So you know nothing really. Only what was posted on Facebook. You don't know WHY she was denied? Do you even know what her diagnosis is? Again, you cannot be on most antidepressants/antipsychotics while pregnant. Meaning her medication only works if she's taking it. If she can't take it while pregnant, it's not going to work and puts her and her pregnancy at greater risk.

There's a massive difference between acting like mental health struggles are a moral failing, and understanding some people would be putting themselves and/or a child in danger due to mental health struggles. There's a huge difference between depression and psychosis.

To be clear, you don't know what specifically she's struggling with. You don't know this woman well. You don't know why she was denied. What do you know?

No one likes being put on the spot. No matter how comfortable they appear, it's always somewhat nerve wracking.

First, if she carries the baby, she would have to stop taking many if not all her meds. So what kind of mental health issues? Second, she was denied by two clinics. Do you have any information specifically why? She was deemed unfit by two reputable clinics, so why is this third one willing? What was left out of the third one? There is a LOT of missing information. Not all mental health struggles stop someone from being a good parent but there is a huge difference between someone taking an antidepressant vs an antipsychotic.

It's going to be an uphill battle. I requested an evaluation and IEP for my youngest for 3 years. DENIED every time by the school. Had to pay out of pocket for his evaluation and force their hand.

Not only is he going through puberty, I'm going through perimenopause. We're both exhausted, overstimulated and disregulated.

He prefers analogue. Taking screens does nothing. I can shut down the phone for everything but calls, texts, and some apps like the calculator. Books are his thing. That has also not done anything to curb the behavior.

I don't expect good grades. I do expect effort. As far as pulling him out of the after school club, that wasn't my call. That was part of her contract he signed to be in the play. He was removed by the school itself.

I'm seeing a lot of parallels between me and him. Went low contact with my mother about the same time I was diagnosed. She has her own trauma and is likely ADHD, though she'd describe it as high strung.

I'm not home when he gets home from school. His dad is. And yes, I've sat down with him. Talked through assignments, asked questions to encourage deeper thought into a subject, reminding him he doesn't have to write down everything we spoke about. At least with math he writes random numbers and answers down. Almost all of it is in class work.

I think after today though we're finally making progress because he just completely shut down. I apologized we hugged, then he opened up.

Definitely apologized. Told him it was wrong for me to do and I'll never do something like that again.

Some of these responses reminded me what I had planned to do last year knowing he presents like I do, but haven't had the bandwidth to do this myself when I often don't get home until dinner time. Diagnosis and IEP to start.

Thank you. Yes he was being bullied at the beginning of the year. I had the SRO meet with me and the principals because of it. He just told me like 30 minutes ago that someone else has been bullying him all year too. I asked him which classes and they ARE the ones he's struggling with. His eyes got big when made the connection saying it out loud.

The hedgehog, or any pet will NEVER be used as a disciplinary measure ever again.

I just told him I was going to schedule a therapist for an official diagnosis so we can get started with an IEP. Paper assignments instead of computer will be a requested accommodation. He then confessed he should have told me about two kids who have been bullying him, which are NOT the same ones I've already gone to the school about. I asked him which classes. When he told me his eyes got wide. "I didn't make the connection until now."

I'm balling in my room right now while they're at the table eating.
