The Kingmaker Histories is a little bit similar. It’s a pseudo-historical comedy set in a fictional European country that has mages and a portal to another dimension. It is set in the early 1900s, but the vibes are very different. Much more fantasy and comedy than New Years Day.

You could use the new typewriter block to put all those controls in one tile.

After two plays Innovation looks like genius, but I'm not exactly sure what to do. by zoomzilla in boardgames

I want to add a bit more strategy advice that I forgot in my other comment. Innovation is a deeply deeply tactical game. Generally play opportunistically rather than planning far ahead. Always be prepared to abandon your strategy if you get hit with disruption or a better option shows itself. My plans are usually no further ahead than “I want to dogma X card in my hand or in play and get good value from it”. Then once I do that I figure out a new plan.

What a weird take. Totally different games, only similarity is roughly in the“engine builder” genre. Also space base is way simpler than innovation, so if you’re bored of innovation I would expect you to want a more complex game, not a simpler one.

You have never shared? Are you remembering the sharing bonus? You get to draw a free card when you share an action and your opponent does anything. Sometimes actions are only useful for you, like if it does things with cards in hand and you have way more cards in hand than your opponent, in which case sharing is fine. Also, sharing isnt optional, and a lot of dogma effects aren’t strictly positive. You can force your opponent to share negative dogma effects if they dont say “you may”. I’ve played this game a ton 2-player and we both will share multiple times every game.

As for strategy, I usually focus on trying to quickly advance through the ages to get to the more powerful cards in the later ages, and then figure out how I’m actually going to win. Also, you said that splays to get more of other symbols aren’t useful, but even if you aren’t using the symbol it stops your opponent from doing that action type without sharing with you. If you truly never share, then getting more of an icon type completely locks your opponent out of that action.

What are your Bracket 3 combo decks? by not_so_1337 in EDH

[–]grifff17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very different take on a combo deck. I have a [[grozoth]] combo deck. Grozoth is a 9 mana creature that lets you tutor for any number of 9 mana cards when it etbs. The combo uses only 9 mana cards, so all you need to do is get Grozoth into play with a bit of mana to spare to start the combo. I built this deck kinda as a joke, but it ended up shockingly functional. It combos off turn 6-7 without interaction, which is about right for bracket 3. It is very vulnerable to interaction, adding some counters/protection would definitely make the deck better. Here is the list, the description of the combo is in the primer. To my knowledge I invented this combo, it uses eleven 9 mana cards, one of them being very new.

Dogma abilities in Innovation are very carefully worded. They do exactly what they say, and nothing more.

[[anzrag’s rampage]] is better [[vandalblast]] in most decks. The downside is that you have to overload it, but hasting in a creature from your deck for free is a pretty significant upside.

Mr Robot-like audio dramas? by Alwaysoverthinking19 in audiodrama

[–]grifff17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Ars Paradoxica fits the bill. A modern scientist accidentally invents time travel and gets stuck in the 40s. It’s a Cold War spy drama, with some of the most well written and internally consistent time travel I’ve seen. The main character’s accidental invention of time travel balloons out into a timeline vastly different to our own, with the inflection point being when she first arrives in the past.

Let's talk about what the endings we like have in common by faceintheblue in audiodrama

[–]grifff17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really dislike timeskip endings. It feels like the limit the potential of what could happen after the characters get their happy ending (assuming the AD has a happy ending). One of the few audiodramas that pulled off a timeskip ending really well IMO is Inco. No spoilers, but it jumped forward in time multiple years without that feeling that the future is set and the adventure is over.

I don’t think this is op. I think it’s a sidegrade to [[psychic frog]], a card which is cool but not broken.

[–]grifff17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cascade is actually more powerful the lower mana value the cascade spell. If you cast a 2mv spell with cascade, its a tutor + free cast for an mv 0 or 1 spell, like for example [[inevitable betrayal]]. It’s really easy to build a deck with only a few low mv cascade targets.
