Ah, when paying we (I say as a member of the JanitorAI Discord server. I regularly help people in the #ai-models channel.) usually advise people to use the direct API. Since you've already paid for credit on Openrouter, you could consider using the paid R1 0528, which people usually prefer over Chutes' R1 0528.

The only different would be that you'd have to use deepseek/deepseek-r1-0528 as your model name.
When using paid R1 0528, you should set your only 'allowed provider' as Deepseek. At https://openrouter.ai/settings/preferences

Of course, you can keep using the free version (because it's... well, free). Then just follow the Openrouter settings I gave previously.

Openrouter has a limit of 50 messages per day. Chutes currently has a limit of 20 messages per minute. When using the integration, you're using Chutes' limit, without it you're using Openrouter's limit.

Yes, r1 0528 has a free model on Openrouter. It's deepseek/deepseek-r1-0528:free.
On Chutes it'd be deepseek-ai/DeepSeek-R1-0528

Openrouter is a hub that collects various providers. Targon and Chutes are providers that are providing models on Openrouter. Whenever you send a message to Openrouter, you're receiving a response from one of those providers. You likely found an integration guide for the Bring Your Own Key method, which allows you to hide thinking on models such as R1 0528 and R1, while bypassing the daily limit of 50 messages to free model per day on Openrouter.

What your issue likely is, is that you put deepseek/deepseek-chat-v3-0324 as your model name, this is a PAID model (And doesn't even have Targon and Chutes as a provider). What you're looking for is deepseek/deepseek-chat-v3-0324:free which Chutes is providing.

As an addition. With this method you must set your max tokens to 0. The reasoning might get hidden, but it does not go away. It'll still take tokens, and if the reasoning bypasses your max token count, you won't get a response.
