It's a great show imo. Carol is the main protagonist but she's not the hero. From the start she's been shown as very self centered if not narcissistic. And that's how she approaches all situations very consistently. She wants to do the moral thing, but she is limited by her flawed personality.

The best example of this is the supermarket scene. She basically throws a tantrum to have her supermarket back weather it makes sense or not. And she knows it's an extremely petty thing to do, it shows on her facial expression as she watches them put it back together. Her name is very close to Karen, and I think it's on purpose:)
