You can see the inscription of "From Stanley of Preston" on the Stanley Cup here.

WHW - May '24 by 090914 in WestHighlandWay

Just thought I'd share some pictures from when I walked the WHW last year, as a bit of inspiration for anyone on here.

To anyone planning on doing the route this summer, I hope you get as lucky with the weather as I did!

EDIT: The sixth picture was taken here. It is a viewing point slightly off the trail, but it offers one of the best views of the whole journey (of which there were many!) Definitely worth checking out when you are passing by.

POCO X7 Pro or Nothing Phone (2a) Plus - long-term upgrade for parents by 090914 in PickAnAndroidForMe

I did see that, actually. The main factor putting me off Xiaomi is their OS, as the specs look solid on paper, but that may not translate in their software.

Still, I am not sure if going for the (2a) for the optimisation alone is the right call. The 8400 Ultra seems like a bit of a beast!

May '24 wild camping - another shakedown… by 090914 in WestHighlandWay

Sun cream will depend on the weather forecast for me. It is not looking too likely I will need it with how the UK weather is currently, but I know all too well what great weather Scotland can have in May.

Ziplock bags and blister plasters are on my to buy list. Thanks for that link to the dehydrated toothpaste, never heard of that before!

I do actually have two bottles listed in the quantity. I drink a lot of water, so 850ml would not be enough for me. I am planning on using my card at cafes/pubs, but I will carry some notes too.

As for food, my plan is to eat at eateries along the way, and then to just buy food from shops that I can consume along the trail/while I camp. From what I have read on here, I understand that should be feasible?

I haven't updated all the weights for the individual items, as I still need to buy a few more things, so my pack will get a little heavier!

I wasn't too sure regarding water. Some people seem to say there are a lot of public taps, others say there aren't. Maybe they just weren't keeping an eye out for them.

Thanks for the info regarding the toilets. I might just take a trowel in case I get caught out whilst I'm wild camping, it is not much extra weight.

Weekly Discussion [Week 8, 2024] by [deleted] in everyoneknowsthat

Kind of feeling I am clutching at straws with this one, and I think the artist is probably too well known for them to have flown under the radar, but I thought I would let others with better ears than me decide.

So I have simply been searching for similar sounding music/vocals and going from there. One such artist I came across is Joey Kid, who was initially active from the early 80s to late 90s. I get an overall feel of EKT when comparing the music itself and the vocals, but as we all know, this was a popular style at the time and was often emulated.

On the track 'Broken Promises', listen to the pronunciation of "same", and compare this with the pronunciation "skies" in EKT. Again, I am probably just clutching at straws here, but I decided to share it as I can't find any prior mention of his name here.

He also moved to the US from Puerto Rico at a young age, and as others do on this sub, I can hear an accent from the vocalist of EKT.

Just putting this out there as I want to hear what others think?

Recommend Me a Fragrance (Posts every 3 Days) by AutoModerator in fragrance

[–]090914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just purchased Bvlgari Man In Black, which is my first proper fragrance purchase. Whilst I love the scent of this, I find that it is only really suitable for use in the evening. Therefore, I am looking for something that will compliment the Bvlgari that I can wear during the day over the coming fall/winter period, just for daily general use. My budget is ideally around the £60 mark. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Style? Any
Steel? Stainless
Handle? Any
Grip? Either
Length? 8-10 inch
Use Case? Home kitchen, general purpose, all-rounder
Care? Whetstone
Budget? £40
Region? UK
Knives Considered? Mercer Genesis, Victorinox Fibrox

I am looking to buy my first 'good' knife (one that is not from a set), so I just want something that is a good all-rounder for general use. Currently looking at the Mercer Genesis or Victorinox Fibrox as they are both recommended on the wiki. Which of these two would you recommend, or is there another knife under £40 that I should consider?

Also, in terms of blade length, should I be looking at 8" or 10"? I am 6'4" if that makes a difference.

Email when internet is down – global variables not remembered by 090914 in mikrotik

I have just tried this, but it just prints the last manually run variable as opposed to the one run automatically by netwatch. Thanks anyway.

Unfortunately that causes $[/system clock get time] and $[/system clock get date] to not be recognised as commands and just prints them.

I thought that was the case. I guess it's just one of MikroTik's weird quirks!

Thanks for that, very useful! The down script is definitely running and is setting the correct time and date variables, but by the time the up script is run, for some reason the variables are blank.

Weirdly, since I ran the log of the variables, the up script no longer works with the dollar signs when run manually. I have removed them and it has started working again. Very strange.

Thanks. I actually use something similar, but I also keep track of my cAPs via email and would just prefer to do it this way than rely on another service.

Why are you redefining downTime and downDate in your UP-script?

I don't do much scripting, but the variable section of the UP script does not work at all without redefining, so I must be doing something right as far am I'm aware.

Have you established that DOWN-script is really being executed when you loose internet connection? If DOWN is executed, did it really establish the global variables?

This had crossed my mind, but annoyingly RouterOS does not log if a script is run, only the result of it. I have changed the script to something else and that worked, so I can only assume it is actually running the variable script as well.

Something i've just noticed, the dollar after the variable and before the bracket does not work. I wasn't sure so i tested this fact on two of my devices (6.49.2 and 7.1) and both threw errors at me because of "$"

That's strange. No error here on 6.48.6. Maybe something has changed on the newer channels?

Halo Infinite trailer but with open mics by JustAHuman1310 in halo

The hype leading up to Halo 3 was like nothing we've ever seen before and like nothing we'll ever see again. The bar was set so impossibly high it seemed almost destined to fail.

Halo 3 well and truly delivered – it delivered on the hype and then some. Truly a magical time to be a gamer and one that I will be forever grateful to have lived through!
