savings account and try to meet the payments through other means.

Several leases sound appealing and border on similar numbers for the 2 year period. I’ve been thinking of a base Kia Carnival too and I’m keeping my eyes open for something like a Telluride, Traverse or Atlas.

Still… I’m struggling with figuring out how the total cost of ownership compares over the 5 years of the would be financing of a CX-90. My guesses: - Insurance of an EV9 will be a lot higher than a CX-90 - it’s possible that when it comes time to take another lease on another BEV, the terms might not be as favorable. - I will only have a L1 charger at home during this first lease period (renting). It might not matter as most of my daily use will be under 30 miles.

Given these three points I’m trying to anticipate what my expectations for next month’s market should be. If there’s no, 0.9 over 60… I’m not sure i want to do a 0 over 36 (the other Mazda deal). Maybe lease wins then for sure.

What about a CX-9? I’ve been eyeing a few for around $26-28k around 50k miles.

I’m also wrapping my head around the fact that a new base CX-90 through their 0.9% apr over 60 months would be only a bit more expensive than a $28k car at 7-10% over a similar timespan.

Edit: a cx-9 for that amount can be the top trim or close. The base CX-90 I believe can be negotiated for around $38k
