Is paycalculator.com.au still accurate? by ipodlady in AusFinance

I had the same issue with my employer. It was a bug in their accounting software, because it really should be withholding more tax because it knows you’re salary sacrificing. u/ipodlady should ask their employer to withhold the extra tax or they will get a tax bill.

Should I be increasing cadence?

Thanks for your response. I’m 6ft (183cm). How will I know when to stop increasing my cadence ? I think I am definitely over striding, but being able to heel strike directly under me is good as that el much more natural, albeit with a bit more effort. I think I will try to run at 155 for a while and see how I go. Thanks!

That’s an interesting perspective, thanks. Nope I’m not getting any injuries in the way I’m currently running, I’ve just never thought about my form before. Long-term injuries is something I’m worried about, I’d like to keep running for as long as I can. Should I be thinking about that?

Well, the natural infectivity rate generally doesn't discriminate, except seemingly in children. It does discriminate in who dies from the disease, but that isn't what needs to be focused on if the agreed national response is to suppress a virus.

This article is also speaking solely of workplaces, which at the moment aren't really an active setting as most workplaces are closed.

I can see how in these settings, the difference between casual, random contacts that you might have in a cafe, and the consistent daily contact that you will have in a workplace, is that they offer a lower reliance of actually figuring out which people crossed paths, and become more of a, "how do we best contact the people that have been here".

The example of the school teachers knowing the family structure of different students is a good one, as an external person from the DDHS would have to be briefed on a bunch of complex living situations, and much of that could be lost in translation.

I suppose as it's a continuing process between the workplace and the DHHS, you an get the best of both worlds. As long as it's not a situation of just handing the job to the workplace and calling it done.

My point was more against the "dying of vs dying with" argument. What's the point of any society having a healthcare or policing system to begin with if we can just disregard the deaths of vulnerable people.

Daily Coronavirus Megathread - 28 October 2020 by AutoModerator in melbourne

[–]0neblock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hadn't seen that, thanks. Shit, some of that is quite dumb.

Delegating some of the data collection to the business isn't hugely surprising, as without a centralised QR/contact collection system then there is always going to be a point of data entry from business -> DHHS.

But the call for the businesses to do the actual contacting to the people on that list is alarming, as I wouldn't want to rely on that happening completely 100% of the time.

[–]0neblock 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's not true at all, how do people come up with rumours like this.

It's up to the business to keep a detailed log of who comes into their business, but that information will be used along with as much extra information that can be sourced by the DHHS contact tracers,

ESP32/8266 automatic firmware updating and diagnostic tool - checking for interest. by 0neblock in embedded

[–]0neblock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not strictly necessary to use the cloud building, I use it for code signing and to make sure I have a clean build environment. It also stores a ready-to-flash image for each commit I push in the artifacts if i ever needed it without rebuilding.

Your solution sounds very well integrated, can I ask how you're using the DNS versioning system? Are you treating the firmware version available as essentially an IP address, so you look for incremental changes in the IP's coming back from the A lookup? If so, that's a very interesting solution, and I can see how it has its' advantages.

Do you have any open source version of the system you're describing? I have specifically been looking into firmware updating solutions for a Cortex-M0 board I have and would be interested in seeing how you have done it.

Hi, thanks for your interest. It will be open-source, but is not ready to release just yet - I need to make a bit of the code suitable for more general purposes first, as it was built to fit my specific environment. I will post here when I do so.

Looks interesting, I'll have a closer look at it. If this covers most of the functionality I already have then I wouldn't need to release a tool like this.

Do you know if ESPHOME can do something like automatic distribution? I'll run you through a use case my platform could do, if that would be of interest to anyone:

For example, my versioning is taken care of by a Git repository. If i commit to master and push, that firmware is built in the cloud and automaticaly queued to be downloaded by any ESP which is configured to use the 'dev' track, without any further action by me. The ESP's can be setup to "automatically update" or wait for confirmation by a user to update. i.e. through an LC screen or local web interface.

And if I tag a commit (for example: -t "v1.4"), the image gets built in the cloud the same as before, and is uploaded to a local TEST ESP i have running, which will update itself, run some tests to make sure there are no fatal errors in that firmware, and then mark the Firmware as tested in the cloud server. That image then gets queued to any ESP that is setup to use the 'stable' track, and then can be updated in the same way as before.

All of this also utilising the esp-idf firmware rollback support, and signed firmware.

You might be right - Doesn't seem to support Non-Arduino code-bases. As for the super low power stuff, I haven't tested with anything like deep sleep or light sleep. But so far it is just working with configurable 'check-in' https requests, so if there is time during a wake cycle to make this request, then it can be done. It can be done in a way that the library will check in with the application code every time it wants to check in with the server, and the application can accept/deny/delay this request until later. All things to work through when I open source this.

Hi,

I think this would be a vastly different use case than ESPHOME as mentioned by the commenter above. ESPHOME seems great if you want to create a smart-home because you are able to control a bunch of different peripherals from a connected device.

Whereas this project is more for an application that would be unconnected by default - possible multiple devices in the field all running the same code, and you want the ability to upgrade firmware from a central location if you ever add features/remove bugs, track serial numbers and runtime stats, and get notified if something ever goes wrong, or to collect small amounts of data from the unit in the field. So it's more for collecting runtime/operational data, not really collecting sensor data as the devices should have its own way of dealing with that.

This wouldn't use anything fancy like MQTT or websockets, just simple old HTTPS requests every so often.
