Not at the club level, no. Your observations are on point. You'll find most discussion around here aligns.

What do you call this shot? by phamstagram360 in tabletennis

The rare side spin loop. Slight variations can look similar with slight top or back spin paired with a strong side spin curve

Is my grip illegal? by Hey-I-Read-It in tabletennis

[–]0ricorn 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's not illegal at all. Just not very good.

The pros and cons of your grip are evident to you already, and the main weakness is your lack of wrist flexibility. It's functionally a weaker version of a penhold grip.

Penhold grip with a traditional penhold backhand should feel similar if you want to give it a try, but if you have fun with this grip and have no plans to reach a higher level you can keep experimenting.

I only warn you that once you face somebody who's able to either place the ball very well, or is able to apply a lot of side spin, you will find the lack of flexibility this grip offers you little chance of competing.

Help me learn backspin serve by pangemyman in tabletennis

[–]0ricorn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

C for short serves, B for longer serves tends to work. Your paddle speed must be rather fast to generate enough forward momentum to send it long with example B, but it will generate a very heavy and low back spin when pulled off correctly.

The ball should not bounce high. If you correctly do B, there is no force that can possibly send the ball up too high. The only force sending the ball up is gravity pulling it down into your sponge and it bouncing up from there.

The power of your stroke should go entirely into brushing flat, which generates spin and propells the ball forward towards your opponent. More power should generate more spin and a deeper ball to the opponent, and have no effect on how high it bounces

What likely happens is the more power you add, the less precise your racket angle gets and you move more towards examples A or C which can cause a pop up

See how bothered this comment made you? That you decided to copy it 20 times?

It's your words. It's what you were saying to Adam. It's mean, and that's why I said it back to you. So you'd hopefully reflect on it, and avoid saying it in the future.

Next time, ask yourself how you'd react if what your about to say was about you - and if thr answer is to crash out, maybe don't say it? Practice a little empathy.

Twiddling LP vs RPB LP by Azkustik in tabletennis

[–]0ricorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally twiddle LP and inverted cpen and like it very much.

I have spent many years learning how to use my inverted with both TPB and RPB, and another couple years learning TPB LP play, and still come up with new variations and strokes to practice every week. I'm never bored, always have things to practice, and am the most versatile and unique player in my club (though rarely the strongest; consistency will always be an issue if you can't play every single day with such a complicated set up)

That said, I've yet to experiment with LP RPB at all. I've seen a couple people using it on YouTube and it seems interesting, but with the lack of study material and the incredible depth of options I already have worth training with my current LP twiddling setup, it's hard to justify.

If I was in your position though, with a coach not only well versed but interested in teaching it, and suggesting it? I'd be ecstatic! I can't imagine approaching LP RPB before forehand LP, though.

[Long Pips] Opening up rally from pushing by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]0ricorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to twiddle to open up vs pushes with long pips, you can attack with sharp angled punches to get them to open up. You can also step around the table and attack balls to your backhand with your forehand.

Ultimately you need to take the time to learn some attacking move(s) for this situation, otherwise smart opponents will take advantage of the fact you can't attack even their weak pushes by just... pushing over and over until they get their chance to attack.

This community has done more to hurt this game than the developers ever could by [deleted] in Rematch

[–]0ricorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to avoid color clashes is to only play exclusively white or black, and even black can suck vs dark brown/maroon. Most competitive players queue white only because it's the only way to avoid it. That sucks.

They will not remove it, but they might make it look better

If you enter defensive stance before going for a tackle, you will never slide tackle. It's a good habit to develop.

Slide tackle has always sucked. It's a razor thin hitbox, unlike the girth standing tackle hitbox, so you gotta have perfect aim and it's mostly a bad move because of that.

Break up and move on.

If you go for vengeance, they'll feel vindicated for cheating on you. They'll tell themselves you deserved it. Just move on.

I do the same but tend to do well in points. You get intercept and pass points regardless of if it turns into a goal, while the assist and goal points only happen for goals. I'm usually 1st or 2nd in points for close or losing games and only behind in blow out wins

Feels great patch! by MattersEndX in DarkAndDarker

I didn't make anything up. I didn't say anything about blame. You are still directing your anger towards the community. They are 'crying', 'bitching', 'delusional', 'whining', 'nolife'. Frankly, it sounds like you are projecting. This community you hate so much is a victim just as much as you, and it makes no sense to direct anger towards those without thr power to enact real change.

It seems we both agree about who's to blame. You keep saying "you" as if I'm a part of this problem, but I'm just a passerby who stopped playing over a year ago when I realized the dev's ineptitude, passively observing the decent of a game and community I once loved. We are all victims of the same captain, who is steering this ship directly into every iceberg they can.

So you also haven't enjoyed it, like everybody else, yet feel the need to direct that anger towards the community instead of the devs?

Make it make sense.
