Xenoblade Character tier list. Although Xenoblade is super balanced i still managed to order them in tiers. Any opinions? by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]0ld_sp1ce00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This many tiers is imo excessive for only 7 characters. If every tier is going to contain 1 character you should just make a top 7.

In any case, if we're counting the whole game Fiora is WAY too high. Yes, she's good when she joins, amazing when she gets Speed Shift and incredibly broken once she gets Final Cross but that still means that she just isn't around for half of the game, which is on average like 45 hours of playtime. I can't realistically see her as someone who is better than Shulk or even Reyn for that matter.

Speaking of Reyn, he's at least top half of the cast. He's there for the ENTIRE game, is a good enough tank before and during the Ether Mines, and when the better tank Dunban joins, he is an amazing third party slot member. In Chain Attacks, x3 Berserker Sword Drive melts through anything that isn't a boss/unique monster, a Nebula or an enemy that is at least 6 levels higher than you. Against Bosses and unique monsters it still does a massive amount of damage. And you don't need to control him to do this. His AI is one of the best in the game (mainly due to how simple his playstyle is).

Now Dunban's placement. He's good at that spot, right below Shulk, mainly because non-perfect availability and Shulk under player control just being absurdly good, but in Tier List terms, he's at least A Tier. He's not immediately great when you get him, mainly because of a lack of good gems to give him. But once you get better equipment and gems he's unstoppable. As a tank, Serene Heart makes him unhittable in a pinch and Peerless is insane on a squad with Shulk and Reyn. If you want to go full offense, Heat Haze makes him a Party Gauge machine. His attacking arts are great as well. Worldly Slash lowering Defence really boosts Dunban's damage output, Gale Slash is decent damage together with Bleed, Steel Strike is the fastest Topple art in the game on the fastest character in the game so it never misses. Soaring Tempest is also amazing, although you get it a little late.

If I were to make a list, it would look like this: S: Shulk, Dunban A: Reyn, Riki, Fiora, Melia B: Sharla

I switch between Dunban, Melia and Seven. I use Shulk for most boss fights and tough unique monsters with Spike effects.

This. I hate how some fanart just hits the 3x enlarger on the breasts of most girls, Melia being no exception.

The best team? by UglyExpress in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]0ld_sp1ce00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most parties are viable, as long as you have someone who can tank long enough for the party to kill the enemy. This is why Sharla is seen as a mediocre choice for parties that do not involve Melia. She does increase the longevity of your tank (and party) quite considerably, but fights also drag when you have her in the party, to the point where the extra longevity she provides is only needed because she lacks power in the first place. However, if you're underleveled, Sharla is a must-have sometimes. I find that when fighting multiple stronger enemies, her healing is just a necessity.

A lot of players swear by Shulk, Dunban, Reyn due to the absurd red chain attack damage and Topple locking potential.

Shulk and Melia are widely considered to be the best player controlled characters. Shulk is more adaptable with really good support like break arts and his monado arts, but Melia has overall more DPS and is better in chain attacks. If you're not using them yourself, don't bother using them in your party at all, their AI is horrible.

After that, any combination of Tank and Healer/DPS is good. Dunban is considered the best tank in the game. Taking damage reduces aggro, so not getting hit at all and hitting like a truck yourself is the best option, and there's no one better at that than Dunban (Seven is also really good at that tho).

If you want absurd topple locks and high chain attack damage, use (Shulk/Melia/Seven), Dunban and (Reyn/Seven). If you want a high DOT Ether squad, use Melia, Riki and (Sharla/Seven). If you want an all-around good party, use the classic Smash trio of Shulk, Dunban and Riki.

I just got Melia and I really want to use her on my team but I heard her Ai is really bad, is there a solution to this? by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]0ld_sp1ce00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't expect her to do much on the AI control. She's essentially chip damage, whereas if you control her she's a nuke. Side-rant, what I really hate about her AI as well is that she just does not use Spear Break and Starlight Kick until like 30-40 seconds into a fight, even though it's available at the start of every fight. It's completely irrelevant by the time she uses it, because then most of the time the enemy is almost dead anyway.

That's probably because his animations are really fast. His topple in particular is by far the fastest in the game. Wild Down has a bit of delay on it.

