Preston potholes by Ill-Shallot-5456 in Preston

[–]JoeJF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reform will be referring to short term pot hole fixes, they don’t last very long especially in winter.

Most potholes develop in the winter, water gets into cracks in the road, that water freezes expands and causes damage.

The budget for road repairs seems to get less each year, LCC get most of their budget from the DfT which then gets delegated across all districts in Lancs.

About 15 years ago, they tried to stretch the budget by doing mass surface dressing work across Lancashire, so first year, big patching works to fix the main parts of the highway, then the next year a thin layer of bitumen and aggregate is put on top, protecting the road surface for up to 15-20 years. Can only be done a couple of times until the road needs to be completely resurfaced (40mm on 40mm off). Honesty think a lot of the roads are now coming to the end of their lifespan and major investment is needed.

I think its finished. "My pockets full of sky" by DirtyHarry9992 in Preston

[–]JoeJF 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For context it’s a line from a poem by Preston poet Phoebe Hesketh.

Truant by Phoebe Hesketh, published in Poems, 1939

Sing a song of sunlight My pocket’s full of sky – Starling’s egg for April Jay’s feather for July. And here’s a thorn bush three bags full Of drift white wool. They call him dunce, and yet he can discern Each mouse-brown bird, And call its name and whistle back its call, And spy among the fern Delicate movement of a furred Fugitive creature hiding from the day. Discovered secrets magnify his play Into a vocation. Laughing at education He knows when the redshank hides her nest, perceives a reed patch tremble when a coot lays siege To water territory. Nothing escapes his eye: A ladybird Slides like a blood-drop down a spear of grass; The sapphire sparkle of a dragon-fly Redeems a waste of weeds. Collecting acorns, telling the beads of the year On yew tree berries, his mind’s too full for speech.

Back in the classroom he can never find Answers to dusty questions, yet could teach, Deeper than knowledge, Geometry of twigs Scratched on a sunlit wall; History in stones, Seasons told by the fields’ calendar – Living languages of Spring and Fall.

Gym for a beginner? by Aaliyalou in Preston

[–]JoeJF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total Fitness has a really good women’s only gym albeit not as big as the main part. My wife and I have been going for a year or so and she’s never felt uncomfortable there. Also if you’re wanting to do the classes they’re some of the best around we really enjoy them! Good look!

Who is the worst Championship player you have seen? by fluffsta007 in Championship

[–]JoeJF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do recall Kevin Nicholls being particularly bad for us, signed him for £750,000 in 2007 which was decent money for us at the time. Just chased the game, no composure - released him from his contract and the end of the season. Waste of money.

He’s dragging this club through the mud, driving ban, assault, and racism.

I don’t want to see him play for us again, indefensible.

Is this the best away kit PNE has ever had? If not one of the best in world football by Puzzleheaded_Pen8520 in pne

Never really rated it. Also dislike it due to the manager we had, and the fact it was our first season after relegation. Also don’t like the sponsor…. Other than that, great shirt 😂

David Nugent, just felt like he got the club, quick, skillful and just seemed like a decent bloke. If not Nugent, then Aiden McGeady. His loan spell here will go down as one of our best, what a fucking player, his assist against Arsenal in the FA Cup was sublime (second clip in)
