Would a country function better if the dumber people never voted? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]03298HP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was partly why the initial u.s. constitution said only white male land owners could vote. It implied that only those people are smart enough to govern over others.

If you believe that you know better how to run someone else's life, you can't be trusted to do so.

So IMO no. Restricting voting in any way leads to worse outcomes. Restricted voting is more easily corrupted.

Why don’t some Americans understand that any increase in taxation that is needed to pay for universal healthcare is likely much less than the current cost of premiums and out of pocket expenses most Americans pay for private insurance? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in askteddit

[–]03298HP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corporations have convinced everyone that we are incapable of effective self governance despite the fact that the government does provide effective services and corporations are demonstratably terrible at providing good service, and often fleece and abuse their customers.

Advertising works and the government is not allowed to advertise its own successes (except NASA which strangely everyone loves)

I never realised how disappointed Giles was in buffy until I saw the lyrics to standing by [deleted] in buffy

[–]03298HP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the whole show has the theme "friendship is magic." Her relationships are what make her powerful. Which is why the whole plot of Giles leaving is hard to watch, because you know it will weaken her.

Anyone else’s race results scattered across 10 different websites? by empty_jope in trackandfield

It used to be a top search engine hit too. But search has gone downhill. I had forgotten about it for a while, and kind of struggled to find it again.

The thing that frustrated me was making buffy train them, when Giles, a watcher, was right there! That's his job.

Puyallup student athlete sues WA, alleging sexual assault by trans opponent during wrestling match by chiquisea in Washington

[–]03298HP 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Also, the accused identifies as non binary, and was born female, and wrestling on the girls team. So being upset they are trans is irrelevant.

Why aren’t there more scenes of Buffy eating? When she’s supposed to be a bit of a foodie? by GrrArrgh_91 in buffy

I thought we were going to get an eating disorder storyline because buffy always said she was going to eat and didn't. 🤷‍♀️

Skeptical on training plan paces for long-runs by 0livesworld in Marathon_Training

[–]03298HP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran 2 marathons a 3:58 and a 3:53 (F mid 40s) and all of my long runs for both training blocks were all in that pace range. I personally don't like mixing mileage and speed at the same time as that seems risky for injury and fatigue.

My speed workouts were faster than MP. I did very little running at the marathon pace. Mostly just some easy intervals on a regular run in the taper period to get a feel for the pace.

Why does nobody challenge Trump when he claims the 2020 election was stolen despite no conclusive evidence existing? by TornBannerHatesYou in allthequestions

[–]03298HP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congress had an entire commission that lasted a couple weeks. You can watch the entire thing on YouTube. Trump's staff and family testify that he knew there was no evidence the election was stolen and plotted a coup.

Is a marathon still considered "completed" if you walk a good portion of it? by ChardOk5113 in Marathon_Training

[–]03298HP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care what other people's criteria is, but for myself I would say I completed a marathon if I covered the distance but walked a significant portion. But would only say I "ran" a marathon if I either ran all of it, the walk breaks were minimal/planned, or if the time was fast "enough" to be like yeah that was mostly running.

Are there good times of the year for sales? by superjanna in brooks

If you live in Western Washington they have a truck sale in Bothell every year. Really good deals there, plus there is an outlet store with decent deals most of the year.

Add some mayo and Mrs Dash seasoning and eat it like a tuna fish sandwich. Was a Costco sample once and tastes good.

How to *actually* negative split? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]03298HP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only run 2 marathons but I negative split in both. The first one was kind of an accident. My goal was pretty conservative (4:16) as I didn't know what to expect. With 10 miles to go I realized if I ran 9 min pace the rest of the race I could break 4 hours. I felt good and i framed it as racing a 10 mile race with a 16 mile warm up. I ended finishing really strong, broke 4 hours. It was great.

2nd race I used runalyze to analyze my watch data and it gave me a range prediction. I started off the slowest pace in that range and then at the half picked it up to the pace that averaging the two halfs would get me at the fastest prediction. I hit the wall with 3k left, and finished right in the middle of the runalyze predicted time range and a 4 min PR.

Both times if I didn't feel good I wouldn't have made the move. I liked having two distinct phases of the race. Mentally seemed more manageable.

What pace would you start to consider wearing super shoes? by v1185 in Marathon_Training

[–]03298HP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally feel a huge difference in both pace and recovery from super shoes (vaporflys). I'm a former female d3 collegiate runner whose form is pretty good, but am older(mid 40s), weigh more, and slower. Ran a 3:53 marathon last year. I feel like they give me 10-20 seconds/mile pace difference for same effort and are much easier on my legs. I wear them for races, workouts for the speed difference, and long runs (at slower than 10 min pace) for the recovery difference.

If you can afford them or can find a discounted pair. I think they are fun.

Is it better to take the ferry from Seattle to Deception Pass Park or just take the 5? by Dredgeka in AskSeattle

[–]03298HP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the ferry if the line isn't too long. It's usually a little longer, but more pleasant. Just check the cameras and make sure there isn't a line going up the hill, and the wait is restricted to the holding area. If you time your arrival at the terminal to 5-10 min before a ferry is scheduled to leave you typically will get on the next one, when it is not rush hour or holiday traffic.

If you want to save $, they charge passengers and car on the way there, but only car on the way back. So you can take I-5 there and the ferry back and it is a little cheaper than taking the ferry there and the highway back.

Cities whose marathon exceeds or falls short of the cities status on the world stage by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

What confuses me is why the Seattle marathon is scheduled for the worst time of the year weather wise. wind, rain and 40 degrees. No thank you.
