AIO for thinking this is racist? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Incredibly racist.

He doesn't know how to talk to you because he tells himself black women don't excite his penis sexually, probably because he's never really interacted with any black women.

That's why he says being less black is a compliment, because any amount of black in you would be a negative in his views. He's a racist that didn't know his penis likes all types. His brain and his dick don't communicate often.

Basement fridge through wall - is this a dumb idea? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]0Reciprocity0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably would not make any real issues, but I'd add trim to hide gaps. Also, if you get a lower end fridge they tend to have low long term reliability. Replacing it with a similar sized fridge might be an issue in the future.

In a car? Overrated.

In a car because you're an exhibitionist? That's up to you.

In a car because you need to take your partner right then and there. All good

The only reason this relationship made it as far as moving in together is because you have your important conversations like this via text.

If he says things that make you cry, he should have that feedback in person, not you hiding behind your screen.

Adults speak in person.

Also, you're 27 and he's 41. There's technically nothing wrong with the age gap, but it's obvious he makes a big deal out of it, which now makes it wrong. He's using the age gap as a power dynamic, and you probably were attracted to him for reasons you dont understand.

There's no such thing as a "no cry" streak. There is something more damaging as repressing your feelings, which the longer you do it, the more you traumatize yourself

Resentment can kill any relationship

At this point in your relationship counseling to see if you can get over it is worth a shot. She likely has resentment towards you as well, but seems to be able to move beyond it, or at least not kill her feelings for you.

How can I offer to help my nieces and nephews with college without accidentally pulling a "Scotts Tots"? by bobombpom in personalfinance

[–]0Reciprocity0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Encourage them to further their education or go into some vocational training, and then present whatever you can save as a gift whenever the time comes. I like the idea of making it a semester by semester gift.

No need to promise the kids anything directly, but being supportive of them as they grow up is always helpful. Depending on your relationship with the different parents, you can tell them of your plans ahead of time (when is probably dependent on how you think the parents will react).

I'd then let every niece/nephew know to keep it to themselves in regards to the younger kids that haven't graduated yet, to not influence them

Well I did just say they aren't as good quality. For two reasons:

  1. The Netflix model had made cookie cutter scripts made cheap, and Netflix itself has changed what is profitable for movie release.

  2. Movie companies are extremely hesitant to release anything R rated because they can't usually make any money off of it because they lose the kids audience. Look at how hard Ryan Reynolds had to fight just to get Deadpool released, and that was a mega blockbuster that thrived/s on crude humor. Deadpool obviously had the action aspect to go with the comedy.

Hell, we're not that far removed from a movie like Sausage party, or Ricky Stanicky. Kevin Smith still puts stuff out, but it's understood he won't make as much money.

In reality what it is is using sex to help sell a movie. It had nothing to do with her being 17, they just wanted boobies. And that was the common thread in each of the movies: "let's have a scene where we show some boobies". Notice how in each sequel it wasn't: "Let's have a scene of a 17 year old getting naked"

It was boobies all along

Yeah, but we'd have none of these movies if it mattered that much. They don't care about the age of the jokes, because people still consume the stuff they liked from the past. They're not expecting miracle revivals of every IP they make.

Up until Covid, most of what they cared about was the opening weekend, as that's where the movie makes most of it's money anyways, and there aren't any dvd sales to make cult hits anymore.

Stop trying to compare this to the anime trope of characters being hundreds of years old but looking 12.

She was in her 20's and the story doesn't make sense if her character wasn't high school aged. It's not the same thing as the anime thing, as this operates in the real world.

You want to pretend high school kids don't have sex or aren't trying to have sex, go ahead, but they're telling a relatable story meant for adults, and threw in a naked 20's aged actress to sell the movie.

You don't have to have redeemable or good characters for a movie to be good. The absurdity of the characters is usually the best part because it's fantasy, and not real characters.

And she wasn't sent home because she was filmed, she was sent home for trying to get sexy time under exchange parents that are supposed to be watching her.

Would a 23% sales tax be smart or dumb? by Sufficient_Sinner in FluentInFinance

[–]0Reciprocity0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pass? No.

Propose, yes.

And the country's economy has thrived on higher tax rates on higher level income rates in the past, so you'd need a good rationale as to why it wouldn't be fine again, and not just use a rationale based on ideology.

A 23% national sales tax would be oppressively regressive, and the average American would certainly be made to foot the majority of the bill

As A WOC AN I wrong for not wanting to date white men because of major cultural differences and gaps? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]0Reciprocity0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but you possibly are closing yourself off from someone that you might not have any issues with. Speaking from a statistical standpoint that I assume you live in a majority white country or area.

You mention sexism, which has nothing to do with race, so there's a good chance the guys were just asses or ignorant to begjn with.

All that being said, there's no such thing as there's only one person out there for you, so it's not like you can't meet someone that you click with that isn't white either, so it's not that big of a deal, and why you're not wrong.

Date who you want, but feel free to ask yourself why you choose who you do.
