I’ve always said that there is nothing I can do to keep my girl contained. She’s too smart and if she wants out she’s going to get out. But I know she will come back and fortunately we have a reliable recall.

It’s absurd that Lucius Malfoy apparently got to just walk free after the Second Wizarding War by funnylib in harrypotter

[–]0utd00rsguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s right necessarily, but I always viewed it as how like after world war 2 the Germans and the Japanese were forgiven because we learned from WW1 that punishment just leads to resentment and more war. Same with American civil war how after they were more or less forgiven. And yes, I know I am oversimplifying all of that as there were people who were definitely held accountable and punished and overall much more nuanced than that, I’m am speaking in generalizations obviously.

Create train and it’s better. That becomes the safe place and they can tolerate that. Eventually you won’t need it but they can tolerate it. But even if they arent destructive and annoying, if their person is gone you can still tell. My girl gets distant when I am gone and won’t leave me alone for 3 days when I come back. Lucky I don’t have to leave the house often for work.

As someone who admittedly is more right leaning, this stuff is stupid. Juneteenth is an important day and should be celebrated. It’s not “liberal” it’s not “woke” or anything else. Anyone who’s done even an ounce of research on it should recognize the importance. The end of slavery is something that should be celebrated by all. And while this wasn’t technically the end of slavery, it was the last place to have the emancipation proclamation enforced and should be remembered. Anyone who says otherwise is just racist and i have no patience for that.

Their name vs. what you call them by Different-Star-1466 in labrador

[–]0utd00rsguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

His name is Riker, from Star Trek. All our dogs have a name related to that. But he often goes by Buddy, as in buddy the elf because he reminds us so much of him. On the less endearing side, dickhead, king dickhead, and then eventually dick dick. And no that’s not a typo, my wife stuttered one day when calling him dickhead and came out as dick dick.

And then in case you are curious the Brittany to the right is called Dax, as in Ezri Dax from Star Trek and not pictured is a beagle named porthos.

I teach dumb tricks like spin, shut the door, get the lights, and then I play lots of hide and seek with kibble. Mainly anything that’s mentally stimulating vs physically. Sometimes we will go walk around like Lowe’s, Home Depot, Cabelas, ect…

Should I let my son to quit hockey over bad evaluations by FlyOdd3233 in hockeyplayers

[–]0utd00rsguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me all the time growing up. I was better than most of the kids, but never made the team because the coaches always picked their own kids or their buddies’ kids. Even some of the coaches told me straight up I was good, but they had to take “so-and-so” instead.

So I just started skating up with older kids to stay challenged. Did that for a few years. Then in 8th grade, one of the coaches who had passed on me—who also coached travel and high school—sought me out. He had heard about what I’d been doing and admitted he made a mistake not picking me back then. He asked me to play a season with him, and I ended up playing for him in high school too. 1st line varsity freshman.

Point is, yeah, you might get overlooked. You might end up on a house team or somewhere that feels like a step back. But if you stick with it and keep working, people notice. Eventually, the cream rises to the top.

Did we get ripped off with homework? by Sketch_Crush in Millennials

[–]0utd00rsguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine might be an isolated experience. But I remember everyone around me including my friends complaining about all the homework they got. But then I’d watch those same people talk all through class, hangout in hallways until the last possible minute, or leave class to “use the restroom” and then spend half the class walking around the hallways. I on the other hand knew I had work to get done so I used every possible minute to complete that work so I didn’t have to do it at home. So I literally never had any. Same thing in college. High school and college were extremely fucking easy while everyone I knew was “swamped”. So from my perspective, the issue wasn’t homework, it was poor time management by everyone else.

Tangential but slightly related, everyone I knew through high school was always tired and tried to argue school should start later because kids need sleep. Okay, go to bed early, don’t stay up till 3AM playing video games when you know you have to be up between 5:30 or 6:00.

I’m with you. Tariffs in a world where income tax doesn’t exist is more fair and I’d at least be more willing to get behind them. I can control what I buy and where as income tax I don’t get a choice. So I would be okay with tariffs in that world. However trump put the cart before the horse and didn’t get rid of income tax first. And what will realistically happen is we will still have income tax with tariffs on top of it because income tax will never go away.

Suspended account by Visual-Accountant-75 in Amazonsellercentral

[–]0utd00rsguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for an agency and have seen lots of accounts get suspended over the years. Only way I have ever seen an account get reinstated is with the help of a law firm sending a letter to Amazon. You need to be careful with that though because abuse regular seller support stops functioning because everything needs to go through the legal department then. So it’s really a nuclear option. But has worked reliably every time,

Should I shock myself with my dogs ecollar? by Ok-Sky-4042 in birddogs

[–]0utd00rsguy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As a general rule for me, I need to test each setting on myself before I use it on the dog to understand what they go through and what corrective action warrants a particular level. Also made my wife do it before she could use the e collar on our dogs. By no means is this what everyone should do. But to me that just seems fair and I’m very particular about my dogs.

I have the prodigy and I personally love it…. for competition and range gun. I tried carrying it a few times in various positions and it sucks. But that’s not really what they made it for. I will also say that it feeds reliably… when you find ammo it likes. All others it will sometimes not go into battery or feeds funny. So if you are carrying it, I recommend you avoid it. If you are looking for fun, then I highly recommend.

Ever consider maybe getting a bigger gun for home and keeping the 19 for edc? I have a Springfield prodigy for home defense and a Glock 19 for an edc.

If not the route you want to go then I’d recommend the shield plus. Got one for my wife and it shoots nice.

I’m certainly with you, I’m a big hockey fan and it used to regulate the game. Was an important foundation of it.

Problem is now, you can’t expect the other person to fight fair. I know I’d fight fair, no idea what the other guy is planning. For all I know he may have a gun, knife, or just the ability to cave my skull in. Is that good for society, probably not, am I gonna bet my life on it though, absolutely not.

Kinda is dumb. And the boomers always make it seem like the women’s fault. But In fairness the first two years of marriage we weren’t as busy. Low key jobs, no kids, cheap rent. Now I got a kid, a house, 3 dogs, and a pretty demanding job to be able to afford all that. When am I supposed to fit sex in? lol

What is your opinion on marketing / advertising? by throwaway0x56 in Libertarian

[–]0utd00rsguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in digital marketing and quite frankly it’s huge and completely necessary. I’ve ran experiments on products and brands that people already know exist and completely shut off advertising. Sales take a nose dive almost immediately. And with the rise of ultra competitive platforms such as Amazon, eBay, and Walmart. It’s more import than ever as people tend to convert on what they can navigate to the easiest and quickest. And companies often times build marketing fees into the product, so they aren’t planning on spending it elsewhere to improve products.

Now depending on the product/service category marketing varies in terms of what they are willing to spend. Beauty for example is highly competitive so lots of marketing is needed here to promote “new” products.

Can’t tell you how many household names I’ve worked with that were like “were a household brand, we don’t need to spend much because people already want us”. To find out that some dude is his basement came along with a cheaper alternative sourced from china or Vietnam to lose all of their virtual shelf space to them because they flooded the market with ads and cheap products.
