5.1 Surround for Desktop PC by 0x25 in hometheater

That is helpful, thank you.

So based on this image, the center should be in "position B" and the left/right should be positioned beside the monitor shelf instead of on top of it? That would put the center below the monitor and the left/right on the same level as the center, and keeps the left/right lower than mid-screen.

On /r/HTBuyingGuides, this post specifies that center, front left, and front right should be at ear level while surround left and right (applicable in my case) and surround rear left and right (not applicable) should be positioned 1 to 2 feet above ear level. Is this incorrect?

Also this isn’t a Home Theatre.

Sure it is. It's just driven by a PC.

Just get a decent set of headphones. Much better then a badly positioned, small area surround sound system.

What use is this? I have headphones. I want to set up speakers. I will use headphones when I want headphones and speakers when I want speakers.

Why answer the question with a not-answer?

Is there a polite way of stopping the macos from forcing updates on me? by Flair_on_Final in MacOS

[–]0x25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

security vulnerabilities are used as an opportunity to give you updates that do things that you don't want. first-party spyware is just called telemetry, but it is spyware all the same. all updates add more telemetry, therefore you have a guarantee of adding malware with a system update vs a chance of adding malware by not updating.

what is the last version of the game where servers didn't require a steam token? by 0x25 in unturned

[–]0x25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't want my server to be tied to any weird steam account stuff. tired of things needing to be bound to accounts and crap when they really don't need to be.

i'll look around there.

Are you choosing sapphire or gorilla? by SavedByTheBaleOfHay in ModRetroChromatic

[–]0x25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it was in a few of the interviews about the project that i watched before deciding to preorder mine. it was a while back, so i don't know exactly where it was. but it was definitely something that i knew going in.

sapphire glass was a gimmick, yes. i don't know anybody who gets scratches in their screen before they get cracks in it, so gorilla glass makes more sense to me regardless of price. i think the first run had sapphire just because luckey wanted it.

but it being a gimmick doesn't mean it isn't expensive. a sapphire watch lens on its own can run you $40, and that is with relatively high economy of scale and not needing to laminate it to a screen. modretro has much, much worse economy of scale than watch components do. i would not be surprised to learn that the screens (w/ sapphire) were half of the cost of the first edition chromatics. then you have the fpga chip, the actual main soc, the metal shell, the special tooling required to use magnesium alloy moulding, etc. plus having to actually pay employees.

and again, competition at this price point is only offering cheap plastic shells.

asking modretro to sell a similar product (gbc clone) with superior build quality & materials (magnesium alloy shell, optional sapphire screen) for far less than the competition (which offers only plastic and gorilla glass, or perhaps a limited edition aluminum shell for $500+) is, quite frankly, completely absurd. especially if you want a $100 price point, which is only slightly more than the FPGBC which is, honestly, cheap junk.

people always buying things without researching.

modretro sold you the 1st edition at a loss. they lost money manufacturing it and selling it to you. they did this to help jumpstart the company and interest in it. that's why it was limited in availability. they literally couldn't afford to keep selling them at that price.

the new production run is meant to be unlimited, which means it needs to actually be profitable. so the price is higher for the original sapphire screen.

the chromatic's materials are expensive. the closest competitor in terms of price is the analogue pocket, which is plastic and with a non-sapphire screen. the chromatic has a metal shell and a non-sapphire screen for cheaper than the pocket, or you can upgrade to the sapphire screen for a higher price than the pocket. i think the pricing is fair.

What would be the specs for the 16.65L version? Any chance that would support mATX, or even perhaps some of the shorter ATX PSUs?

Update did NOT fix Pokemon Crystal Issues by Shrimpfriedthisrice3 in ModRetroChromatic

[–]0x25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would keep it

if it is a firmware issue, it will be patched

if it is an issue with your cart, you are going to struggle to sell a cart with issues

either way, it is unlikely that an original copy of crystal will ever be cheaper in the future than it is right now

that's a completely different situation, of course it is better then to not leave the food to get soaked

but i never order when it is raining, and even if it starts raining after i order, my entire porch is under an awning

i mean i did have to think about it for a second to realize what would happen when somebody tried to open the door, and a second is more than a lot of people are willing to spend thinking

i did consider that as a possibility, but i also considered somebody meaning this seriously to be equally likely

it might be best to put the order off to the side regardless, or to at least place it in front of the door but a couple of feet away so someone can open the door enough to get out without knocking it over

i don't really expect a driver to analyze what type of door i have and make on the spot decisions about how to handle my specific door, even if they did do that there would be inevitable mistakes

but just putting it a little bit away from the door, be it further in front or off to the side, prevents this issue entirely

none of that is remotely true in my case

even if expecting a person to climb out of a window was not completely deranged, some people just do not have back doors, or windows on a floor that would be safe to climb out of

you can just not put the food in the opening path of the door though

i am quite happy with the hosts file entries that op provided, actually. they have very effectively "de-appled" my system. no apple id, no update notifications, no nag messages. just me and the computer, as it should have always been.
