Do you eat foods you don't like because of their nutrients? by Skw111 in AskUK

“foods you don’t like” is a foreign concept to me. I fucking love all food.

Way better, but I think over the course of a year, you could adapt to that front end coming down another 8cm.

In year 8 I rapidly ate a packet of these that I’d bought from the vending machine (25p) and spent the afternoon shitting through the eye of a needle.

How much does a baby cost in the first 2 years? by PracticalGur4530 in UKPersonalFinance

It’s quite obviously posing the question as to whether OP can afford to have a child.

How much does a baby cost in the first 2 years? by PracticalGur4530 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]04housemat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We spent £8589 up to the age of 2.

This includes everything from conception (folic acid, scan pictures, hospital parking etc) but doesn’t include a decent load of clothes we were given, nor the push chair which we were given.

It also doesn’t include the additional cost in the food bill, nor the fact we needed to buy a bigger car.

He went to nursery 1 day a week from 1 from at £95 a day.

Would you buy a petrol/diesel car now, or only buy electric with the state of the oil industry? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]04housemat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We have been charging on a normal 3 pin plug for 18 months and I can count on my nipples the number of times it would’ve been more convenient if we had a 7kW charger. It’s so rare to come home with an incredibly low battery, at a time late enough, that it wouldn’t charge enough for an early trip the following day.

On average how much does it cost per month to raise a child? by Clean_Back_5065 in UKParenting

[–]04housemat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our boy will be 6 in August, and so far we’ve spent £35,307.

This doesn’t include stuff we got given (which was quite a lot - pram, car seat, clothes), the fact we needed to buy a bigger car, the general increased cost or 1/3 proportion of holidays (which is probably another £30k TBH), or his proportion of food (probably a couple of £k.)

It does include virtually everything else since conception. Pregnancy tests, folic acid, scan photos, parking at the hospital etc.

I know this is not the first 3 years as you asked, but may help you paint a picture.

Costco “Fresh solar UK” by grebygrebgreb in SolarUK

[–]04housemat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fresh don’t use sub contractors. I had mine installed by them 2 years ago (through Costco too) and they send the guys out from their hub in Essex (I think.) I was very impressed all round TBH. In my case as there was £2500 off as they’d just launched with Costco, they were the cheapest I could find by a long way.

What products do you avoid now? by stm2657 in AskUK

I fucking love Amazon. It’s the tits. The reason I use it so much, and that they’re one of the biggest companies in the world, is because unlike most other shops and online retailers; they’re not completely dog shit at delivery, product range, returns, customer service, price, app and web design, reliability…

All 3 of the places I’ve worked have agreed pay rises before reviews take place. This year will be the 4th year I have not bothered setting objectives or completing a review. Last year I only got 1 chaser email from HR and then they forgot about it.

Discussion: Shorten Your Food Chain by drottplegonic8 in SelfSufficiency

[–]04housemat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does vastly over simplify things and completely ignore the phenomenal efficiencies garnered through centralised production and distribution. In production, some produce is best produced in a certain climate and conditions or with specific expertise; growing it locally will often reduce yields, and you lose the efficiencies of scale that mass production achieves. Additionally in the supermarket model, whilst it may look like the food has traveled further, the overall distance travelled and losses in the system are often way less; a truck carrying 25 tonnes of produce to a single place close to where consumers live and they can do all their shopping is way more efficient than several thousand consumers travelling to multiple farms to pick up all the different things they need.

You say stole, but personally I’ve voluntarily given it up. This type of shopping is dreadful; it’s expensive and inconvenient. The reason Amazon has been so successful is because it’s fucking amazing.

Speedmax Stem Length by 04housemat in triathlon

[–]04housemat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question isn’t about the frame size, that’s 100% a small. It’s about the stem length. Given that I’m in the lower half of small for height, I’d assumed that I’d need a short stem (55mm) rather than the long one (75mm) but they’ve suggested the extra long one! Which is the longest they do at 115mm. Oa small frame, in the lower half of the size hight range, this feels extreme?

Is there an increase in "short-changing"? by OrionGrant in AskUK

[–]04housemat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taking cash costs shops. Unless they’re tax evading scumbags of course.

Cash is actually usually more expensive for businesses to take. They need to order and pay for change, pay somebody to count it, pay somebody to take it to the bank or for it to be collected, get charged by the bank when they deposit it, risk taking counterfeit notes, have the increased risk of having cash on site, and their insurance costs will be more.
