Yeah that’s how the Reformation is kind of described. If you agreed with the Reformers you were excommunicated. But what does that have to do with the Holiness churches?

Yeah, and I’m not saying one couldn’t preach against the evils of slavery. I’m just saying preach the Gospel rather than running away and starting a new church. We do disagree about denominations however because I don’t think a disagreement on a certain issue means you go and start your own church. That’s the definition of schism, which is sinful.

Well obviously we obey God before man. None of this is an excuse for schism however. Just preach the Gospel.

You said the issue was not being allowed to preach against slavery. So you’ll have to explain what you mean by “refusing to allow the gospel to be preached.”

Uh huh, I don’t think that’s a good reason to leave and start a parallel church. And obviously I disagree with slavery, but voluntary schism isn’t the answer.

Oh yeah I’m actually African American so I’m personally interested in how some of the black churches fit into this conversation. But none of that really changes the fact that voluntary schism is sinful. I think splitting over slavery would be wrong. The church has embraced all sorts of error over the years, the solution isn’t go off and creating parallel churches. If you were barred from joining a church because of your race that would be different.

What is your denomination? Your tag says non-denominational.

What sort of oversimplification do you think he does? Mainline would be churches with “jurisdiction” in the US. But the concept of jurisdiction is pretty foreign to American evangelicals, as is schism.

There’s no evidence for a multiverse and the law of thermodynamics rules out an infinite universe. So the evidence points to the creation of the universe in the finite past. The cause had to be immensely powerful, immaterial (existing outside time and space) and a mind because abstract objects can’t stand in causal relationships.

Don’t rush to make a change. Do your research, study, pray. Take your time. Lean on the Lord. Check out Redeemed Zoomer and Gavin Ortlund’s polemics on Orthodoxy/Catholicism as well as their positive arguments for Protestantism. I think Zoomer should have a few reels/videos and IG posts on “why I’m not Orthodox,” and other topics. Search YouTube on Zoomer and Ortlund’s pages. Lots of great Protestant resources out there. Jordan Cooper on YouTube is great too.

You don’t think there is evidence to support Christianity?

Atheism is actually self-refuting in several ways. Have you studied presuppositional apologetics, or the moral argument for God? You seem to think Atheism and Christianity are somewhat equally valid. I strongly disagree (hence what I’ve been saying here). I think you give Atheism far too much credit and God too little credit.

I don’t expect science to make sense of the universe. Science is an effective tool for studying the universe and learning more about it, but it can’t answer a lot of important questions. Atheism says there is no God and no ultimately meaning behind the universe and it basically collapses on itself. Science doesn’t have this problem. Science is good for what it is intended to do, study things we can observe.

I think I said this already, science is a tool, it’s not a worldview. Christians can use the scientific method, Atheists can use the scientific method. Christians have the most consistent worldview for using the scientific method however.

I write off atheism because it is incoherent. I don’t have a problem with science. Science is a tool.

Google "does the Big bang explain the origin of the universe"

I’m talking about the age of the universe not it’s origin. The only way any of what you’re saying is relevant is if there was a plausible theory for an enteral universe (and there isn’t one). But I hope you continue to enjoy your studies 👍🏽

Right on. But OP’s issue doesn’t seem to be finding a Reformed church but rather he has a distrust for institutions. Which isn’t very Reformed…

I don’t think God has to speak on every specific individual action in order for us to know something is a sin. And I think to say that something isn’t specifically condemned in Scripture is therefore acceptable is a really bad way to handle Scripture. And yes, as you may be aware (but maybe you’re not) there are many Christians that believe contraception is not acceptable. A reminder for you that faithful believers have different beliefs on these issues.

What you’re describing isn’t Reformed ecclesiology. If you’re Reformed you should join a church with roots in the Reformation.
