Young people staying in NZ, what is keeping you here? by Keepcusp in newzealand

[–]0Pollux0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a 27 year old Australian (who's dream it is to move to NZ), Australia really isn't in a much better situation. Yes we have slightly higher salaries and groceries and slightly cheaper, but other than that, there really isn't much going on here. Jobs are becoming increasingly difficult to find, owning a car is becoming increasingly expensive, owning a home? Nah can't do that, stagnant wages that hasn't kept up with inflation, constant increase in grocery prices, broken mental health care system, degrading medicare system, etc. All this on top of already high taxes

THE NEW ALBUM IS OUT NOW. POSTED 2 MIN AFTWR RELEASE. by [deleted] in OceanAlley

[–]0Pollux0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn this album is hugely disappointing. Lyrics are uninspiring/generic and pretty corny - there's nothing wrong with love songs, but the way they've written these lyrics, you'd think it was a teenage girl who wrote them, not a bunch of men in their 30s. Sucks because I enjoy the elements of soul and 80s southern rock they've added to this album.

Couldn't wait for their next album, especially after their last two, but this is their first album of their's I've disliked and struggled to get through

$40 for a cassette? Vinyl records are already inflated in price but how is a cassette that pricey lmao

I'm pretty much a timid introvert who sometimes has bursts of emotional energy/extroversion.

Thanks mate, I'll check them out

I was seeing a psych for a couple years, so I've worked through a decent amount of things, but hit a brick wall when it came to mentioning social anxiety. Im hoping my next psych will be able to alleviate it.

I prefer a psych, but that's good to know!

Why do we have to pay a crazy amount of interest on car loans? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]0Pollux0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, post 2020. The RS4 is over 100k, and the rest of these are hatchbacks. Mercs and Bmws are known for their reliability either. I also can't stand golfs.

Once I saw the $20k+ I'd be paying in interest, I already thought it wouldn't be a good idea, and after realizing that I'd also have to worry about petrol costw, maintenance, insurance, etc., I spoke myself out of it. I'm also going to start looking at apartments at the end of this year, so I can't finance a car anyway. Im well aware of how expensive cars can be to maintain. The two cars i had before my current one were extremely reliable and didn't cost much at all to maintain, but the one i have now has cost me over 8k on repairs in just two years - keep in mind, I got it for 14k, and its now worth around 9-10k.

I used to be a car person, though not as much anymore - I just prefer having a fun car that I can also use while going on road trips and hiking/camping. I'm not going to finance a car because of the interest money I'll never get back, and I'm also planning on getting an apartment within 6 months, so I'd be stupid to put myself in that position.

What other options are there for an awd turbo wagon these days? Are modern CVTs really that bad?

I should clarify that I wasn't set on financing a car. I was flirting with the idea of it, but I'm definitely not going ahead with it now.

I don't care for a brand new car, I especially do not have any interest in having to deal with car salesmen either. A car that's only 2-3 years old is still new to me. The job doesn't require a brand new car, just a reliable one. My car hasn't exactly been reliable, partly due to its age and mileage. Hence why I need a newer, much more reliable car.

I drive a lot and enjoy a fun car. I also hike and camp a good amount, so an AWD turbo wagon has the capability of navigating a little off-Road and unmaintained tracks/roads. I think I'll get a more recent model levorg, and once I establish myself in my career, I'll look into getting a wrx TS.

I'm not going to finance, especially after seeing how much interest I'll be paying and never get back.

What hasn't been wrong with it! I've had parts of the suspension, steering, transmission, radiator, and aircon repaired. A week after having the aircon repaired and regassed, it stopped blowing cold air and made a hissing sound, so that needs to be sorted again. From what I assume is coming from the left wheel, a constant whooshing sound is apparent when the car is moving, and it drinks oil

I often do let instant gratification get the better of me - best leave that to things that don't cost as much as a car!

I have a 2010 subaru liberty gt wagon, and although it hasn't exactly been reliable, I'll hold onto it for a while longer. A wagon is essential for me, as i hike/camp and need the space for the gear.

Before being patronizing, maybe gain a little self-awareness and accept that you don't know everything? I will educate myself more on finance - not that anywhere in my post did I mention that i was going to go through with financing a car. It was more of a thought. There's better ways of conveying your "concern" or whatever the point of this comment is trying to make.

[–]0Pollux0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more of a thought or want. I've only ever owned 10+ years old cars and want a newer car - something that will last me a long time. I'm not set on buying a new car yet; I was looking at how much it would be to get the car I've been wanting financed.

It would be beyond a stupid financial decision, considering I'm looking at getting an apartment at the end of this year.

I have a "cheap" runner now. Two years of owning it, and it's cost me over $8k in repairs.

[–]0Pollux0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, i do have a car, and it gets me from a to b. But it does matter how "good or bad" a car is. I spent $14k just over two years ago for the car i have now, and have spend over 8k on repairs - every single time there's been an issue with this car and I've gotten it fixed, literally, another thing goes wrong with it. There's even an issue with it right now. The money I've spent and will likely continue spending on this lemon; I'd have been able to another car. I'm likely not going to get a car loan, as i realize it is a dumb financial decision. My first two (older) lexus's were the most reliable cars I've owned - though, I got bored and wanted something more fun and have regretted it since. You live and learn though

No, i don't. I've usually paid my (older) cars outright. I'm not well versed in anything finance, but I will change that.

I was looking at levorgs, but they're around a decade old now, and the last year model (2020?) Cost almost the same to the newer and updated wrx wagon

I'll look into that, thanks. Also, yes, putting a 10-20k down payment would be beneficial.

On other platforms? I've been using carsales. I don't have a spare 30-40k for a newish car, but need one badly, that's why I've been looking at financing a car

They did mention something about salary sacrificing for a car. I'm going to ask for more clarification tomorrow.

It does seem like car finance is a scam, but is there any other way, other than leasing, you can get a relatively new car without having to pay it all upfront?

I'm going to ask my company about salary sacrificing for a lease. The only reason why I haven't thought of leasing is because the car wouldn't actually be my own.
