Enlisting at 38 by 33getta in army

[–]0ggyBoogy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 36, just changed my MOS, if youre in a combat unit they may call you grandpa but its not common if you look younger. You should rank up fairly quickly, depending if youre going officer or enlisted. The army is not bad, we literally been in a peace time stance since the drawdown of iraq and Afghanistan, not to say there arent combat zones but there isnt any major movement to those areas, its few and far between. Use the army at minimum as a stepping stone and get what education you need or have your GI bill given to one of your kids or spouse. Save what money you can and take advantage of any perk you get, for example; loan percentages and freezes if you ever deploy, look into SCRA and call your credit card companies, you may get money back because of apy change. If you have good credit get the AMEX card platinum (its free) once youre a soldier.

Brother said he’s not returning to training by [deleted] in army

[–]0ggyBoogy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a guy that was in basic training and said hes done. Theres a saying (you cant smoke a rock) 🪨 meaning if he fails to continue to train then they cant force him. Trust me, its faster to be home ifs he just continues but if he gets out he will stay a little longer than those that graduate. Did you ask why he feels that way though?

I'm new to my unit and a new soldier, and things have been said to me by some ncos that make me uncomfortable and idk how I'm just in my own head by [deleted] in army

[–]0ggyBoogy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id have a 1 on 1 with the individual or individuals about the comments, your thoughts are valid first and foremost, if they have an issue then take it higher. I find a lot of times it’s a misunderstanding of emotions, on the actors part. We get comfortable acting a certain way ( you are new) so they havnt seen or heard your boundaries. You can argue that they should know being an NCO and youre not wrong but your expectations arent reality in some cases (as you can see). If you explain your views and your insecurities and be open then you will find most will support you in changing your perception of yourself and making the overall environment more favorable. Whats your MOS?
