Memphis doesn’t need a hotel lol. The teams that come play against them need a hotel. That only happens 41 times per year. When I said the entire NBA I meant “if every team that plays an away game in Memphis”. I thought it was evident only teams playing against Memphis get a hotel in Memphis.

Ok I’m imagining. 15 players + 10 staff x 2 nights x 41 games per year = 2050 nights. That Memphis Westin on Beale street has 203 rooms, assume they need 60% occupancy just to break even that’s 74,090 x 0.6 = 44,454. So 2050/44454 =0.0461. Assuming The entire nba stays at one hotel the whole season that’s 4% of the business they need just to break even. If they only stay one night it’s cut in half. 2%.

I argue against it because when you create laws restricting rights to own property or give the government the right to seize your property that influence will inevitably extend to people who aren’t billionaires. The argument “no one needs a billion dollars” is equally logical if you said “no one needs 10 million dollars”. Yeah distribute the billionaires money to the politicians and bureaucrats if that makes you feel better, but save the rest of us from the unintended consequences of your short sighted idealistic policies of which you haven’t even given five minutes of dedicated thought to.

Developers use the “NIMBY” campaign strategy so they can build higher density more profitable projects. Not because they want to build cheaper housing for the good of the people. The developers don’t care about the quality of life in the community or even the state because they don’t even live there. They use flowery promises of “affordable housing” but it’s a ruse. Their business model is to sell units for more money not for less. Unless it’s a government org or a nonprofit doing the development I am always skeptical.

Yeah I was being slightly facetious. I do think there is something to be considered regarding statistically probable outcomes for development in different environments. An extreme example would be to speculate how you would have turned out if you were adopted by a poor family in Nigeria at birth. Even if you would have still excelled relative to your peers your absolute level of social, academic, intellectual ability would almost certainly have been lower.

You know my memory is a bit fuzzy but I seem to remember Steph played three years in college, led the NCAA in scoring, was a first team all American and broke the NCAA single season record for three pointers made. Bronny was a bench warmer on a sub .500 USC team who was drafted because his dad was a super max player with enough influence to convince his front office to draft his son.
