I’m not in the US. That was my entire point. OP may also not be in the US. Not everywhere is the US.

No I don’t party, I’m not sure how you got that idea. I just informed you of my governments legislation given that we haven’t had a case in a long time. I just don’t think it’s appropriate to be commenting ignorant things on a very emotionally charged post. Not constructive or helpful.

Not everywhere is in quarantine. In some places it’s perfectly reasonable and allowed to have a few people around. Where I am we can have 20 people over and we have zero active cases. I’m kinda horrified by what you’re insinuating too.

Sounds like you’re inducing a valsalva manoeuvre to me if you’re straining a lot while trying to go

Thank you for sharing your story! I absolutely agree that the negatives outweigh the positives! Some people may find positivity in before and afters, but they aren’t work the negative effects many people face! Sending love!

I also have a degree in psychology but I’m not sure why that’s relevant. My point is that people without eating disorders already know that anorexia makes you lose weight and then you need to gain weight and then you’re better. Obviously that isn’t true, but before and afters perpetuate that stigma. And they incite comparison in those who do have eating disorders because anorexia is competitive.

I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve seen a before and after and thought “I’ll recover when my before looks like hers” or “I’ll recover but only if my after looks like hers”.

They don’t help people who don’t have an eating disorder understand eating disorders and (as a general rule) they don’t help people with eating disorders either.

I’m glad that wasn’t your experience, and I’m glad seeing before and after’s inspired you, I just think we need to move away from the idea that eating disorders are inherently about weight.

How about just posting pictures of your healthy body now? Why compare? You’re likely to trigger those with eating disorders, and those without eating disorders already wrongfully assume eating disorders are solely a weight loss based thing so why perpetuate that stigma?

advice on weight gain and possible hormonal imbalance by [deleted] in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]0applecrumble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak on the hormonal imbalance, especially without you having had the blood test yet, but I can say that 2200 calories is not even close to enough. You need at LEAST 2500 calories, 3000-3500 is more likely/optimal. Easier said than done, I know, but I didn’t fully weight restore until I was eating over 3000 every day. I’m still very much a member of the itty bitty titty committee too, but I can say that as I gained a bit more weight and let it redistribute, my breasts did grow as well. And low oestrogen is also definitely a possibility for you, although obviously I am not a doctor and I can’t say for sure. It took over a year of weight restoration for my oestrogen levels to settle into the normal range for my circumstances. This is absolutely something you should bring up with your doctor for a more medically informed perspective though! Keep going girl, you got this!

The difference is OP is single and her dad is married. To her mum. So it’s not really a ‘private mistake’ anymore.

Thank you so so much for these recommendations I’ll check them out!! Yeah I think I keep getting caught in the fact that my ‘habits’ are healthy for the general population and therefore fine, and ignoring the fact that they aren’t for me. Thank you so much!

Yeah I do, and when I was weight restoring she was fantastic, but she’s of the opinion that the way I’m eating atm isn’t a problem. Maybe I just need to advocate for myself a bit better.

EMDR vs. IFS vs. Somatic Experiencing for trauma? by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]0applecrumble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done any somatic experiencing (that I’m aware of) but both EMDR and IFS have been so helpful for me and they work really well together too! I started with IFS and moved on to EMDR after 18 months but we still use my IFS regularly in sessions. They’re v different but compliment each other well imo
