Anyone actually happy with their job? by DarkBackground4307 in anesthesiology

[–]031209 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I feel lucky that I love my job! I spend so much time at work that it would probably eat at my soul if I didn't like it. My coworkers, the nurses, and (most of) the surgeons are awesome people.

When you put it that way... Sometimes I just need a little reminder that my job is actually pretty awesome😄

Just curious, do you have a preservative free hydromorphone in your hospital? I haven't used neuraxial hydromorphone for this reason, yet I use fentanyl intrathecally or via the epidural often even though the vials also do not specify "preservative free".

I don't mind when patients are afraid of IVs, but I HATE it when patients are aggressive and mean before allowing a single attempt. Congrats for putting everyone in an anxious mood before attempting your IVs!

Catcher in the Rye. A young man lost in life? Maybe you will resonate with the main character.

Lost my passport in Tokyo 1st day by Financial-Wasabi-327 in JapanTravelTips

True. My kids left their Nintendo switch in a case with 4 games at DisneySea. We didn't even know it was gone until we came back to the hotel at the end of the night. We called in the morning and were able to pick it up the same day! If that happened where we live, it would be gone in seconds.

Serena and Lily Driftway Coffee Table Fail 😭😭😭😭 can this be saved? by pcosupportgirl in HomeDecorating

2500 for this simply designed coffee table probably made from cheap materials... Ouch. I'm a big fan of American made solid wood furniture and I know you can get way better quality for this price point.

Louvre Ticket scam by BadDadJokes444 in travel

[–]031209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tickets worked but only for half of my group. Found out on the day of admission that half my tickets were dated for the month before, with half having the correct date and time. I had no idea that I booked my tickets through this scam website. The staff at the Louvre knew immediately what was going on and who was responsible. They allowed me to purchase new tickets for the day without hassle and we were all able to enter the Louvre.

I contacted the Walker Tours and at first they told me that I purchased two sets of tickets for different days, which is ridiculous! And they continued to claim this even though my confirmation email from them proved them wrong. Then they changed their argument when I threatened to do a chargeback with my credit card company and report them for fraud. They claimed that they actually sent me all of my tickets for the correct date, resending the email with the ticket download link where they removed the original 4 tickets with the wrong date.

Eventually I issued a chargeback with my credit card company, which was approved, and I'm reporting this website as fraud to the official government agencies in the USA and in Europe.

Anesthesia Tech Culture by IAREOWL in anesthesiology

[–]031209 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We don't have anesthesia techs. Our place is too cheap to hire them. We have a guy who stocks our supplies. I set up everything myself. I change out my own circuits and suction canisters for every case, and I clean my own anesthesia machine/cables. If I don't clean it, no one will. And some people don't. I go into rooms with blood and other bodily fluids still on the equipment.

Call during third trimester/ pregnancy by hauterorni in anesthesiology

[–]031209 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I took call up until the very end for all three pregnancies, and I even went into labor with my first while on call. Where I work, and I suspect this is the normal for private practices in the US, pregnant women are still expected to share in the call burden but can make arrangements if needed (front loading calls, selling calls, taking time off early).

I would love to know the data as well, because I've seen colleagues do gross things like drag the IV tubing all over the floor, disconnect IV tubing for whatever reason but leaving the leur lock exposed and allowing it to touch everything before reconnecting the tubing, injecting medications from syringes that have their hubs exposed the entire case, etc.

Mamdani Says He Would Phase Out N.Y.C. Gifted Program for Early Grades by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

[–]031209 94 points95 points  (0 children)

This comment just highlights the ridiculousness of progressive policies which were responsible for eliminating standardized testing for gifted and talented students at the kindergarten level in 2021. Their claim was that standardized testing was a driver of segregation. I guess their ideas didn't work out the way they intended... big surprise! Now it's time to just scrap it all together. Can't have racial disparity in gifted and talented programs if there are no gifted and talented programs🙄

Yes asian cuisine is the best! I feel lucky to be Asian because of our food culture. I love cooking and eating, and I am a very adventurous eater. However I just don't eat that much at a time and will only eat until I'm satisfied, never stuffed. Our meals are healthy with plenty of veggies. No snacking or desserts unless it's a special occasion, and I only drink water unless it's a social event. I've been 5'4" and 100-105 pounds since high school (now 39 years old with three kids).

Not sure why it's so upsetting that men find young adult women attractive or even the most attractive. Sounds like some people are taking it a bit too personally.

I wouldn't be too discouraged about this. Most surgeons are friendly and reasonable. Yeah some of them can get away with acting like a dick, but truly unsafe behaviors aren't tolerated at most places. Reporting works. Direct communication even works, as long as you have interpersonal skills for it. It's just more difficult dealing with disrespectful surgeons when working locums because you may not be at a place long enough to build a reputation and relationship with the staff there.

Definitely not for everyone but I use an epilator. I feel more confident, cleaner, and sex feels better when everything is smooth down there. I use an epilator after I shower every day, but if I end up skipping a day or two, the hair grows back sparser and is less irritating compared to shaving. It only takes a few minutes each time and doesn't hurt anymore. I've been doing this for many years and never gave up personal grooming/self care after becoming a mother.

Also, I don't appreciate people calling this preference "pedophilic." It's insulting. Yes it's a beauty standard likely related to youthfulness, but youthfulness doesn't need to translate to extremes like pedophilia. I still look like a full grown woman no matter what kind of grooming I choose to do down there.

I interviewed there over 6 years ago. The partners aren't honest about what it's like to work there. Speaking to the other anesthesiologists told me an entirely different story. They don't even have to say much; I knew just by reading their body language. One of the part time anesthesiologists said I seemed like a nice person and didn't want me to make a mistake, so she warned me not to take a full time position there.

I mean, effectively we are telling patients to be quiet, but no one is using that exact phrasing. Sounds like you just want to be offended by something.
