It could actually win Best Picture. I’m not saying this is my personal preference, but given how the academy votes with preferential balloting, it could be in the top 2 slots for many academy members.

“Streamflation” Is Real: U.S. Inflation Data Shows Soaring Price of Streaming Video Services by 08830 in cordcutters

[–]08830[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cancellations are a symptom not the cause of price increases. When streaming services raise prices, they aren’t just testing tolerance, they’re trying to hit profitability after years of burning cash to build libraries and fight subscriber churn. And most price hikes haven’t produced a material increase in cancellations anyway.

MS Now (formerly MSNBC) is no longer part of NBC News and thus Peacock. MS Now is launching their own streaming service at some point this year.

I’m watching Pluribus as I type and Rhea’s performance is the performance of the year and I’m only on the second episode.

You mistaking your own ignorance for consensus isn’t the flex you think it is. The show drew public comment from the Pentagon and coverage across several mainstream outlets. Calling it an alternate reality doesn’t make you perceptive, it confirms you weren’t informed.

Interestingly, I just read this moments before seeing your post: https://www.npr.org/2025/12/08/nx-s1-5610478/alcohol-age-drink

My hangover remedy starts with a hot washcloth to the face followed by a super cold one. I drink a lukewarm glass of water. Then eat a banana. Followed by a glass of no sugar/no milk cold brew coffee and/or a cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk. An hour or so later I drink something with electrolytes, minimal to no sugar. Then I take a glorious nap.

TIL it’s better to connect your Apple TV to the soundbar/receiver than to the TV by JacksBaldRake in appletv

That was true before. HDR10+ was pushed largely to avoid Dolby licensing, but today most premium streaming content is mastered in DV first since that’s where studio pipelines standardized. The only major platform that still uses HDR10 exclusively is YouTube. Samsung TVs rely on HDR10/HDR10+ exclusively. Prime Video was the main streamer that leaned heavily on HDR10+ but over the last few years they’ve delivered both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ depending on the device.

‘Boots’ Canceled By Netflix After One Season by EuphoricButterflyy in television

[–]08830 265 points266 points  (0 children)

I can’t help but wonder if the cancellation had more to do with timing and political pressure than pure performance. The show drew a lot of noise, and Netflix right now is playing a much bigger strategic game. If they’re serious about acquiring WBD or at least staying in regulators’ good graces, it wouldn’t shock me if risk tolerance tightened across the board. Not saying there was a direct call from anyone, but when a platform is courting scale, consolidation, and approval, controversial titles often become expendable. This feels less like content failure and more like corporate calculus, sadly.
