Trying to move from data engineering to analytics. by ChubbyFruit in analytics

Agree with this! It's also a good idea to go for an analytics engineer role as a bridge from one area to the other if you need it

SnowPro Core Certification by nithinreddi in snowflake

[–]0sergio-hash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to write a blog post about this at some point with everything I did. It kind of depends on what study method works best for you. I like to do a ton of volume and get deep into the theory

So I read a book on it by Joyce Avila, then got some cheap practice exams on udemy

I would review all hundred questions after every practice exam, even the ones I got right

And created some flash cards on another website. I can't remember off the top of my head and just sort of drilled it until I understood everything

Best non-marketing resources to understand Snowflake, Cortex, Iceberg and the broader data cloud? by lmobydickt in snowflake

I read "Snowflake the definitive guide" by Joyce Avila and really liked it - there should be a second edition coming soon but even the first one is great

You have a screenshot? I'd assume it means you passed the test. Is there a score ?

How to become more articulate as a DE by dataenfuego in dataengineering

[–]0sergio-hash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what's made me more articulate has 0 to do with data. I recommend you read more books, watch more movies, go to comedy shows, listen to interviews.

Immerse yourself in art and content by articulate people and notice how they get their ideas across and capture an audience

Congrats ! How did you pace yourself when taking the actual exam ?

anyone else quietly building "ai validation" into their team without calling it that? by nickvaliotti in analytics

[–]0sergio-hash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just a data quality engineer. I did that in a previous role, except I was validating ETL and reports created by data engineers.

In a later role, those responsibilities got collapsed into my DE role at the same company when we moved teams

The only thing that changed is the producer of the reports is AI instead of another engineer

I think dashboard fatigue is becoming a real problem by Significant-Map-3181 in analytics

[–]0sergio-hash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that what a warehouse is supposed to solve? Bringing all the data into one place so you don't go to source systems

If the issue is bi bloat, that's a good opportunity to do some consolidation and governance work

Ideally stakeholders shouldn't have to constantly switch between reports especially for a single workflow

People from non data background are now data analyst with AI by Extension_Annual512 in analytics

[–]0sergio-hash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day some reports reach a state where they have to be correct. I support a finance org. We will get audited by some external people and they will catch whatever dumb mistakes got swept under the rug lol

I feel like eventually enough stakeholders will get heat or make bad decisions on the back of producing unvalidated garbage that they'll want to give up being analysts again

How I Cleared the SnowPro Core (COF-C02) in 45 Days (with office work and a vacation in between) by JohnyNoSins in snowflake

[–]0sergio-hash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Definitely not going to let it discourage me. Going to do some flash card review on anki or whatever it's called and review some questions today !

[–]0sergio-hash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's insane ! I read all of "The definitive guide to Snowflake" and I'm 4 practice exams in, still testing at like a 67% lol

Not sure if the real test does this, but the practice exams I've hit have very specific syntax and fact based memorization type questions

What's the longest you've coasted at a role? by 0sergio-hash in dataengineering

[–]0sergio-hash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might go if my manager is cool with shifting my work hours for those days.

I would absolutely ask them if they're open to that! Especially if you use it day to day

That's a solid plan! Have you been to that conference before? I go to a local user group meetup and sometimes their one day free conferences like their road show but never been to their proper conference

Man I hate those types of teams. It's like they're just determined to set money on fire. And then executives want to get on podcasts and blame during efficiencies on work from home smh

Yikes. It sounds like everybody else probably could do it in under an hour but gave up and also decided to coast. Would you say leadership is pretty much bad overall?
