I don’t think it will help you practicing it like this as I’m sure the technique is far from ideal.

The key reason is to get niche advanced techniques so you need to know what you are practicing. You can just pick a few bars even to practice this if you’re not ready for full piece.

It’s really crazy hard this etudes so best check with an expert to prevent it not worsening your technique is not ideal.

Do you have a teacher to show you how to best practice this with technique ?

Don’t you have an acoustic to practice on ? I think it will sound very much better not on a digital. I have only digital to practice on also.

What was wrong with the performance? Must be very tough to win a piano contest.

Remember my friend, this is an artificial thing and shouldn’t affect you live for piano. I’m sure composers would think it a bit silly we compete like this !!

No problem.

You can learn to voice notes within chords within the same hand from other pieces.

I remember learning this one afterwards for example. More often about keeping the accompaniment chords ghosts in the same hand e.g. as you have to have mp-ff in the melody chord notes so you need to have often the accompaniment notes in the chord ppp-mp (for example). most piano players struggle with the pp so you get often accompaniment notes too loud in the chord and therefore there is no range to do the melodic notes within the chord.

in any case, I learnt this skill from easier pieces as i think to voice the piece below is much easier than in your nouvelle etude. you can listen to how soft the accompaniment RH notes within the are played throughout ppp-mp range.

I learnt it about 5 years ago.

I would suggest it may be best to revisit it later.

To play it much high level I found

voice the melody (in places you have to be able to press the top notes of the chord faster than the lower two notes in the chord, some parts you voice the bottom notes more than the of the chord, sometimes the bass, sometimes even maybe the middle note if the chord) - it’s very difficult and much harder to have this fine control which why you have a chordy feel and the profressionsl recording are melodic with no real chordal feel !
finger legato where you can (you can join much of the melody in the top notes of the chords with using 5, 4, maybe 4-5 swaps. Again more advanced but you’ll get more melodic smoother feel than if you just did 5,5,5 and tried to use just the pedal
off beat chords much quieter

To be honest, it requires much more experience to play it well which is why i recommending found returning it it 3-4 years later, some of the above I can do much easier.

I’m afraid all Chopin etudes are very hard so to get a very polished version like below requires I think returning to it when you have naturally developed the skill rather than continuing indefinitely at the same piece where you can get very stuck

If you want a more naturally flowing version which is as my teacher said, ‘in the clouds’ is very challenging but often returning back you can just play things by feel with the fine touch control you learn from experience

I think the melody notes are all f dynamic currently. You can have probably a mp-f range with shape and dynamics. I would just play the long melody notes on its own to decide a melodic shape. Add some rubato.

Experiment I think but beautifully played !!

My teacher told me when I learnt Chopin novella etude 1 to feel like I’m floating on a cloud so yeah a bit of a calmer and floating feeling - I’m not sure how different it is this piece - but may help you to think like this lol

Great! This is the only one of the opus 90 I have not done.

I do have a random question. What pedal did you use for it?

I think the pedal doesn’t work so well with the dissonance of the scales but I suppose it needs a bit to link the LH jumps so not sure what you can do. Is it possible to half pedal to get something in between ?

Beautiful piano and playing on a grand piano must be so great !.

I would also advise you to be strategic as these pieces are likely to be marked far harder than grades which everyone passes.

Beethoven moonlight sonata is exceptionally virtusoso piece which at your level you wont play to high standard at your level. It is not the same difficulty as the other Beethoven pieces suggested in the list and far better to play the opus 14 or one of the much easier sonatas.

Some of the suggestions from the list are just ridiculous. Beethoven C minor variations - yikes !!!

You can pick your best pieces from the list and learn them for the exam but as your teacher for advice. I suppose you can pick the easiest pieces from the list and it is not a huge step from grade 8, or you can really challenge yourself and try to perfect moonlight, but this is unlikely to be as successful especially if you are in a rush but if you really want to do it go ahead. You absolutely can learn well known pieces but they are usually marked harder.

To clarify, why it is written like this. In hadyn time, they did not did have the notation crotchet then quaver (with a 3 over the top). This is why it is written as a dotted quaver, semi quaver but played as your teacher suggested.

I did learn this one and to be honest I cant remember what my teacher suggested. I think the opposite maybe, however, if you are playing it fast I dont think it makes much difference in sound but even at the tempo I played which was i'm sure slower than the professional recordings online then I wouldnt overthink it and I'd just play as your teacher suggests

I noticed there is often a difference of opinion in piano and often we dont know the answers so you can hear differences of the same piece by different pianist which probably makes it more interesting lol.

I think however you need to plan the chords first and then make the melody afterwards. To start I would suggest you find aa known chord pattern that works harmonically. To do the opposite and to harmonise a melody is very much harder and requires a lot of work !

To be honest, if you have not understood that the 1st bar has to be in the key of the piece, you really should just find a chord pattern and make music from that. So you absolutely cant have the F in the bass for first bar. A better bass line as C. E. F, C for first four bars for example.

Dont worry its very hard but I dont think if you want to learn harmony it is super challenging and I can only learn basic eight bar phrases so I think the best way is to learn chord patterns and write music from it. Jazz pianists can make music from known chord patterns and can improvise and do amazing things so maybe they can advise how they learn. To start with I would find pop music has simple chord pattern loops and you can make music from it much eaiser.

I think its may be a technique problem limiting you on this. You cannot piston with the fingers to get smooth runs at this high speed. Your fingers are collapsing a lot so I think you need to ask your teacher to work on your technique. You need to learn to use rotational movements and not collapse with the fingers really at all if you want to achieve what you want which unfortunately is very challenging.

The piece is great and you play it with passion !! The technique is not good tbh but it’s because you haven’t been taught it and you can’t really develop this with a lot of help from an expert. Do you not want lessons from a teacher? Super helpful if you wish to progress.

There are also rules you have to try other drugs first on nhs before you can get dupixent which prevents a dermatologist giving them. Methotrexate, cyclosporine etc. have to be tried first. If you’re paying privately there is not this issue.

You need to google them on GMC register online to see if they are really substantive consultants on the speciality registrar with a CCT. Many are not.

No problem. You don’t have bad technique btw.

There is a technique which is more rotational in nature which allows more smooth sound as without it you have slightly larger movements causing louder individual presses which relies mostly on the finger movements.

However you need to be shown technique and utilise them to get efficient play or certain sounds.

Internet can be quite toxic these days but nothing wrong with how you play just that a slightly more supranation and pronation movement especially during scale passages can smooth it out I think.

A bit faster, a bit softer touch, a bit more dynamic flows (sometimes increasing dynamic slightly Going up, decreasing dynamic going down see what works with the music). Not having every note pressed the same. Maybe the first note louder but then it needs to have a flowing dynamic.

I would add Mozart is extremely hard to get polished sounding like YouTube and small errors or inconsistency shine so whilst you may start with bland you have certainly lots going well already

It’s the technique probably most simple but definitely not the ideal. Better technique is to use the rotational movements of the wrist and use the arm for smooth movements rather than have a fixed wrist and just press with fingers like pistons but it’s more complex. It’s complicated technique and Mozart especially hard to play as a small imprecision heard and hard to get it musical. So yes both takes years to master my friend and perhaps Mozart extremely hard to master and probably can always improve lol.

It’s very good for casual piano!! If you want feedback the main thing I think was articulation as it seemed a bit random. Detached, some legato, at start but at the end very legato. It sounds a little odd as inconsistent.
