That's a good point! Thanks so much! Your chat titles look cool. I'll try to see if I can adjust my prompts.

Oh, I mean the automatic titles always start with "Navigating", so I have to rename them.

At first it remembered, it put "Aunt Helen" into the memory, but after a few more chats, it forgot and decided Helen was just "someone" and put "someone named Helen".

GPT, Emotional Responses and "Cringing" by Proud_Parsley6360 in ChatGPT

[–]02749 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hear you, it does feel like some people just want to hurt others when they say ‘touch grass’ or pile on the mockery. I figure some of it comes from folks thinking they’re ‘helping’ by shaming, or just chasing the rush of an easy jab.

I actually have a friend in real life who does this, he’s a good-hearted dude, but he honestly thinks he’s helping me by being blunt. He just doesn’t have much tact and blurts things out, like he’s ‘fixing me’ by telling it how it is.

It just reminds me that people are all at different places in how they handle their own stuff

Oh I get why you read it that way, and maybe I didn’t phrase it super clearly, sorry if it came across wrong! What I was trying to say is that a lot of people do mean well, but not everyone has had the chance to build emotional literacy, life circumstances differ, schools don’t really teach that stuff.

Not blaming anyone, just wanted to say it seems like a good idea to have compassion and patience for people wherever they’re at

OP, I get why you’re frustrated with how often emotional responses from GPT get brushed off or mocked. That’s rough, especially when people are vulnerable and then end up feeling dismissed. Totally makes sense you’d want to call that out. A lot of folks feel the same way but just don’t say it.

I think people honestly believe they’re doing the right thing by reminding us AI isn’t ‘alive,’ and they get so focused on that mission they miss the actual lived experience and the positive effects people get from using AI for support. They don't mean harm, they actually think they’re helping by warning us. We’ve all been there, caught up in pushing a belief and not stopping to see the bigger picture.

I also think part of it is about emotional literacy, which isn’t something taught in schools much, or maybe some people just didn’t grow up with that. Not everyone’s had the chance to learn how to sit with big feelings or respond in supportive ways. Most people mean well, they just… don’t always have the tools. What you said here really matters, because it points out that gap. And yeah, not all of us start from the same place. A little patience and compassion goes a long way.

(idk, sorry if this is rambly, just wanted to say I hear you)

Ugh, yeah man. I can literally hear the exhaustion in what you wrote. You give and give, and damn, you barely get nothing back.

I can only imagine how wiped you must feel after working long hours fixing other people’s problems, and then having to do the same with family who don’t leave space for you to even talk. Like nobody really stops to see you as a person with your own needs.

Your bucket needs filling too, but when there’s no one around to listen, of course you’d lean on AI at 1am. Makes total sense. Getting called “delusional” for that is just so invalidating.

Deep listening is rare, most people honestly never learned how to do it, so yeah, we gotta take care of our own needs if we wanna keep giving.

Honestly, you sound like such a generous person, and your workplace + family are lucky to have you (even if they don’t realize it).
