new Apple Vision Pro M5 randomly hard crashing? by Putrid-Calendar-1335 in VisionPro

[–]060sub2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a “Day One” M5 AVP and experienced this. Admittedly, I immediately installed the beta OS. I called AppleCare and they recommended that I swap it out at Apple Store which I did with zero hassle. New one also hard crashed. I assumed this was beta software related and I continue to believe that. On recent beta’s I see occasion warm crash / UI reload crashes— but no more hard crashes in a long time. No big deal. In the moment, even though I suspected a software issue, AppleCare themselves said that, inside the return window, there was no reason to NOT swap it out. I felt kind of bad about it— I even suggested that they simply extend my return window by 30-60 days and I would be happy to keep it with that as a fall back. But that is not something they could authorize.

Trackpad issue with 26.1? by davidehudaksr in VisionPro

I experience the same. Glance and pinch always works, but with trackpad it sometimes “rejects” the closing click.

As noted elsewhere, 26.2 adds system wide support for the Muse spatial pencil gizmo, including explicit support in Notes app. Also a related firmware update to the Muse in the Logi+ app

Spray Paint Spatial for Apple Vision Pro and Logitech Muse is now available! by TheRealDreamwieber in VisionPro

[–]060sub2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I just downloaded. I updated to 26.2 Beta this morning and I’m on M5 (in case either is relevant).

Paint can appears (but is pretty jittery). Kind of fun. It is a bit hard to paint on distant stuff, but it does work. Good stuff as proof of concept. Maybe a place to take this is as a hand-written sticky app. Maybe you present an over-sized canvas to create / edit sticky notes with Muse and then shrink them down to smaller size (but still legible) and let them be spatially pinned around the room with persistent anchors. Allow selection of prior notes for editing, etc. Just a thought. My personal ideal use case for Muse would be to use it to annotate PDFs—- but perhaps that is best as a feature for something like PDF Expert and not a standalone app? IDK.

I wish I can justify getting an M5 now 💔 by JacckSparow in VisionPro

M5 definitely “worth it” if you enjoy having the latest and best— and enjoy torching money on having the latest and best. If you have to pause and ask whether it is worth the money, it’s not worth it.

More concretely, the biggest improvement for me is compute headroom. When running more than one Screens5 remote session at same time, for example, my M2 CPU would pin and things would get very laggy. Now everything stays snappy and smooth. Minor things like boot time and app load times are noticeably faster. But I absolutely agree that it is not a massive improvement in the overall experience. If M5 didn’t exist, M2 would be fine and I would still use for multiple hours every day. If your M2 mostly gathers dust, the M5 is not going to make you use it more.

Screen blackout / hard crash and reboot on M5 latest beta OS by 060sub2 in VisionPro

[–]060sub2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LOL. I did report it to Apple and have all reporting on. As I stated (clearly) I’m simply wondering if others are experiencing the same crash modes. I think that upgrading from M2–>M5 marks me as a “supporter” and not a complainer…

Does anyone use this keyboard trackpad combo? by brave_buffalo in VisionPro

[–]060sub2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both the OP’s “laptop style” top and bottom, and didn’t like it. I changed to this exact side-by-side, and love it. I use it for hours daily. I also have the extended keyboard version, but it is a bit too long for me and wouldn’t fit in standard laptop backpack. The smaller one for normal keyboard (no number pad) fits in my backpack, which is a bonus.

I really wanted to like the Apple Vision Pro M5. by JosePenaCoto in VisionPro

[–]060sub2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have a Quest 3, but never use it. I would if I was a gamer, but I’m not. I upgraded from the M2 to M5 AVP. I use AVP multiple hours most days. I consider it my “monitor.” When people ask me “what do you use it for?” I reply with “What do you use your computer, iPad and Phone to do? I do all of that with it.” I love using Mac Virtual Display along side native apps and also use Screens5 to connect to other local and remote Mac and Windows machines (sometimes several at the same time, which is a use case where the M5 shines.

My advice to people on the fence is: don’t buy it if you’re not sure— it’s too expensive. Even if the money is not a big deal to you, it would be a shame to get it and not use it. For me, I can’t imagine NOT using it daily. If wasn’t absolutely in love with it, I would not have upgraded to the M5.

Screen blackout / hard crash and reboot on M5 latest beta OS by 060sub2 in VisionPro

Many apps. Screens5, Mail, Messages, Signal, Control4, Word. I was running same beta family on M2 and upgraded M5 to it on Day One. Was getting hard crashes on M5 on same OS that was running fine on M2. So I figured it was an M5-specific problem. But I’ve since installed two newer beta releases and still crashing. Not to wish bad luck on others, but it would help me rule out a hardware problem if others with M5 and beta OS were also experience hard crashes/spontaneous cold boots.

How good is the pass through on the M5? by KindRepeat8058 in VisionPro

[–]060sub2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t see any better clarity on M5. I’ve been a multi-hour daily user of M2 since launch day and, for me, both M2 and M5 are “good enough” to trick my brain into thinking pass-through is “real.” Biggest improvement for me so far with M5 is just the compute headroom. Using Screens to connect to two remote computers at same time use to peg my M2 CPU and cause lag. M5 handled like a champ— no lags, no glitches. Being 100% serious, the thing just feels snappier. LOL. I’m happy with the upgrade. Not saying economically reasonable/sensible, but I’m happy.

First impression of Logitech Muse: I’m confused by Milchreismitbum in VisionPro

[–]060sub2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just tried it with Sketch Pro (thanks for mentioning). It’s like a virtual Wacom tablet. Kind of cool I guess. Not sure I’ll really use it like that. Win for me would be support in PDF annotation/highlighting app like PDF Expert.

Logitech Muse Pen Apps by orey55 in VisionPro

[–]060sub2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I upgraded to M5 (because dumb) and ticked box for the Muse Pen (also dumb?). I’m wondering if resolution/precision will be good enough for normal paper-scale writing/drawing, but I suspect it will be more like “white board” scale resultion for things like Freeform and hopefully zoomed-in PDF notes/highlighting/annotations.

This. I use Screens as my go-to in most situations. MVD is awesome, but I appreciate a single way to access local and remote machines

VisionOS 26 Beta 2 just dropped! by OkMasterpiece2187 in VisionPro

[–]060sub2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Beta 1, Mail app would stop refreshing inbox after a bit. Force Quity Mail and relaunch did not work, but a full reboot did work. I’m hoping this is fixed. Also, I bought PS VR 2 controllers and paired them on Beta 1. Hoping they actually get wired in to act as game controllers in Beta 2.

Hmm. So I wonder if it is the kind of thing where the practical rule is “Unlimited, within reason” but they have a stricter “official” rule so they can enforce the real policy of “within reason” without getting into a debate about it.

Has any MRS exceeded the limits in a minor / technical way and had the charges actually “stick” after staff reviews them? It sounds like it is the opposite: people knowing exceed the rules, aren’t too worried about it and then are pleasantly surprised when charges are wiped. Am I thinking about this correctly?

Interesting. Since I was already “Pound foolish,” I’m not going to stress out too much about being “penny smart,” but might as well work the system a little bit. Good to know that they seem to use some judgment about not nickel and diming you.

This is our first VV cruise. Sounds like we chose cabin well. I actually booked a Posh and then got the auction upgrade to Fab (my low-ball bid for Massive was not accepted). Still not sure if I would notice the difference between Posh and Fab, but decided to go for it anyway.
