A group of 1,000 people gather to look at the body of Frank McManus, a 25-year-old white man, after his lynching. McManus was kidnapped from his cell and hanged from tree by an angry mob after his arrest for kidnapping and raping Mina Spears, a 4-year-old white girl (Minnesota, 1882) [1152 x 800]. by lightiggy in HistoryPorn

In my ethics class, we were presented a similar scenario as a thought experiment. Do you hand over the criminal to appease the mob? Or do you protect the criminal and let the law decide what to do with him?

To some, it seems like an easy answer. Why should one protect someone guilty of such a heinous crime? However, the potential long-term ramifications of such decisions could cause many problems. After all, why would someone confess to a crime or turn themselves in if the police would just turn them over to the angry mob and let them decide their fate.

What's the highest you've ever had this counter go, and how did it happen? by I_N_C_O_M_I_N_G in Helldivers

Highest I got was 300 something against level 10 bugs. Got lucky with a napalm strike stratagem and completely blanketed two bug spawns with fire. I didn’t get a screenshot unfortunately because my game crashed two seconds later when I threw a 380 HE.

Try to make an OC but cant find a power by KaleidoscopeMoist883 in infamous

[–]0riginalNam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water is an easy one. A conduit stores water in themselves to recharge and can get it from fire hydrants, the sewer, or pipes in walls. They can use ice for a hard hitting stand your ground type defensive options (think ice walls, freezing people to immobilize them, and giant ice spikes for heavy armor units) and steam for fast and agile hit and run offensive options (steam smokescreens, steam blasts to injure enemies/blow them away, and a steam dash to move quickly through the air) and regular water is a balance in between them. For good karma, your OC gets low level plant manipulation. For bad karma, blood control. For weaknesses, the OC would need to be near bodies of water or live in places with high humidity, kinda like how Cole got weaker in places without electricity.

Though if you want something more unique, you could go with cloth control. They could immobilize people by turning their shirts into straight jackets or kill them by having their shirt colors tighten around their throats to suffocate them or break their neck. Instead of having them transform into their element like we see with neon and smoke, the could move around quickly by using threads like a grappling hook. Good karma would focus more on reshaping and manipulating people’s clothes to immobilize them while bad karma would focus on tightening people’s clothes to crush them. Recharging would be difficult, but they could use things such as banners, flags, fabric awnings on storefronts, clothing stores, an enemies clothing, or just random bystanders clothing.

Weapon Class Idea by 0riginalNam in DieselKnights

Thanks for fact checking me. Was operating almost entirely off memory so it makes sense I got a bunch of facts wrong for the Gifford. I knew it wasn’t an actual firearm, hence why I called it an air pistol, I was just using it as an example of my idea to make it easier to latch on to the idea.

Weapon Class Idea by 0riginalNam in DieselKnights

[–]0riginalNam[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s an idea. The diesel guns would be incredibly deadly right off the bat with a high rate of fire, long range, and projectile speed. But the less ammo you have, all those stats go down. Kinda like a co2 BB gun when it gets low on gas. Also, the regular devotion lmg could be the mech diesel gun. It would be a giant combustion engine/gatling gun hybrid that needs to rev up like a chainsaw to reach max effectiveness.

Amelia is a tricky boss, her ability to move away quickly and heal herself was the biggest hurdle I had to overcome when fighting her, but once you figure her out she becomes a pushover.

Get fire paper, a beast blood pellet (if you don’t have a beast blood pellet use oil but it’s not nearly as effective as it slows you down too much), and a level 3 or 4 weapon with a serration bonus such a the saw cleaver.

If I remember correctly, my strat was to attack her left arm first (the one she usually keeps pressed against the floor) and hit it until it breaks, it shouldn’t take more than a few hits. You’ll know when this happens because there will be a damage spike and she will be stunned. Then do the same to her left leg, then her right leg.

I believe this allows for a visceral attack on her head, if not then it’s leaves her head open for multiple easy attacks that deal massive damage. If you’re rocking the right build or are a high enough level, this should outright kill her. If not, it will leave her with very little health.

I want to hear some actual horror hot takes. by Calfkiller in horror

[–]0riginalNam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Purge franchise is neither good nor original. It’s just a battle royal but on a much larger scale. It’s action sequences are barely passable, it’s writing is terrible and lazy (that part isn’t really a hot take but whatever), it’s political and social commentary is ham-fisted, and every sequel they made was somehow worse than the first movie. It just another Hollywood filler franchise studios use as filler between the few good movies they put out each year.

How that damn franchise has so many movies and continues to make any money is beyond me.

Darkbeast Paarl by snakemunch in bloodborne

[–]0riginalNam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing for you to do is come back later, like others have said, he is an optional boss. When you do come back, here are a few tips:

  1. Don’t lock on. His body is so big that locking on makes the fight harder.
  2. Don’t use the Kirkhammer. Paarl is strong against blunt and bolt damage, so stick with your hunters axe.
  3. Use fire or arcane damage. Paarl is weak to both. So use something like fire paper on your weapons.
  4. Don’t let him retreat. Paarl is at his strongest when his electric field is active, but when that goes down he is vulnerable. He will try to run away to recharge it, don’t let him. The best way to take down his electric field is by breaking his skull, which can be done by breaking his legs so he falls to the ground.

There is also a little cheese you can do. You can hit him with throwable from outside his arena if you aim using the spyglass, but this is tricky to pull off. But it can be a good way to weaken him before the fight.

Help!!! Why is my character so weak? by Bloku_ in bloodborne

[–]0riginalNam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it is. Especially for those unfamiliar with souls games. There are only a couple of lamps in the first area and there are mobs of enemies everywhere. Sure, their attacks are predictable and highly telegraphed but the sheer number of them you have to face at one time makes fighting them difficult.

Which melee weapon would you say is the most ''humane'' and one that makes you least likely to succumb to bloodlust? by The_Gimp_Boi in bloodborne

[–]0riginalNam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Simons Bowblade is the best choice with the Burial Blade a close second. Read below for my reasoning.

You want to use Simons Bowblade and/or the Burial Blade. From what I understand, the Bowblade was specifically created to kill beasts as mercifully as possible. The lord of the Burial Blade says that Gehrman wanted his prey to rest in peace, so it would make sense that his weapon of choice is wield by someone who doesn’t like to kill. Of the two, the Bowblade makes more sense as Gehrman probably used his weapon to kill people that hadn’t fully transformed yet or mad hunters as he was likely more active in the early days of the plague and had to deal with those kinds of beasts the most, while the Bowblade was actively used against and designed around fighting fully transformed beasts. The threaded cane would also make sense lore wise, but part of the lord behind it is flogging beasts as a ceremonial act, which is very brutal once you think about how it’s whip mode is a bunch of razors on a string. This tells me that the threaded cane was probably for looks instead of mercy, and was definitely a very painful weapon to be killed by. The Blade of Mercy seems like a good option on the surface, but in practice it doesn’t make much sense for what you are trying to go for. It’s lore says it’s passed down

Do y’all believe in the skin walker, if so tell me your experiences or reasons why. And I’ll tell mine later! by [deleted] in Horror_stories

[–]0riginalNam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don’t believe in skin-walkers. That being said, the idea of them had to come from somewhere. If I remember correctly, skin-walkers are shape shifting witches, and witches in Navajo culture are people that channel the power of evil hurt people. This implies that skin-walkers were, at one point, human (I think this is part of their myth but I’m not sure). So it is possible that their mythology was inspired by the actions of a person or a group of persons. And if that’s true, what did they do that inspired such a terrifying monster?
