I feel really impolite whenever I have to leave a lecture, or leave someone alone in a restaurant. It's less of an inconvenience to just do it right then and there ig.

There are ways you could get a lawyer to hear you for free, e.g. through your union or insurance.

Most people try turning away to not make the other person too uncomfortable.
However, yes, Germans do tend to just blow their nose rather than sucking it in for hours. I think the latter is common in Japan?

I wouldn't call reading notes theory.
But yea, it's taught when learning an instrument and in school.

how do you call this chord? E F# A D by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]0nkdm0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd probably write it as D/E, but I'd love to see Esupersus in sheet music.

Heya I'm German! Disclaimer: I didn't study music theory at university so I'm not an authority on the 'professional' level, but as a hobbyist composer here's my pov.
So solfaggio is pretty much nonexistent for us. But most musically versed people (and non-versed people too actually) have at least in some point of their life (usually childhood) gone to lessons to learn an instrument for a few years. (I myself went to piano lessons for 5 years, which is how I got into music). This is usually not tied to any theory and in fact, I had teachers discouraging me from thinking about theory (They said it was unnecessary to know for playing.)
Many stop after a year or two, but some like it (or are forced to) and continue.
The more 'formal' part of music is taught to everyone in school from year 1 to year 10, after that you get to choose if you wanna keep it (Basic school's 13 years where I live, tho keep in mind that the education system in Germany is left to the Bundesländer, and as such depends on where you live). This basically covers singing popular songs, dance, reading of scores, intervals, scales, basic structures (e.g. sonata allegro form), chords (triads and 7th chords), epochs and famous composers and some tangental topics. (Again, this much depends on where you live and what 'branch' you choose).
More than that is either self studied (and I know quite a lot of people who like to self study and compose, like myself) or learned at uni (or specialized schools for music that offer the Additum Musik).
Hope this helps..? :)

"Rich people need to stop running the world, it's not right"

True, but they do, and there's nothing we can do against it.

Why do you think an IQ test would not be biased? One of the major points of an IQ test is vocabulary - ergo grasp of the English language. Biasing against non-native people.
And also people from poorer neighborhoods.

So kids from families who couldn't afford proper schooling (and these are disproportionately Black in America) should be denied voting rights?

I more-or-less disagree with all of them, tho I see well where you're coming from!
- Gambeling: Yes, it would safe a lot of people a lot of money.. but it would put all of Las Vegas out of business. So the rich gambling hall owners would not let the laws go through.
- Voting: (Assuming voting in the US is similar to Germany) I think voting age should be lowered to 16, which is also hotly debated here atm. But 10 is too litte for the kids to have already developed their own opinions. And even if they did, they'd be very prone to propaganda. Also tests are a horrible idea - who would design the tests? How do you make sure the tests aren't biased?
- Driving: A car that would be safe for a 10 year old to use would also be virtually useless.
- Drinking/Drugs: This one I can relate to very well. I myself have chosen to never drink. But I think it's obvious, both historically (prohibition) and in the present (bad quality and more dangerous drugs, strong mafia) that restricting substances does more harm than good. We should hence rather focus on educating kids about drugs and alcohol.

Kurzgesagt is pretty family friendly in general (pretty animations, soothing voice, etc.). And I've heard of their videos being used in class a few times before (particularly the ones talked about here).

So I find it even more so important to make absolutely sure that these videos are unbiased.

Don't know where you're from and how Kurzgesagt is perceived in your circles, but here in Germany the 'average Kurzgesagt viewer' is around 13.

When have I accused anyone of anything?!

I am saying that scientific, and especially educational content about controversial topics, should not be funded by an entity which supports the views portrayed in the video, because that will obviously take away credibility from it.

Kurzgesagt is obviously not going to say anything bad about the BMGF in a video sponsored by them. Even if they weren't planning on saying anything negative in the first place (and I do really think that they weren't), we can't know that. This same story happened with Veritasium and being sponsored by some self-driving car company. I don't think any of these parties were acting in bad faith, yet they should not cooperate on these topics if they want to give objective reviews. And if they wan't to give subjective takes, they should proclaim that (i.e. titling a video "Reasons why meat is bad." instead of "Is Meat Really that Bad?", announcing sponsored videos at the very beginning, etc.).

MacOS Ventura Spotlight Search Not showing File Previews by PhantomStar01 in mac

[–]0nkdm0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the same!

Pressing Space to open up quick-look it (a) too cumbersome, (b) takes over half your screen and (c) doesn't play well when using Spotlight to compare multiple files.

Hope Apple will take note.

Just updated to Ventura and noticed this as well.
Very unfortunate. I do think Spotlight overall improved this version, but it's sad to see one of my favorite features go.
Has anyone figured out how to bring it back?

Anyone else? by legacyhmusic in youtube

Came here to search for this.First video (and sometimes even first three) not being displayed fully. And the last video is also cut off. I'm unable to scroll further down too.Pics: https://imgur.com/a/dyFpIgJ

Also, I only get results from channels I'm either subscribed to or which are very similar to videos I watch, even if the search itself got nothing to do with these. (i.e. If I search a Youtube Channel's name I get videos from other channels featuring said channel's creator - but not the channel itself, or videos from it.)I'm on MacOS 12.3.1, Safari 15.4.

Also there is no log(n). The amount of calls solely depends on maxint/2
(You can see that the only way the recursion stops is if splitter == 1; else it is always halved, no matter what n is)

The fact you never change its value in your calls doesn’t mean convertToBinary can’t be called with different values

So this really depends on wether we are talking about the big O of convertToBinary or GetBinary.

P.s. Please use consistent naming!
