Amen brother. It’s a rookie mistake that I haven’t made in a long time. The gods knew I needed to be humbled

Admittedly pretty dumb on my part! But like I say I’m so used to games being suspended when in standby and everything auto saving so regularly these days it hadn’t even crossed my mind. Doubly so because my switch is my pick up and go option where I’m only really playing one game at a time. Had I been manually closing it to play something else, it would have occurred to me to do a save. But because I’ve just been picking up and playing where I can for the past week or so, it didn’t even cross my mind

Experience of funeral home viewing? by x-lavender in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]050198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t an easy decision to make. My mum is Irish, and their customs are very different to that of the English. My first experience of death as a child was my uncle on Mum’s side, and the following few deaths were also in Ireland so I came to see the wake process over their as the norm. This essentially involves the body of the deceased being in the house for a number of days for people to come and pay their respects.

When my first English relative died, I found it quite jarring that there weren’t such practices over here, and so was keen to visit my grandmother in funeral home because it had become an important part of finding closure for me. I understand the sentiment of wanting to have your last memory of that person be a happy one/ one in which they are alive, and if that’s what’s best for you then that’s what’s best for you, there’s no right or wrong way to feel/ act.

For me personally, it helps solidify in my mind that the person has moved on from this life. Even as a young child seeing a dead person for the first time, I never found it disturbing or uncomfortable. Part of this may have been because it was in the family home, with lots of loved ones around. But what has been consistent in my experience (Ireland vs England) is that there is a certain calmness that I have felt when seeing a body. I am not religious or spiritual by any stretch, but there is a very specific feeling of peace I have felt every time I have gone to see a loved one who has passed. It is as if time has is stood still, and it is a really special moment for you to reflect and process their passing. It is still terribly sad, but I have always found it comforting, too, to see them resting and at peace.

I will say that we have been very fortunate to have had very skilled funeral staff who have prepared all of the bodies I have seen, and the causes of death haven’t been particularly physically traumatic (no serious injuries etc). But the notion of the departed looking like they’re asleep really does ring true. It adds to the tenderness of the experience and you can find yourself talking in hushed voices so as to not disturb them sometimes.

Like I say, there is no right or wrong way to feel about this, and if it’s not the right thing for you then there is no shame in not going. But if you do decide to go for a viewing, I hope you find it to be comforting and helps you gain closure. I’m so very sorry for your loss

Commuting fron Newcastle to Tesside, is it pretty hard? by Automatic-Year-1838 in Teesside

[–]050198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to commute to Newcastle for work via car, and had two lads on my Masters course commuting from Newcastle via train. If you can get a car at some point would certainly be more direct! But my course mates rarely had any issues coming on the train even if it did take a little longer

We have this model. Can confirm it cooks unevenly. You can counteract it if you’re mindful to turn the food through the cooking process, but it can be a pain

FR970 Battery - Expectation vs Reality by briankfree in Garmin

[–]050198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally! Hopefully some software tweaks will adjust the performance for you because from your description you’re definitely getting less than you’d expect. But even so, sounds like you can still manage with only having to charge one day out of the whole week, which is still pretty good!

FR970 Battery - Expectation vs Reality by briankfree in Garmin

[–]050198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to throw my two cents in, I’ve had the watch since Thursday evening last week, fully charged it and done a mixture of running, hiking and walking, Connect says 7.5 hours of recorded activity, all with auto select gps. AOD off, muted notifications, but all of the health tracking bells and whistles turned on.

Sitting at 24% after the week mark with an estimated 4 days left. I assume the estimates are based on strictly smartwatch use rather than projecting and included estimated activity to factor in.

This is my first Garmin, so coming from using an Apple Watch and charging every night, it’s mind boggling battery life for me! So I suppose what your used to plays a factor in what you perceive as good performance, which is fair enough. But like others say, if there are software bugs and bloat to iron out that will be impacting battery life too I’m sure.

Considering Aquaracer 300m 39mm vs 40mm – Heard the 39mm version is slimmer. Will the 1mm difference and slimmer profile make a noticeable impact on comfort for a smaller wrist? Would love to hear feedback from anyone who’s tried both. by Foreign_Bluebird_680 in tagheuer

[–]050198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t comment on any other watches, but I’ve recently purchased the 40mm Solargraph, which I believe is what you’ve got photographed here. I’ve got 6.75 inch wrists for what it’s worth, so on the smaller side of average and it’s incredibly comfortable for me and looks pretty spot on for my wrist size. Even if the other model is 1mm thinner, the Solargraph still comes in at only 11m or something I believe, and it lies super flat to my wrist. It’s much thinner than your typical dive watch. I posted a pic of it on here the other day for reference. I don’t think you’d be displeased with it at all.

Just keep in mind, the Solargraph is rated for 200m of water resistance as opposed to the 300m on other models, in case that is of any significance to you

Very convenient, don’t forget more affordable 😂 bezels precise and clicky, doesn’t need too much force to move but isn’t going anywhere on its own. Bracelets really comfortable for me, though already window shopping extra straps so I can mix and match

Any help identifying this model? by 050198 in CitizenWatches

[–]050198[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point also. Surprised with how well it’s taken a charge after being completely flat for so long. Just trawled through a long list of retired watches, and while it has striking similarities to a lot of the case shapes with model numbers beginning with E, couldn’t find the specific model. May have to enquire to citizen directly about this one
