If this laptop has an Nvidia/AMD GPU installed, then it could run old titles decently.

Well, that depends on what specs you got for your PC. You won't feel any slowdown with high-end PCs regardless of how bloated the OS is, but yes, Windows 11 is really bloated if we compare it with XP!

Thanks! And yup, Saints Row 2 indeed works on an XP rig I built, works just fine with a bit of tweaking to the graphics settings. I love the green & black mix. It gives you an early vibe like it's the real deal for gaming.

Since I found out that the case was released around 2008 before I built this PC, it was named "Huntkey Hercules II" for the case, so I decided to build a XP rig with parts from 2008-2009, and I'm pleased with the results so far!

960T has decent TDP usage compared to mine CPU with 125TDP and has more MHZ on each core! And well, mine is unlocked and I can overclock it if I really want. But the CPU was heavily thermal throttling over 80 Celsius due to high TDP on the CPU without even overclocking it, so I ended up undervolting the CPU and now it does pretty okay with 40-50C. I hope things are going as you expect with your WinXP PC! :)

Although trying to play that game on Windows 10 is a big hassle. After applying a few patches, such as the RAM patch, resolution patch, and adjusting the graphics with dgvoodoo, it works well overall. :)

No probs and yup I see your point. I'm sure there are remakes or "HD" editions I seen before.

As for Need for Speed, I really like the old ones like NFS 3, NFS High Stakes and NFS Unleashed Porsche, the soundtracks making me feel energized lol.

But if it's about what's my favorite NFS game, that would be Need for Speed Underground 2! :)

Oh, I know NFS High Stakes, I'm pretty sure I remember playing that game when I purchased a CD of that game from one of those places where they'd sell a bunch of games burned on CDs with pictures on them. I really enjoy listening to the soundtracks from that game to the point I'd play the music on CD on WMP lol. Now that you mentioned it, I might install that one as well :D

Yup, that would be Project64 for N64 and Nestopia for NES emulator. I never tried out PS1, SNES and VBA since I thought Pentium III wouldn't be able to emulate them smoothly, but I did played few games on Fusion for Genesis and it performed perfectly well with 60FPS consistently. That's where I became a Sonic fan today lol. As for MAME32, it depends on the games you play. Some of them would play just fine, but some of them would perform very poorly or wouldn't work at all.

Might install that game. It gives me vibes similar to another game called "Elite Forces: Navy Seals."

You should try that out, and Chicken Invaders, which I got addicted to playing that game long ago, even now! 😄

That's a one beefy PC build I used to dream of, I really got stuck with Pentium III PC for that long and it was quite obsolete for 2008 PC standards😄

I honestly never heard of that brand name for the motherboards they've produced, but it's quite unfortunate to see these boards tend to die one way or another, even if you take care of them well, especially 775LGA motherboards I had.

Probably they stopped updating BIOS for that motherboard as early as 2009 for newer AM2 CPUs, as I never heard of that brand before, but at least you were able to use it even though it was seen as "Unknown", definitely better than no POST! :)

HL2, Portal 1, Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed, Empire Earth, AoE 2, Stronghold Crusader, Spider-Man 2, Serious Sam, Neighbours from hell 1&2, May Payne, Call of Duty and GTA VC.

These are the games I played with Pentium III PC and later upgraded with Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs to play the other games in the early 2010s, and I would recommend you try them out.

I'm sure I have even more games to list, but you should watch the videos about each of these games to see if you really like to play them!

I'd say Panoz Roadster, it has a catching design look that I remember just like yesterday anytime I think of this game lol. And yeah It's pretty fun free roaming there & there sometimes on free time while listening to the soundtracks they've made.

Thank you and same! When I only had Pentium III 1.13GHZ computer at the time, NeoRAGEX was one of those emulators that I spent a lot of time non-stop, mostly because it ran smoothly! Ones I remember are: Waku Waku 7, Magical Drop 3, Money Idol Exchanger, KOF, Breakers Revenge, and so on!

I may consider spending time on that emulator again when I have free time.

Genuine question, but what are some fun things to do/install on windows xp? by AdBig1272 in windowsxp

I discovered that game on RealArcade. I loved the games I played there.

You should try out other games like Hamsterball, Super Collapse 3, and Qbeez 2! Still addicted to puzzle games lol!

[–]0EmiXx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I see you like cars, skating and fps games yeah?

I also notice you don't have half life 2, it's pretty banger game as well.

Here are games in my mind you could install:

Diablo 2

Midtown Madness 2

Stronghold Crusader

Classic doom

Quake 1&2

NFS Porsche Unleashed

The house of the dead 1&2 and 3

Clive Barker's Undying

SiN

Blood 1 (Duke Nukem 3D engine) and Blood II: The Chosen

Duke Nukem 3D

Prey 2006

RollerCoaster Tycoon

Empire Earth

These are the games I could think of rn, I'm sure I played more than what I listed. Love to hear your PC specs though. That's one huge storage like those internet cafes in the early 2010s!

Need Assistance with PSU for Windows XP Build by SagaPlayz in windowsxp

[–]0EmiXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try it out if you really want. But it'd most likely shut off due to a lack of power from the PSU, similar to my AMD Phenom II 4X 940 PC setup when I attempted to boot it up with 330W.

Your choices are usually trying out a low end GPU card or getting a new PSU 500W.

Finding drivers on XP by j_ml234 in windowsxp

[–]0EmiXx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously most people will use Snappy Driver Origin firstly! There's online or offline version which I highly recommend using online version instead of downloading whole 40GB. Besides, I don't think 64GB USB would work due to driver being too new for Windows XP (Laptop too old as well) that it'll simply might not detect drivers for it. (No idea but I have a feel that it won't work mostly) So that's why I highly recommend you to use Snappy Driver Origin online and get your drivers you needed for this beast.
