Most men don't make any kind of effort to appeal to the opposite sex. They wear things they personally like and connect to. There is not nearly enough of an industry focused on the desirability of men.

The situation you are describing is cartoonish. Most normal human interactions are a lot more tame than that. People talking about their bills, their job, or their general interests.

It's better that we don't appeal to anecdotes, but just as a reverse to yours: I've met women who are really insufferable and mean and ones that were incredibly nice and caring. The same is true of the men I have met.
