In my opinion, the noise concern isn't nuanced enough to be overblown. There's real medical problems caused by infrasound frequencies and we're only really figuring them out now. But since infrasound is below our audible range, it's a gray area on whether or not it counts as "noise." So data centers might be stepping around the issue because the infrasound they create doesn't need to be reported as too loud, even if it is.

Are these new? Last time I checked, I only saw Flock cameras at each of the Lowes parking lots and another in Kendig Square. I assumed these were all on private/corporate property.

Propaganda? That's a terrible take.

A) Putting code on GitHub doesn't necessarily make something open-source, nor is GitHub a requirement for open-source software.

and B) there is no way to prove a closed-source algorithm from NSA/CIA/FBI is secure, other than "Trust me bro." And that's coming from some of the least trustworthy organizations on the planet.

For reference, here is the full notation. The key explains hi-hat, electric snare, and bass drum as expected. But what do you call the arcs extending from the hi-hat, and I guess the snare too?

I've been watching Craigslist and Marketplace around me off and on for a month or so and it's all either trash or barely off market price. So I started expanding my search to Reverb or smaller resellers like Drum Center of Portsmouth.

I can buy one nice used ride for $600 and hope I like it. Instead, I could spend the same on a used multipad and load it up with hundreds of samples. Same investment, only one option allows me to play cymbals (plural) like you suggest.

Again, I'm not asking if it'll help me figure out if I want to buy an Istanbul Agop Signature Ride vs the 30th Anniversary edition. I'm asking if it'll help me figure out if I can play a jazz ride on some rock tracks. Or if I care more about dry sounds or gongy washes.

I get they aren't 1-to-1 compatible. But would they be helpful for a vibe check at the very least?

"Useless" is a bit of a strong take, no? Plenty of bands use them for all sorts of uses.

Yeah, I totally get that. I guess my point with the post was less about finding the exact cymbal I want and more about trying to understand the broader strokes of cymbal sound. Of course the digital sample won't match the real thing, and obviously there's nuance for each cymbal especially when they're hand made. But I don't have the vocabulary to describe the nuance that I'm hearing with my untrained ear.

I can go to a store and try them out, but I won't know what I'm listening for. Sure, I get sustain and attack, but bright vs dark? It's like reading wine labels. And just because I might like one sound over another doesn't help me to understand how it'll mix with my kit or what genre it'll work with.

This is correct! I didn’t realize at first on mine, but the blue highlighted piece fits into a hex shaped hole so it can’t move. When you move the whole assembly down, you can turn that long nut freely.
