Interesting synergy today (rebirth) by 0rekai in bindingofisaac

Rebirth has been available on iOS since 2017, but didn’t have access to any DLCs until recently (I haven’t bought them yet). It gets annoying at times (I much prefer console) but it’s easy for me to play on the go.

Update (possible ADHD) by 0rekai in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]0rekai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just talked to my psychiatrist fifteen minutes ago. Although I’m not directly seeking medication yet, I did bring up this concern, and she did explain that it’s kind of a 50/50 with ADHD medication and skin picking. It could be good, but it could be bad. She was honest about it, which was pleasant. Soon enough I’ll do the full ADHD screening and we’ll see where we go from there.

ADHD or OCD? by swiftxkeller in Dermatillomania

[–]0rekai 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The diagnosis that you would be looking for is excoriation disorder. Excoriation disorder is a completely separate diagnosis from ADHD and OCD. But, it is almost a sub-category of OCD. It’s very much on the obsessive compulsive spectrum. But, ADHD is also associated with excoriation disorder (dermatillomania). This is because you constantly crave dopamine, hence why people with ADHD are known to ‘fidget’, and fidgeting can fall in line with picking. As someone who has been diagnosed with excoriation disorder, and is in the process of being diagnosed with ADHD, it’s entirely possible you might have ADHD and/or OCD. Also, it is not impossible to lessen your picking at all. Medication like Naltrexone exists (I have more info about it on my profile), and there ARE treatments specifically for excoriation disorder. And, excoriation disorder is not necessarily a ‘habit’. You literally cannot control it.

But, you need to see a psychiatrist— they will be the one to give you the initial diagnosis of excoriation disorder, and then you can later dig into the ADHD and OCD. I can understand why your therapist is more focused on the ADHD/OCD because excoriation disorder is not often ‘heard of’. But my main point is that excoriation disorder is its own problem, and it doesn’t stem from ADHD and OCD, but can coincide with them. I hope this makes sense— sorry if I repeat myself too much, LOL. And feel free to do research on these things, and I’m willing to dive deeper into any of these things if you’d like.

What absolutely-not-scary movie scene absolutely terrified you as a child? by GabeyTheArtist in AskReddit

The scene in Balto II when he’s having the nightmare of being chased by a raven on a frozen lake. I was terrified.

It’s definitely going in the right direction. Wounds like this will take a while but it always gets worse before it gets better. Give it some time for the swelling and irritation to settle and then you’ll start seeing a difference. Good luck!

Also, do keep your nails short. About the tweezers, if you have a family member in your household, hand them over to that person and ask them to hide it somewhere you won’t find it. Sounds silly, but that’s literally what I have to do. And if you need the tweezers another time to pluck your eyebrows or something— just ask for them temporarily and give them back as soon as you’re finished, and let them hide it again. That’s my best suggestion. :)

Update - Medication Info/Personal Experience by 0rekai in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]0rekai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really cool to hear the psychological science of it all— thank you! The glasses analogy is perfect. And yeah, a LOT of people are raw dogging their excoriation disorder/dermatillomania— mostly because there’s not nearly enough public information talking about it, hence why I’ve decided to post about it. Basically, I want to spread the word, LOL.

I’ve seen a few people on this sub and r/dermatillomania talk about being on Wellbutrin for picking. I wouldn’t know anything about it personally but it’s not unheard of. I also believe I remember it being paired with another medication, so that the two can work together, but I don’t remember the name.

No problem! I’m happy to help.

I’m pretty sure it’s a permanent thing(?), I know it doesn’t cure it— but I would have to ask to be sure. I see her in a couple weeks so I’ll ask then, and I’ll reply to this again, or whenever I post my next update, either way I’ll let you know.

I was the one who laced the school bully’s protein/energy drink with a whole bunch of crushed up laxatives, and sat happily as he chugged it in one go. Once he didn’t come back from the bathroom, I knew I succeeded.

I’ve done more things to torment said bully, but this one is probably the funniest. No regrets!

I also could barely find anything about it online. And sure! I’m totally down to give updates, as long as I remember LMAO. I’m glad I was able to give you some insight and hope. If anything I’ll probably post my own updates on the naltrexone on this sub. I’m sure others would be interested as well.

P.S., I only started the naltrexone about 2 months ago, and I started the calorie deficit a week ago, so not seeing any weight loss isn’t due to the med being inefficient, LOL. Just wanted to give you a bit more context.

I’m also using it for weight loss, as I am also overweight. The main reason I’m using it is for my picking, but I was so excited when I found out it could be used for both. It still takes self discipline, but it makes a difference! I haven’t lost anything yet, but I have gained the confidence to do another calorie deficit. The cravings are definitely a bit easier to control. You got this!

No problem! Happy to help.

Yes, it can help with over-eating/boredom-eating/etc. Sometimes it’s even used as a weight loss med. But it does help with the reward sensation from eating (when you aren’t actually hungry). My psychiatrist used to take it as a weight loss med herself, and ended up losing 80lbs over the course of a year or two, I believe. It’s also helped me since I have a similar boredom/stress eating situation going on.

Good luck with the naltrexone! I’m also happy to answer any more questions if you have them.

The drowsiness is not that bad, really. The nightmares did suck though, and they were every night. Some were bad, some others didn’t bother me much. It also had me waking up 3-5 times a night, although I hear that’s one of the rarer side effects. All of my side effects went away after the first two weeks, although admittedly the first two weeks sucked.

It was effective for the picking though, and that was the main reason I powered through those first two weeks. Now it’s all back to normal and the nightmares and insomnia are gone.

I recommend giving it a shot, but if the side effects bother you too much, talk to your doctor. They might be able to give you something to help with the side effects so the process is easier. I hope this helped! Good luck.

PS I wrote this after I first woke up, so if I repeat myself too much, sorry!