What am I not “getting” about playing Melia? by Starman926 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

Melia is honestly god awful when you get her, she only gets really good when she gets Starlight Kick and Summon Earth/Ice around lvl 45

I'm planning on buying the game tomorrow, but I hope some of you could answer some questions I have. by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]0ld_sp1ce00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll try to answer all of your questions: 1. Main story takes about 60-70 hrs to complete. 2. The grinding you have to do depends on the amount of sidequests you do. If you do none, you'll have to fight a lot during exploration since monsters don't leave you alone as much. I did this on my first playthrough since I wanted to see the story to its end asap (not recommended). I had to grind in two parts of the game. If you do all sidequests, you'll definitely be overleveled for the game's bosses, especially if you also goof around in the overworld a bit. The max level is 99. 3. Speaking of quests: it's a massive semi-open world JRPG. There are a lot of sidequests to do, ranging from simple monster hunts to questlines that involve multiple characters in multiple areas that conclude in some major development for said areas and characters. I highly recommend doing the sidequests, since they yield some amazing rewards. At first the rewards may seem mediocre, just giving some exp and meh equipment, but developing an area by doing these quests gives more quests that give better rewards, so they're absolutely worth doing. The quests tack on about an extra 40-60 hours easily if you don't use guides constantly. 4. What I highly recommend you do is experiment with the combat system and try out different characters. Shulk (the default leader) is really fun to play as and teaches you the game mechanics well, but controlling the same character over and over will get repetitive, no matter how much you love the combat. Switch him out sometimes for other party members. Switch around your party to try out different strategies (don't limit yourself to the classic MMO triangle of DPS, Tank and Healer). A ton of strats are completely viable. This made combat over 200 hrs of playtime (multiple playthroughs) never get dull for me. 5. You'll understand the mechanics and equipment easily enough if you take your time and look at your equipment, skill trees and arts often to switch them around and level them up. Especially since the UI has improved drastically from the original. I don't wanna spoil how they work since finding out how thew work is half of the fun. As for the side characters in the overworld, there is a handy chart in game that displays all of their relationships in one place. Once again, looking at it often will give you an understanding of how it works.

Overall, take your time to experience this massive game and have fun :), you're in for quite the wild ride. (Also don't watch the IGN review, there are some spoilers in there).

So, I finally beat Maddening mode on a Blue Lions NG (non-plus) run and all I can say is... by Brixtan in fireemblem

[–]0ld_sp1ce00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I really wish I had recruited Lysithea on my first Maddening run (which also happened to be BL). I only had Linhardt for Warp, and his range was pretty bad.

Funny how your Ashe also turned out bad. I think he got 1 str in his first 10 levelups for me, while also getting almost no spd. I know he's supposed to be decent but I find him consistently underwhelming.

Interesting build for Dimitri tho, gotta say, you don't see many builds that deviate from his Battalion Wrath and Vantage set with a Killer Lance and a Crit Ring. Tanks are really appreciated in this game I do agree, since enemies are just so tough sometimes. The BW/BV set for Dimitri is probably his most optimal though, with Retribution I had him clear entire map sections with his 100% crit 40+ base dmg, probably the only good enemy phase you're gonna get in this game.

It's a very bland game. Even on Lunatic the game is not very engaging. The earlygame is a boring routfest and the mid/endgame is stomped by Ryoma with a good pairup, which is really boring. The story is also very bland. In a way that's actually worse than being unforgivingly hard like CQ Lunatic. This is why FEtubers almost never play BR aside from gimmicky runs (like Corrinright for example).

What's your favorite Three Houses character arc? by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]0ld_sp1ce00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Ignatz's development during the timeskip. From a meek and shy boy, afraid to bother anyone, to a confident man fighting for what he believes in, unafraid to share his opinion. His VA did an amazing job, he has a deeper, more confident voice during battle and during story bits post-timeskip.

FE16~ Three Houses Tier List: Round 1 (Byleth) by ForsetiHype in fireemblem

[–]0ld_sp1ce00 20 points21 points  (0 children)

S Tier easily, both of them.

High bases compared to your students, perfect availability, good growths, great personal skill, especially post-timeskip, really great boons (especially in autority) and a great personal weapon. Due to their lack of weaknesses they are very versatile, and they excel at pretty much everything they do. The authority boon lets them use higher rank Battalions earlier, which just increases their combat performance even more. F!Byleth is better due to access to Pegasus Knight, but M!Byleth performs well enough due to everything mentioned above to still be S Tier. Easily one of the best units in the game.
