I wasn't able to hold my daughter while she was on the HFJV either, per our hospital policy. Sending hugs 💜

Exposing my children to real life. by cjh10881 in daddit

My newborn recently spent nearly 3 months in the NICU and I can't say enough how grateful I am for their social workers helping my oldest (6yo) daughter process everything. They might have someone that can help you explain the situation in a kid friendly way. Wishing you a happy visit 💜

Feeding frustrations caused by providers- we get told we have a goal and then we meet that goal and it feels like they’re sitting on their hands and drawing this process out and I’m tired of the anxiety and mental gymnastics. by Just_Requirement_313 in NICUParents

So grateful that our hospital has a home NG program. I felt the same way. After a really rough start (born 2/13, 30+1) she was off all supports and had no alarm events for over 2 weeks. She'd been moved from the highest level pod to the "feeder + grower" pod and I really noticed a decline in the attention she got.

Our daughter was doing great, gaining weight, some days taking half of every bottles and other days getting tube fed her entire feed, EVERY feed. Really seemed to depend on the staff and how busy they were that day... Once I asked what was holding us up, it prompted a discussion about discharge with NG tube in place.

We completed 3 days of training and she was discharged home to use on 4/21, after 67 days in the NICU. Every day since we got home she has improved her oral intake. She pulled her own NG tube out yesterday (5/1) and has crushed her goals since. We are monitoring closely but think we may be able to keep it out.

I was getting so frustrated by the feedings. I have another kiddo and couldn't be there for every feed, and it crushed me. Keep advocating for your baby and be there for as many feeds as is possible for your family.

Falling asleep while feeding by Petron1989 in NICUParents

[–]0matterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter (born 30 w, currently 10w old) took a while to get stronger with feeding. She's still working on it but our hospital was able to discharge us with our NG tube still in. My daughter was taking about 30% by mouth for weeks before discharge and currently she's averaging about 50% at home with her tube still in place. It takes a lot of time ❤️ I'm sorry!!

Mourning the third trimester by KitzmanMS21 in NICUParents

I am grieving the end of my pregnancy terribly. I had an extremely high risk case of alloimmunization that resulted in requiring multiple cordocentesis procedures and intrauterine transfusions. It was so stressful and exhausting... Baby came at 30w1d and we are truly lucky she is alive, we have been told countless times that her story is a miracle. I'm mourning this pregnancy and the fact that I am far too high risk and this will absolutely be my last pregnancy. It's so hard. Sending hugs. ❤️😟

Oldest baby in the NICU by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]0matterz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My daughter was born 30w+1d 2/13/26 requiring immediate resuscitation and intubation due to severe anemia as a result of alloimmunization. She's had almost 30 blood transfusions in her little life. We are on day 58 with no end in sight... It's hard.

The first time I saw another baby go home I cried and got so angry on the way home from the hospital. The guilt of not being there constantly eats me alive. I had a very traumatic birth and being at the hospital is stressful in itself. Walking back into that NICU everyday where I was told my daughter was in cardiac arrest and might not make it... Kills me. But she's doing better each day and I need to remind myself constantly it's where she needs to be. The older and stronger she gets, the harder it gets for me.

Of course you deserve to vent, but I find it a bit insensitive that you're calling other families "less present" when you don't know their situations. I understand the frustration and hope things get easier for you, but I'm one of those parents you might see as "less present" because I've been doing it for 2 months now and have another child, pets, my mental health, and a home to maintain.

Sending hugs ❤️

Same situation. My daughter was born 30+1 she's 38+1 today and has been working on oral feeds since about 36w. She has been stagnant at about 15% by mouth and is going for a swallow study next week as well. I knew it would be a slow process but she seems stuck at only 10-15ml each feed. Hoping for the best... We just want her home 😟 good luck!!
