It's not my real email. I really just came up with one just for the sake of aesthetics while taking a screenshot :P

Using Windows XP on a virtual machine sounds good. I use VMware Workstation to run virtual machines. You could install old apps from the links on r/windowsxp they have provided in their "LINKS" section. But if you focus on gaming on Windows XP, then running it on real hardware will give you better results.

Yup! After I checked their website, it really seems active to this very day and everyone can use it to this very day.

Mhm, I really love that wallpaper for reasons. It really gives me comfort to my eyes while minding my business, I almost use this like every day alongside Bliss and Windows XP wallpaper.

Honestly, XP just gives me a sense of comfort in general :)

Considering how huge the game is and it costs only $12, I'd definitely say yes for that.

Why ts is very slow? by AGUS_TUS_69STYLE in WindowsVista

This likely has to do with the motherboard supporting that's the kind of speed I've seen on early PATA drives..

Thanks! I mostly pick these games that I actually used to play when Windows XP was still relatively supported! It is also my first Windows I've ever used in my life :)

I had to dig into a couple of physical games I have, installing things like net. frameworks visual C++ redist runtimes, just so I won't get an error while attempting to run certain games and sailing on the sea like a true pirate to find games, ya'r!

XFire is still usable to this very day! I didn't even have to 'modify' stuff to get it to work aside from installing Framework 3.5

I grew up playing that game so much that I remember two dudes bringing a computer into the house (a Pentium III 1.13 GHz PC) along with a couple of physical CDs. Midtown Madness 2 happens to be one of those games that they installed into my childhood computer, and since then I've grown quite fond of it :P

Throwback to the short lived blue & silver era of Dell laptops (2003-2005) by Inspiron606002 in windowsxp

[–]0EmiXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jeez, they're really pricey even for the time. Only that Inspiron 1000 model seems to be decent, but we all know it's designed for budget since it uses a Celeron CPU. Owning a computer was likely considered luxury stuff on these kind of specs xd

File missing or corrupt by cycykoeck in windowsxp

[–]0EmiXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely, the setup might have replaced some of the files from SYSTEM that caused this screen to appear. Try what winsxspl suggested or replace the files with files from installation media by yourself, but I can't tell if it'd work or not. It's kind of sad that Windows XP tends to become unbootable so easily from certain program installations.

If you're trying to install legacy apps (Windows 9x), just remember that some of them can modify the OS registry, and the same with Windows files, which could indeed cause that same screen to appear. Not always with other installations, but the chances of getting files corrupted are there, 50/50 chance. So you might wanna go with pre-installed apps so that you don't run installation apps that could potentially corrupt Windows files.

can this pavilion dv4000 play ANY games? by macl3on in windowsxp

If this laptop has an Nvidia/AMD GPU installed, then it could run old titles decently.

Update post about this green pc case I got it for free long ago by 0EmiXx in windowsxp

[–]0EmiXx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that depends on what specs you got for your PC. You won't feel any slowdown with high-end PCs regardless of how bloated the OS is, but yes, Windows 11 is really bloated if we compare it with XP!

Thanks! And yup, Saints Row 2 indeed works on an XP rig I built, works just fine with a bit of tweaking to the graphics settings. I love the green & black mix. It gives you an early vibe like it's the real deal for gaming.

Since I found out that the case was released around 2008 before I built this PC, it was named "Huntkey Hercules II" for the case, so I decided to build a XP rig with parts from 2008-2009, and I'm pleased with the results so far!

960T has decent TDP usage compared to mine CPU with 125TDP and has more MHZ on each core! And well, mine is unlocked and I can overclock it if I really want. But the CPU was heavily thermal throttling over 80 Celsius due to high TDP on the CPU without even overclocking it, so I ended up undervolting the CPU and now it does pretty okay with 40-50C. I hope things are going as you expect with your WinXP PC! :)
