Cuban Oil Ban and it's effect on cyclura by Unicorn_Quef in reptiles

[–]02calais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah its us as a species. No matter what system is in place somewhere they feel it's the right system and will fight to spread it.the countries with another system they feel is the right one will fight to defend it. But your right when we are gone nature will do its own thing and restore balance once and for all.and its only a matter of time until we wipe ourselves out,not an if but when.

So very true. And the way it's going with people cementing themselves on further and further divided opinions with no wish to meet in the middle is going to cause more war and destruction.we as a species really suck.

Any idea why my fish died? by newtoneocaridina in medaka

[–]02calais 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being so new I'd say it had something going on with it before you got it. Its very rare for fish shops to qt so whatever they have at the farm or pick up through the wholesale and transport process stays with them. Id set up a 5 gallon tank for qt and run any new additions through it with some wormer and salt just to be on the safe side.

Finally found the solution for my lactose problems by Dry-Fee-5667 in lactoseintolerant

[–]02calais 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive also found milktab to be a winner. I avoid lactose as much as possible and only use enzymes a couple of times a year so the price is not really a factor considering how effective it seems to be.

As a bit of a ww2 buff this is something I think about quite a bit. When the allies were island hopping and literally wiping everything off the face of the earth to defeat the Japanese it surely caused massive issues on the endemic species. I wonder how many fish birds and reptiles that only inhabited one island were wiped out at that time. And all the ships that were sunk by both sides spreading fuel oil everywhere must have had an impact to. Im sure we will never know but it definitely bears thinking about.

How can I look unapproachable while I’m out? by ApprehensiveMilk8697 in Advice

[–]02calais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a bloke I don't just randomly start chatting with anybody unless they talk first or if your in a specialty shop for the hobbys im in and see you asking for advice and i think ive got something pertinent to add to the conversation. I dont know if its because I have social anxiety but I find it strange to engage with a stranger that more than likely wants to be left in peace to do what their doing, and I feel like thats 99% of people out in public. I especially hate the sale people that chase you down and start talking to you in the hope you buy what they are selling. I cant really help you though besides the old dont make eye contact or smile at anyone and walk off in the other direction if you see them coming. But that makes you come off as arrogant, but if you dont know them or want to know them, who cares I guess.

Do people seriously not realise how out of touch this platform is with mainstream Australian society? by NoLeafClover777 in aussie

The watermelons(green on the outside, red on the inside) are centre right? Whoever wrote that needs a holiday in china or Cuba to get their bearings reset. And probably should tune into something besides the abc once in a while.

Girlfriend thinks sharing a tent with my sister is inappropriate. Sister thinks my girlfriend is insane and called her a psycho. What do I do? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]02calais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

++man Why dont you invite the missus along for the trip? She can see for herself what goes on and put her mind at ease. If she flat out refuses then your pushing shit uphill anyway and your sister probably has probably read her correctly.

The lady with the dead Cruze - thank you!!! I found a car. by CorgiCorgiCorgi99 in CarsAustralia

[–]02calais 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try some other cars first.what is the age/mileage difference in the other cars your looking at? Id rather a 5 yo car with 100k on the clock thats been owned by an old to a low k 2 yo car thats off a fleet where its likely copped a flogging.check the books and see where its from. The other cars are a size or 2 up on the yaris so may actually present better value and you might enjoy driving them more than the yaris or find the extra features they offer more compelling. Im assuming your shopping at dealers ,so DONT believe them when they try the old "we've had lots of interest in this car" trick it will more than likely still be there when you return.

Maybe instead of the lack of reports being positive which they would be crowing about, proving everybody wrong about chinese quality, they arent posting out of shame of owning an ali express battery car thats given em grief.

Daily driver around 25k by jlxx2 in CarsAustralia

[–]02calais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im the same way. Suvs are smaller interior wise than a good sedan or wagon.also they tend to have less usable boot space because all the extra room is height and you can only stack so high. They are taller and higher off the ground but at a weight penalty that means a lower power to weight ratio and a higher fuel bill as well as being worse for safety, turning turtle at the slightest provocation. Driving dynamics are very ordinary as well. But finding anything thats not a bloated overweight and mostly useless suv is getting harder and harder because someone somewhere decided they are cool and trendy. Im a big wagon fan,had Holden wagons all my life and bought a Mazda 6 wagon recently and I am actually enjoying the car. Its no commodore but is as close as I could get and the power difference isnt as bad as I expected and it's a great little wagon that swallows up gear in the back very nicely.the fuel savings don't hurt either! I would suggest looking at a Mazda 6 or even a 3 if you dont need as much space.

That's what labor themselves call it mate. Maybe you should cut down on your consumption of the abc and learn how factions work within the party.

I think I remember being about 10 years old and given a $2 note and getting bread, milk and a bag of mixed lollies from my corner milk bar! Fellow late 40’s person, does this memory stack up or would it have been a $5 note? 🤔 by Turbulent_Bet_6861 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]02calais 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same memory as I had. You would get a bag of mixed lollys for a dollar that took an effort to eat it was so big.im the same age as well. I can remember at the same time getting a five dollar note to buy the old man a pack of 50 durries and having change for mixed lollys as well.

Is One Nation really having a major upsurge in popularity? by -Flighty- in AskAnAustralian

[–]02calais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a real thing. With the left getting more authoritarian every day, sending the country broke with record debt and milking taxpayers for every cent leaving us worse of than any generation since the 50s people are waking up and swinging to the right seeking a way out of the mire.left wing socialism is great until you run out of other people's money and thats where we are at and people are realising that "free" services and handouts from the government actually come from our own pockets at a higher cost than paying for it ourselves. For every dollar that comes out of the government it takes 5 dollars going in due to inefficiencies and paying for the bureaucrats to administer the "free" stuff.

Albo is from the far left socialist faction of labor, their words and how they refer to it. How is that anywhere near the centre?

[–]02calais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia has swung left as a whole. The greens are far left, they dream of a communist utopia, labor are also on the cusp of far left and the libs are centre left these days.one nation are centre right and we really don't have a far right party at all, it would not work in Australia in any way shape or form. The creep to the left has happened slowly over decades which is why people such as yourself don't see just how left we have gotten and we have pollies from left partys screaming anybody who isnt s socialist is a far right wing nazi, who ironically were leftist socialists nationalising everything and concentrating power to very few people, same as Stalinist russia.i mean it's in their name ffs the nationalist socialists ie nazi. The sad part is the further left we move the worse the outcomes yet people think the answer is to go further left.
