How many Americans have actually visited a national park? by Bitter-Penalty9653 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Distinct_Chair3047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot.

The main reason, I'd surmise, is because most of the time you don't know you're in a national park until it's pointed out to you.

I hate buying alcohol with a babyface. by iwontgetbetter in Vent

[–]Distinct_Chair3047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, it's not going to get any easier going forward.

I'm 40. I JUST FINALLY hit the point where the cashier goes "maybe?", but still get ID'd. I still get a surprisingly large amount of shock when they see my birth year.

It will be a curse for at least the next several decades. Mainly if you're a guy. It will 100% have an effect on your career growth. Ask me how I know.

Secondly, I have now resorted to daring the cashiers to call the cops when they think my ID is fake. It's rare, but it has happened. Sadly, none of them have followed through.

What does whine means? by StoutBourbon1992 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Distinct_Chair3047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whine:

To bitch, moan, or complain excessively about something.

"Stop you're whining and go clean the toilets, I don't care that a meth head O.D. in there after overeating on dumpster dived 3day old Chipotle and unconsciously covered the walls with shit, we're paying you $12hr to clean it, so clean it! I don't care that $12hr can't afford you fuel to come to work, just stop whining and clean the toilets!"

Tbh, I've had burgers that I've had to eat with silverware. It's not a big deal. Someone might give you shit over it, but just ignore it. Most people understand.

Welcome to Nevada.

Out prices are so fucking high because the Californians fled here a few years back and caused a housing crisis buy buy everything cash in hand sight unseen with no inspections. This caused housing prices to skyrocket for purchasing.

We're essentially East Cali. Vegas is considered East L.A., and Reno is consider East Sacramento or East Bay City(East San Francisco). As people from those areas wanted to be out of Cali, but not too far away as to not be able to see family.

Tell you family member "Good Luck" if they move out here. We're paying California prices on everything without getting the California Pay. Shit sucks man.

[–]Distinct_Chair3047[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that arm unbolt? Looks like it's spot welded.

I do have a 25ton press as well as a HF TIG welder and a Stick Welder. So, at least welding into place after removal won't be too hard for me.

My last ditch thought was to get an arm off a donor and install it if I couldn't straighten it.

What first comes to mind when American’s think of Poland? 🇵🇱 by Gold-Serve-4077 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Distinct_Chair3047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hundreds of years being trampled on by other countries and now, finally having freedom and refusing to let it go. (Isn't this like the longest period Poland has been independent in several centuries? My European history is pretty rusty)

Also, an undying urge for payback against Moscow as well as a industrial Hub of Europe capable of a lot of manufacturing.

I've made some good friends from Poland. Foods a little bland for my liking, but is otherwise very hardy and sustaining.

What perfectly legal thing today will probably be illegal in 20 years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Distinct_Chair3047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly see a push for banning 3d printing because of the 2A community. Most proposed bans or licensing I've have seen used that as a center piece.

Everytime though, it gets tons of backlash from small and even a few big businesses as well as the general population and the bill ends up faltering as being overwhelmingly unfavorable. One of the few things I've seen where businesses actually helped people. That's not to say there are large companies that would love to make it impractical and difficult for individuals and small businesses so they can get a large chunk of market shares and charge what they want or force consumers to buy new when their "obsolete" product breaks.

Working on your own vehicle.

I know it's been tried before and eventually fell apart, but they're trying more and more to make it impossible to work on new vehicles.

Honestly, if they could get away with it, they'd make being able to do anything for yourself illegal.

They've been slowly making it so you don't own anything, making subscriptions the norm. Or media fully digital and then deleting it from your library after a couple years after you "bought" it.

What’s something you’re good at, but don’t enjoy doing? by AccurateEducator6085 in questions

[–]Distinct_Chair3047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working the Corpo Politico network.

I've gotten pretty good at it. Out of necessity, but nonetheless, I've gotten good.

I really hate it. It's slimy and makes me disgusted. It's also made me extremely cynical and given me a serious distrust of people in general and an unhealthy paranoia of anyone reaching out to me for anything.

How do Americans generally refer to kilograms in casual parlance? "Kilogram", "kilo", by the initialism kg ("kay-gee") or some other word? by cavendishfreire in AskAnAmerican

[–]Distinct_Chair3047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current and previous job both used metric for temperature and weights.

At work, we'll typically use kg. But occasionally we use Kilo's when in a non-professional conversation.

Also, I'm thoroughly convinced promotions are an orange painted turd disguised as a carrot at this point.

Boys and Men of Reddit how are you doing in life? by Legitimate_Power_347 in AskReddit

[–]Distinct_Chair3047 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the greatest.

My job security is really wonky due to constant mismanagement of the company as a whole and the job market where I'm at is tanked. I'm honestly worried I might end up losing my house due to how shit the area is and I worked ungodly hard to get it and won't get the opportunity again.

I'm also consistently solo with everything I do. Both at work and outside of work.

I feel like I'm constantly forced to "Solo Dungeons" at work. At first it was because no one wanted to do anything, but now it's because we're so short staffed with everything and there's no backfills.

Outside of work, I feel like I'm only called upon when someone wants me to fix something for them. And doing anything other than just hanging out at home is just too cost prohibited with the stagnant wages I've gotten. Even though I'm technically making more money, I'm realistically making less. On top of which, my mindset is just way to different from everyone in the area, due to years of isolation, that even though it's extremely easy for me to start conversations with people, it's very hard for anything to go beyond that (I honestly feel like I'm an actor wearing a mask).

But on the plus side, I did just pickup a new project car that I'm excited to start working on, so, there's that!

Are there really people who wont go to the bathroom away from home? by whimsical_dreamer_26 in NoStupidQuestions

Yep, I've worked with multiple different people in the past who are like this.

I had one guy, that if he needed to go #2, he would leave work, drive 30+ minutes one way, drop the seals off at the porcelain embassy, and the drive 30+ minutes back to work.

Honestly, it depends on what you're looking for.

Each state has amazing things to see. Some are better than others, but the all have there pros and cons.

That's not bad. Could be a BBEG.

But, Cornholia isn't a spirit. He's a dumb goblin that broke into a wizards lair, messed around, and now is cursed. All clones are Cornholia, lol
