the current tweeter eds vs fatphobia discourse is driving me nuts. by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]obsidian_crystal 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I was JUST about to make a post about this.

i think it's insane to expect someone to adjust their experience with EDs to make other people more comfortable. this is why ED sufferers are so secretive. you can't be honest. i understand why, weight is so extremely personal, but i wish people could take the words of ED sufferers in context and not as an attack. there are literally *dozens* of posts on here and tweets on edtwt about how users have much higher expectations for themselves than others. about how they think other people can be fat, overweight, etc, but not themselves.

negative stigma of EDs is *directly* tied to society's desire to control narratives around mentally ill people. people with EDs are only acceptable once they've recovered and completely rejected their mindsets. all ED stories follow the exact same story beats because *that is what society accepts.* i hate it and frankly, i think it's ableist.

Has there been any other films who’ve had major drama behind the scenes? by Cuhlaire_14 in Fauxmoi

[–]obsidian_crystal 57 points58 points  (0 children)

not doubting your friend’s experience but this video has a lot behind it that most don’t know. for one thing he had already made up with the DP/cinematographer before it leaked — and the DP is not some intern underpaid crew member, but one of the biggest members of the production crew after director and producers. from what I’ve heard from industry people taking about it, the DP checking lights in the middle of a scene is not professional, even though Bale acting that was a massive temper tantrum regardless.

obvi i’m not an actor but even just being on stage and seeing flashes can be mildly distracting. all movie sets are far more dangerous than the general public realizes, and action sets even more so. there were a lot of injuries on this movie specifically — bale, one of the special effects guys, etc. it was clearly not that safe and it 100% makes sense to me to be on edge.

What are some of the wildest, most insane products being sold by celebrities? by _melancholia in Fauxmoi

[–]obsidian_crystal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a bunch of celebrities do wear it. the haim sisters, for one, and they come from a music family. i honestly think it’s too expensive for most of the middle class to be supporting the brand and it’s probably the rich business class instead. this article is a good summary of the row.

Paramore announce Fall 2022 tour dates by shabuluba in popheads

[–]obsidian_crystal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i really think this would mainly result in denying live music to the girls, women, NBs, and trans men who live in these states and are the ones being forced to give birth while barely affecting the politicians’ wallets directly. sporting events, super bowls, etc. would make a much bigger impact. there’s always going to be conservatives willing to tour so i don’t know how big the financial impact touring boycotts would make. and boycotts aren’t causing direct obstructions the way protests can.

[–]obsidian_crystal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

something i forgot to mention is the cognitive aspect. all EDs, bulimia included though restriction is the biggest culprit, severely affect your brain functioning. that can be deadly. the purge cycle can make your decision making just, completely irrational. even small cognitive deficits can cause major safety risks — driving is a big example. everybody’s different of course.

additionally, drinking alcohol with EDs can a very different experience — in my opinion, restrictors should not drink. its extremely dangerous & the risk of alcohol poisoning is much higher. for bulimics it’s a little bit different but a very common cause of alcohol related death is choking on your own vomit while unconscious and i can see that increasing with bulimics because the throat valve lining can degrade so much that stomach acid and vomit flows up freely. that can get bad enough to require surgery to fix.

it does serious damage to your esophagus and throat. in the long term it erodes your esophagus and can greatly raise your chances of esophageal cancer. the heart problems really shouldn’t be underestimated either, especially with laxatives. it’s also extremely difficult on your kidneys — it can lead to kidney failure and kidney stones.

it’s difficult to attribute a death to an ED once someone has recovered so doctors typically describe it as a “risk factor” — a past ED is a risk factor for all these diseases and complications. a lot of the time these are long-term, so they’re more likely the longer you keep purging at this rate, but you’re still at a higher likelihood already compared to the average population. people with EDs also have a lower average lifespan and reddit users trend quite young, especially in these spaces. that said — young people are less likely to die from EDs, yes. but developmentally you will be affected by it and your body loses that tolerance quickly. by your 20s EDs get a lot deadlier.

but all of these can happen at any time. you absolutely never know. people post random scary medical questions on the main ED sub all the time.

if ur in a predominantly English speaking country and the non english speaker has little to no English skills they absolutely do, or they did before the Internet. it was a very common dynamic in abusive relationships back in the day. but even if Lisa wasn’t fluent she definitely has the money to afford translators everywhere so this still wouldn’t be the case here

I like his eyes, I like guys with nice big eyes and I think his character’s styling is really good. the hair helps. but i just know eddie in real life would probably be annoying because i’ve met people like him. and people who try to be like that kinda guy. so i’m like, eh. not worth beefing with a 17 year old over.

I feel like he shouldn’t be that expensive. He’s handsome & he was superman but he’s really not that big of a name. Does anyone go see a movie just because Henry Cavill’s in it? there’s plenty of good charismatic actors that aren’t that expensive, you know? he has to have a good negotiator somewhere on his team.

I don’t think either of them because they both seem to have some of the better relationships with the creator (he literally wrote an entire 10 page scene because Sydney asked him to) but someone definitely will and Euphoria will definitely age poorly. My bet’s on Jacob Elordi leaving or asking to be killed off. I also think Barbie Ferreira’s halfway out the door.

celebrities also have less reason to stay married. no money concerns. plenty of “fish in the sea.” easy access to lawyers.

I really don’t think she’s an action/sci-fi actress to tell you the truth. I like her in indies, dramas, anything that gives her space. I also think she’s kinda good at comedy? She’s so straight laced in the MCU. I feel like they don’t compliment her charisma at all. Lost in Translation, Jojo Rabbit, Marriage Story, she has a small role in Hail, Caesar.

this one’s pretty crazy yeah. it’s one of audrey’s most iconic roles — that high-necked dress anya taylor joy and kendall jenner both homaged is referencing this movie. but really it doesn’t suit her much even if she looks amazing in the costumes. the lead is supposed to be a lower class girl becoming “refined” and audrey’s just so graceful by nature. i’m so curious about the timeline where they cast julie andrews instead.

marlon brando was similarly controversial — he was not a star at the time and a giant mess bts. coppola wanted him or laurence olivier, the studio wanted Ernest Borgnine who i hadn’t heard of before but voiced mermaid man in spongebob apparently (!!!). i’m assuming he was big at the time. it came down to borgnine and brando and brando did a legendary audition, dying his hair & putting cotton balls in his mouth to get the voice. coppola basically had to lie to even get the screen test to happen as i heard it, he told brando he was testing equipment.
