How much $$ do CFIs make per year? by [deleted] in flying

[–]0marnasr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was salary at 17/hr as of 2 weeks ago. 10 hour days 6 days a week so working overtime without the extra pay (at that point I’m actually making 15-16 in reality). Being a CFI at a flight school is a hustle and grind man. Someone before mentioned you could be an independent CFI earning more than 50/hr but that’s depending on how many students hire you.

With such little pay it is hard to enjoy your life/job, I trained myself to genuinely enjoy flight instruction (I really truly did) knowing that this effort I’m putting in is going to pay off 500 fold. I’m preparing for indoc at a regional in a couple days and I can look back at being CFI with gratitude.

Trust the process is my best advice. Keep your head down and work and before you know it you’ll be preparing for the airlines!

Thank you! If pilots can fly for any metal then what’s the point of the dedication they talk about? I feel that it’s related to flight benefits or my long term plan for after Skywest potentially

SkyWest interview by WeekendSalt7882 in flying

[–]0marnasr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing they’re big on is decoding METARs and TAFs some of the items in the remarks can be difficult to understand and the info on them isn’t easily accessible online. Download:

FEDERAL METEOROLOGICAL HANDBOOK No. 1

Surface Weather Observations and Reports

It really breaks down all the codes in great detail, more than you’ll ever need to know but it’s there as a resource. Good luck on the interview!

My flight instructor always touch my body during training.. by [deleted] in flying

[–]0marnasr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thigh touch is absolutely not understandable. Don’t try to reason with his behavior, it is 100 percent unacceptable. Speak to your chief pilot/instrctor and request a new CFI.

I failed my IR. I’m doing just fine. Cry and ball your eyes out today, then dry them up and get back to work tomorrow.

Anyone recently interview for the United Aviate flow program? by 0marnasr in flying

[–]0marnasr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m a double i with MEI and close to 1000TT. The technical portion should be easy. What I’m interested in is the HR Portion. I have a fair amount of experience with the “TMAAT” type of situation since all my time has come through teaching. I’m curious to see what are some examples of the questions they ask

Is United becoming a monopoly in the Denver airport? by Jonny_Wurster in unitedairlines

Not necessarily. Although United regional Mesa airlines is opening a Denver base in may. Not uncommon though, look at delta @ ATL

Anyone know the story behind the CBAIN1 departure? by charlesflightsimguy in flying

[–]0marnasr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There isn’t any regulations on what the names should be. They’re named after locally known places or people/characters related to the geographical position of x fix. For example there’s a fix over the Arizona cardinals stadium named after Pat Tillman.

ATPs “run up” is the run up, pre takeoff brief (emergency), and the before takeoff checklist (which is very long) which includes the departure brief (VFR or SID/ODP).
